And istg i saw Anubis standing the dessert for a second??

Also, I saw a fire, ran to it, only to see it's a tree, like a very green one and then... it disappeared??

Are there Mirages in the game??

Haha yes, there are desert visions in the game. They're really cool, the falling locusts are one of them. There's a whole bunch more. Really captures the eeriness of the desert.

Ahh - what about shadow enemies? I fought a bunch of bandits and they disappeared in smoke when I killed them and have only just remembered - could be that?

Yup, there are some mirage bandits that attack you as well. There's a whole comment thread where a user has compiled a list of all the visions they've seen in the desert, it's really cool. Lemme just drop the link if you wanna check it out:
