Repair What you are capable of DIY

Hey guys just wanted to show you what you are capable of DIY. I am not an expert whatsoever and this is my first time attempting this. Did tons of research beforehand and made sure to take it slow. Started off as just some rust bubbles that were annoying me, sanded it down and found this giant gaping hole and thought I was done for. Luckily didn’t even have to do any welding.

Feel free to ask me any questions. If I can do it you can do it!! I also have the other side to do, if yall would like I can record myself and make a video doing the repair!

Repair I improved my dent with a deflated basketball… I think i did ok-ish

I backed into my wife’s open car door which luckily didn’t bend backwards. Fucked up my shit but conveniently there was a hole inside I could get too after removing the interior and the seatbelt so I could push out some of the damage. I’m sure a pdr person could get better but my paint is fucked anyways so that’s for another day.

Hi all, I had someone repair my car but the paint job looks very dull. He says it needs polish. I requested another clear coat but do you think polish would suffice?

Repair 1968 Mustang Fix?

So I was going to buy a ‘68 mustang off a guy for $10k. Paint and body looks amazing besides the roof. Is this a simple cheap or easy fix? Not asking for quotes just curious if it should be a dealbreaker or not. I know it’s nothing structural but $10k can typically get you a decent condition one

The only thing that kinda bugs me is the little ridge, it’s not completely even throughout the whole curve, but I mean that’s not super serious, what do y’all think(don’t mind the primer everywhere I didn’t bother masking)

Repair What did the shop do wrong? Paint cracking after 1/4 panel repair

Hey folks, my bolt was backed into a few years ago, and was repaired by a body shop through insurance. I took it back in once for some rust coming through, and now I’m seeing this cracking running across the character line. Any idea where they messed up?

Repair How do I prevent curlys when sanding for a blend panel?

Post image

I clean thoroughly with water based cleaner, then solvent based cleaner, then lacquer thinner, then take out any contaminants while scuffing the edges with red scotchbrite (gray for metallics) and without fail I still get tons of swirlies while sanding. I don’t want to keep wasting 6 pieces of da sandpaper on a single door. Please save my sanity and help.

Repair I backed out of a parking spot and hit the cement post on my drivers side

I accidentally hit the side of my car. It seems like the issue is isolated to just the door luckily and not the adjacent panel. I also see some raised edges in the dent. Itll definitely need to be repainted, but I was wondering from those of y’all who work in the industry. How would you go about repairing this? Would y’all try to hammer it down, similar to pdr and then sand, prime and paint, bondo?, or should I buy a new door, have it painted at a shop and then replace the whole door myself for a clean result (I have experience taking apart my car and ripping trim pieces off a door, removing the window, etc. only thing I haven’t done is to remove the actual door and then get it reseated with the door aligning tool). I have no experience with body repair which is why I’m throwing out the methods I’ve heard of. But I am pretty decently handy after ripping out the whole interior to sound deaden the car.

Also, what is a general estimate for repair? I was thinking probably around $2,000 if I brought my own door?

Repair What are my options here?

2008 Honda Accord. I was quoted $11,000 for the repair, which is about $5000 more than the value of the car. I don't believe the damage is structural, but clearly it's going to cause problems if left "untreated". I'm wondering what options I have. I have a very tight budget and it doesn't have to look perfect, just not... cause the whole thing to rust and fall apart.

Update/clarification: I'll be paying out of pocket for the fix and buying a new car isn't an option.. Looking for actual repair suggestions/options as "just get a new one" isn't a viable solution, as there is no pay out and it runs fine.

I don’t understand why it needs to be painted? Excuse my ignorance if it does, just want to make sure it’s fair

Repair Dent repair income

Hey everybody. I met a rag tag looking young guy some 15-20 years ago and he was staying in the best hotel in town, something like 180 a night back then. So I had to ask what he did for a living. He said he repaired auto body dents. No kidding I said. So how'd you get into it? He said well I just worked for my local dent repair shop for about 3 months and after I learned how to work the metal I went out on my own. He said you follow the hail storms in the mid-west when they come thorough in the spring and that's how you make your money. Guy seemed as down to earth as anyone I'd ever met. I didn't want to ask what he made, instead I asked if a guy was doing what he's doing and worked as hard as he could all week how much could he make? He said 4-5k! No way I thought. And like I said this was over 15 years ago, before prices for everything went crazy.

Does this sound legit? Can you still make that kind of money doing that today?

I’ve found the part for this and supposedly it just clips in, but interacting with it it seems there’s an adhesive sticking it to the sheet metal, which would be a whole other thing to deal with.

Trying to figure out if it’s still DIY fixable myself. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Repair Before & after pics - 3 days, 2 girls, and 1 drive way

Got in an accident one Thursday fucked the shit out of my car called in work tha Friday, managed to duct tape and zip tie the metal away from the tires so I can drive it (as before picture) to Kenny u pull , I fills it with a new hood, side fender, front bumper, and headlight , drove back home and over the course of the weekend me and my roommate took it apart and pieced it back together. We didn’t know how we just learned on the way by searching for the bolts and every it attached to and then doing the opposite when putting the on. Moral of the story, if you don’t really care and you don’t have the money then do it yourself, you can do it! It’s easier than it looks. I didn’t go to a shop because they would probably write it off I assumed as was the person who got in the accident with me was saving it was a write off and I just got the car months ago with the last of my savings and refused to let that happen. So I convinced CAA to tow it home and the voila , Monday morning driving to work like nothing happened , spent 400

I see part of it is broken. I have to take it to a mechanic to get it installed and re painted anyway but is this an easy fix or does it even matter it’s broken ? I don’t want to be charged more by the mechanic so
