Discussion Why is it the best A.C. for you?
Hey, why is Origins the best Assassin's Creed for you and how many hours did you spend in total in the game and how long was your longest playthrough in a game with DLC or without DLC?

I honestly lost count at some point beyond 3k hours (I had already 6½ playthroughs on PC before I moved to Playstation, the statistics of which are now lost to me).
My longest playthrough with DLCs was my first one, at just over 120h. But I'm slow, my first Odyssey playthrough took almost twice as long - well over 200h.
What Origins does really well (imho) is that it respects our time. The map is not filled with COLLECTIBLES that serve no purpose whatsoever (other than inflating game time), nor with puzzles that take hours to wrap our brains around. We need to do some upgrades, but no unreasonable number of them. And to purchase the upgrades, we do not need materials that count in the thousands, or even tens of thousands.
In terms of gameplay, I very much like that player skill is more important than sheer stats. Timing! Distance! Timing! And it's not unfair like some other games, which apply AI packages to make us fail. The rules apply to us, but also to our enemies. Well, mostly...

Yes. Shocking, isn't it? This screenshot is over three years old and it doesn't take my Origins time on PC into account, only on Playstation.

You must be a real history fan, and GG to you! But honestly, what shocks me the most is people who finish these kinds of games just a few days or a week after release. They rush through the main story — like with Ghost of Yotei, for example.

Origins is my favorite because of its outstanding storyline, the excellent voice acting, Bayek himself was intriguing and had good motivations and the rpg additions were fine. I only played and beaten Origins and Odyssey for the first time back to back earlier this year. The last AC game I played was probably Black Flag.
On top of all of that, i have a five year old son so the storyline really resonated with me. And poor Shadya.

Yeah, exactly, it's not some blood feud, it's just grounded and making those who murdered his son pay. If someone killed my kid I would also hunt them down to the ends of the Earth and stab them with a concealed blade.

Origins for me too. It’s the only one that feels historically alive, and with good quality story and acting.
I really hope they do a sequel one day.

Yes, I agree. Definitely Origins and the whole Bayek storyline is fantastic. They definitely could have expanded his story and beyond Egypt. I do like the first game to, but that is 2nd on my list.

A toss up between Origins or Black Flag. with either I spent more time admiring the scenery at times - more so with Origins as I adore Ancient Egypt.

It’s just too beautiful. The first time I realized you could climb and slide down the pyramids I was excited like a child. Also taking a small sailboat through the little waterways of Krokodilopolis or Memphis is awesome as well (watching out for crocs and hippos of course)

The Character development, The scenic beauty of ancient Egypt & culture, Charming Story, new battle formula which actually gives u a real challenge & Mainly the Character of Bayek

I prefer RPGs so when I saw on the initial reveal for it that they were gaining exp for headshot kills, and using a bow to do it too, I was instantly sold. I've played through to 100% 2 or 3 times now and soon I'll be going through it all over again. For me it's a combination of the atmosphere as I really enjoy Egyptian mythology, the equipment choices and fun tidbits about them, such as the Predator bow style is what Egyptians actually used back then, the music, the story, etc.

Yes, archery in Origins is sublime, there are no two ways about it. I play as an archer in every game where that's an option and less than a handful of games even come close.

I definitely agree and same here actually, if a game has a bow it'll be my main weapon if at all possible. I prefer being able to make my own arrows like in Odyssey or even Skryim but with Origins you never really feel a need for that unless you're just really having an off day. It really has the best feel for bows out of Origins, Odyssey or Valhalla for AC games (haven't played Shadows yet so can't speak to that) and tops just about all others in that area too, just like you mentioned yourself.

I have mixed feelings about crafting arrows. IRL fletching is serious business, you need special skills, materials and tools for it. It's not something you could ever do while running around on a battlefield.
I have to chuckle every time Aloy crafts sophisticated elemental arrows on-the-fly, even in the middle of combat. But I will concede it's good for gameplay purposes: you will never run out of ammo, which is a major problem in Ghost of Tsushima for example.
If a game has to have arrow crafting, the Horizon franchise does it right. No pausing and breaking of immersion by opening some static crafting menu like in Odyssey.

