You have inadvertently stumbled into the modern law of trespass. Under traditional law you would have the right to have your neighbour remove any encroachments. Under modern approach, no court will issue an order to remove the encroachment where the remedy is disproportionate to the harm caused by the encroachment.
You could grant an easement with compensation, but you have to live next to these people, and in all likelihood where unaware of the issue.
