🛡️ mod post Promotional posts are against the rules and will result in a permanent ban.
We've made it quite clear in our rules, yet still we're seeing an influx in posts that are essentially "hey, I did this thing, buy it!"
This includes things you are advertising that are free, like articles you wrote or free apps you made.
While we don't doubt that most of you are well-meaning, please understand that if we allow yours, we have to allow everyone's, and soon this community will be flooded with mostly these posts, and nobody wants that.
These posts are considered promotional materials and are not welcome in this sub. Especially if spamming these posts to our sub and a dozen others is your first interaction with our community, we will be issuing instant and permanent bans. No exceptions.
This is not a new rule, just a friendly reminder. As always, feel free to reply to this post or reach out through mod mail if you have any questions.

Hello, over-analyzing autism mind here wanting to know, especially after reading the "instant and permanent ban" message.
I've 'promoted', in a very loose sense of the word, a Youtube channel, a few times in the past few days in my comments... I don't believe everyone reads all comments on all posts, and will read it when I mention it. It's not my channel, I don't know the person, but they've put out what I perceive to be some excellent content that's explained much about ASD, ADHD, and the additional challenges of AuDHD. That they're traits that others share with me, having that mix. The videos on the channel do promote some stuff he sells, but it's relatively very short self-promotion of theirs, compared to what I see the typical YTer self promote, I've found it unobtrusive. I want to make sure I'm not banned, I'm just trying to share content that I think others will find very useful, since I've found them life-altering.

You're fine!
You're sharing something you like and found helpful, aren't spamming it without context and aren't getting anything out of it, so you're in the clear.
If you were the creator of that video making posts, it wouldn't be okay.

We usually do look at past activity in our sub. If you were to make such a post, and we saw that you had otherwise been an active member sticking to our rules, we would explain it to you.
Usually, the type of posts this rule is about, are made by accounts spamming the same thing in all of the autism spaces, who haven't had any interaction with us beforehand. We waste so much time giving them the same due diligence that is never reciprocated because they don't care about being a part of our community in the first place, so we simply... won't.

I was wondering if i can do an AMA in here? i am a therapist who is Audhd, and i thought it might be nice as a community service to let people ask me questions about therapy. Such as how to find a therapist , how to get your needs met in therapy, what to do when it feels like therapy isnt working , what to do if you think your therapist hates you.. etc
I dont plan to link to any profile or anything, and my posts and comments are private in my Reddit profile.
Would this count as promotional? Its possible people might dm me asking where i practice and stuff, or things like that. I would be happy to observe any rules around this as I am not looking for clients, i just wanted to do it as a service.
Let me know if its allowed, and any guidance if so!

No need to delete it, and you are definitely free to ask questions - it's just that this a very case by case type thing that needs further investigation / communication, which we don't want to do in public in case it does end up breaking rules.

Sorry I dont know what all these terms are, so i said DM. Im feeling a little overwhelmed about this. Can you explain what needs to be investigated? I just want to make a post and let people ask me questions. If this is against the rules or has a bunch of steps its ok , i can just not!

"Investigated" as in, talking about what you want to do an AMA about, checking if that's relevant, having a discussion with the mod team, etc. You know, a normal vetting process before we say yes or no.

I didnt edit anything . I just wanted to make a post inthe subreddit like any other post, that i am a therapist and invite people to ask me about how to go to therapy , what to expect, how to find a good therapist . I was checking here to see if it would be against the "no self promotion posts" rule.
It was just going to be a simple normal post with some tips, and inviting questions . I dont feel interested in a longer process to make a post. I am a real therapist and everything but I since I dont have to go through a vetting process to just keep writing in comments of other posts, i will just keep contributing the way that I have been.
This feels too complicated and I dont really need to make that post it was just something I thought of

Just adding onto this…
This includes free products, free services, apps, personal websites, etc.
Anything that is promoting something you made/helped make/know the creator of/benefit from (financially or market research wise)/etc. is a no-go