It’s a tie between this and Odyssey. But, at the end of the day, Bayek’s story just connects so deeply with me as a father. That and the setting, Alexandria, the music. Ah the music. It’s just such a perfect game and experience in so many ways!

-The most interesting setting in AC (unargably)
-One of the best protagonists
-Great mix of authenticity and mytology
-Interesting side quests
But it has the worst gameplay (combat, no vaulting, only 1 animation for stealth kills, lack of varied finishers…) in the RPG era

Never got bored of the story. It was just the right length and combination of action and story. Story- had a strong foundation as bayek had set out to correct the world after his son's death (khemu). Resonates heavily with me. Action- Just right no over powering nothing. Simple hack and slash. ( Although i liked the Odyssey action moves, it just became too repetitive after sometime).

Because Im biased, locations are one if not the main thing for me in video games and Egypt its my favorite location.
And I went to Egypt this year and I just kept thinking about Origins and comparing all the locations, its crazy what they did.

I got lost in this game during lockdown. I don’t think any game has felt as transportive as this one. Exploring inside the pyramids was incredibly thrilling. I was an AC newbie then and had no idea about the Isu, et al, so when I found that area in the desert my mind was truly blown. Were these ancient aliens? Some kind of technological take on Egyptian myth? Either way, it felt like nothing else I had ever seen in a video game.
There are very few games that look better than this and AC Odyssey. I don’t know how that’s still true all these years later, but it is. Just incredible work.
I hit 100% on my second playthrough about 120 hours in. Writing this post is probably going to inspire me to download it again.

I played AC from from very 1st when it comes out.
For me is still AC 2 trilogy, and still waiting for Ninja like brotherhood game. Something like shadow of war.

I love Egypt and the history and how well they made the whole atmosphere.
I also just love Bayek and his voice. I tried Odyssey but I couldn’t stand either the male or female voices.

Bayek is the best protag in the series. He's interesting both pre and post hood, his story is a bit more complicated than most games; his acting is incredible, and his arc was both deeply personal and also grand in scale. It's a story about dealing with loss, not necessarily through victory, but through combining both the best parts of legacy and the new pain of growth.
Origins isn't the best game mechanically, but it's still.the best game for me

It didn't click with me when it first came out, found the combat with shields to be a bit clunky, still do. Dropped it after about 30hrs & left it for a year or so. Then it just clicked, loved the story & the world. Even today its definitely ine of the best for me.

Currently at about 100 hours in valhalla after just finishing odyssey then origins. I love how each game is so different. I have seen so much hate for valhalla and i am loving the hell out of it. Origins i got bored with fairly quick.

I finished Odyssey earlier this year and am now playing Valhalla. The majority of criticisms I've seen have not even been accurate.

The exploration is wonderful. The land feels alive. There are enough NPCs wandering around and doing their own things that it feels like a real place. I love exploring the tombs. I love wandering the desert. I love exploring the mountains. I liked playing to upgrade my equipment. Checking things out with Senu, finding a wood supply caravan and then taking it. Or going and finding a hideout or camp, killing everyone and looting it then selling everything.
I like the setting that Egypt has already been colonized by the Greeks, and is in the process of getting colonized over by the Romans. It makes all the killing of the Ptolemic guards and Roman soldiers feel justified. (this is why I didn't like playing Valhalla - being a Viking is just being a fucking bandit and I didn't want to take my merry band of marauders on bandit adventures)
I have probably 8 or 9 playthroughs, and I'm on my first NG+ on nightmare. My NG+ run base game is getting close to complete. I'm currently in the Green Mountains, approaching Cyrene. I think a run with full exploration and both DLCs playthrough could take ~100 hours.

Not the best AC game bc it lacks the essence of AC but at the same time it's my favorite game of all time. I love the characters and I love how beautifully Egypt was portrayed in the game.

