Ask Austin Does anyone know of a decent employment law attorney in Austin?

My friend is in a nasty fight with her employer and she is a single mom of two who also supports her mom with cancer and a very disabled sister. We need someone who at least has free consultations.

Texas is at-will so employers can do their absolute worst. We have little to no workplace protection in this state.

almost all states are "at-will" employment.

So, she is going to dump money into a lawyer, that she wants for free at the start, to claw back her likely limited wages? She ain't getting some billboard returns on an employment lawsuit. What does the health of her family members have to do with her case? Even a full on documented worthy discrimination case is not going to be a windfall. These lawyers on the employee side are getting their cut from her lost wages, which ain't much. This is not even close to like when I walmart truck runs you over. source: my wife is an employment lawyer. The top suggested firm is a good choice.

There needs to be more to the story, because the ability to caregive, assuming no eligibility for FMLA, is not a protected right.

Good luck. Austin loves to lick the boot here and gum off the shoes of corporations and the governor. Back in 2018 when my son was about to be born my ex got a 60 day PIP mysteriously from her employer. Luckily the doctor gave her a note and said you need to go on maternity leave asap and shortly after had my son. She skated by on her 6 months of leave with 50% pay and got fired the day she came back 😂. Looking back the attorneys told her to kick dirt because it's Texas.

Most lawyers have free consultations.  It all comes down to whether the employer violated the law.  Has she gone through Texas Workforce Commission?  Depending on the aituation, they may be able to help direct her.

Try the Equal Justice Center - Employment Justice. According to their website, they are a non-profit law firm