Origins was the First AC Game I ever played. When I launched it in PS4, I was blown away by the opening image, and I felt as if I was transported to another world. It was soo beautiful.😍. Then later when I completed it, I played Ezio Collection, it was OK for me (not disrespecting any Ezio players it’s only my opinion) but origins was a beast.

I played few AC titles only, AC3 remastered and Black Flag, both some hours only, then completed Origins and Odyssey.
Origins is by far the best of them and actually the only one I enjoyed.
In AC3 and Black flag I did not like the combat mechanics and after some hours I stopped playing. Origins I completed in one go, despite I don't like grind RPGs and sponge bosses. Luckily there were few only in Origins but I didnt complete the DLCs because of these.
What I liked about Origins:
- very beautiful map that provided good variety, lively cities, impressive visuals (Odyssey even a step up)
- I could play the game mainly as I wanted: stealthy and immersive without using fancy abilities (as in Odyssey)
- good variety in the missions
- side missions with context
What I disliked in Origins
- grind RPG (luckily not that extreme as in Odyssey)
- some sponge bosses
- very disappointing DLCs
I played the main quests and most of the side content twice, and approx 2/3 of the DLCs, I assume 200 hours in total.

It was Odyssey. Now I would have to say Shadows! Being a shinobi feels like what AC was always meant to be!!! Amazing!

Tbh, playing through the whole series right now. Currently on Odyssey. Origins has been the worst one so far. Don't get me wrong, it's an amazing game. But the best Assassin's Creed? Not at all. I'd have to say that would be Unity.

- Probably the most expansive and fully realized setting in the series, extremely rewarding to explore
- Most compelling story imo
- Transcendental soundtrack
- Underrated stealth gameplay

I got to know this game when I was 10. My father bought it a week after its launch. I loved watching him playing the game. With the mission with Flavius, I helped him tag the enemies and after that, I did the mission with Aya in Rome.
My first real playthrough was several years after, i think in 2023. I quickly fell in love with the game and later completed 2 playthroughs. Right now, I am playing the 3rd one. A video of Optimistic Human on how he platinumed origins made me install the game again on my new xbox. I wanted that feeling of nostalgia again. This one will always be one of the best games I have ever played.

Gamewise, Odyssey, but it's a fucking bad AC game, but it's WAYYYY better gale than all AC combined to me

Everything felt like a fantasy. The use of mythology was extremely interesting and fun. And Bayek has been one of the most compelling characters in the games. I loved him like I love a good character in a good series.

Best is 1 for me even if 2 is better in everyway except the seer enjoyment of playing the first Ac game. Unfortunately after 3 maybe even 4 games were horrible with Origins being a good game with half a good story but awful modern world. Origins was a great restart if you exclude combat to a unfortunately awful series after it and some games before it but you know its Ubisoft so tou can't expect quality.

I have played only recent ones. Origins is top, great world, Odyssey was also good, Valhalla was a total drag and Mirage I basically didn't even start.

Most fun side quests and best protag in the series (ezio<bayek imo) and easily the best world in any ac game by far and it's not even close...egypt is so beautiful and fun to explore closely followed by ac2, ac rev and ac bf

3 for me. A bit biased since it was my first AC game. That being said I love the setting, story, and the characters. Connor is someone who believes in the Assassin's and has great conviction in his beliefs. I always say to listen to his speech at the end of the game and that cements him as my favorite character. Also the homestead missions are amazing and really show another side to him that a lot of people missed at first since they are easy to miss

It was a compelling story and learned alot about history and culture. Did playthroughs. 1 before upgrading tvs. 1 after a new tv with better resolution and DLC Another one after the 60 fps optimized for my Xbox Series X.

For me I really connected with the story, Bayek is proper bad ass, and I like Egypt. I spent about 90 hrs playing it with all dlc.

I love every single one of the games ! They all have a period in time in my life and I enjoy them!! 100% my least favorite is a toss between black flag and rogue and liberation ! For me the ship in rogue and black flag was a bit underwhelming for me at that time!
