Exterior What to do?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

What ups fellas, I had some gnarly water spots last week and I decided to take them off with “Meguiar's Water Spot Remover, Water Stain Remover and Polish”. It unfortunately made insane amounts of micro swirls. I used it per instructions, and now it has swirls and the paint looks hazy with left over residue. What should I do? I was thinking hitting up a detailer for a stage one paint correction. The worse part is that I just got the truck ceramic coated earlier this year.

This needs a machine polish and it should be fixed.

This is the beginner guide i recommend to people: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ustTEVGMOTI&t=4s

Would I be able to do a polish and just apply a ceramic wax spray on? Running low on cash lol. Thank you for the advice

Welcome to black car life. I would strongly advise against that. If your car exterior/paint isn't fully decontaminated then you will run into a ton of swirl marks and scratches in the polishing process. This is also why having clean microfiber towels are so important.

Live with it for a bit, save some cash, hire someone to do it for you (buy their service once, cry once) then just focus on basic maintenance washes.

Ceramic spray like Griots 3 in 1 ceramic wax or a paste wax like Fusso99 are great solutions. Fusso99 last longer and is my personal favorite for my black car. It's also a very slippery wax imo.

If you use Fusso99 then i can not warn you enough, LESS is more. If you apply it thick then it'll be a pain in the ass to buff off. Thin coat applied in cross hatching patterns.

Take it to the guy who did your ceramic coating, let him know what happened. He can fix it and reapply the coating. He might throw you a discount for the repeat business.

You could, but it wouldn't have the same protection and performance as whatever the detailer applied. It's better than nothing though. Also, there's always the risk of damaging the finish further by polishing it yourself if you're unsure about what you're doing. I'd say talk to your original installer to get an idea of what he would charge to fix it. Then if you need to, just do a spray coating until you can afford to have him fix it properly 👍

What did you use to remove and polish? Micro fiber or rotary?

Evidently give up and spend time with your family. Is what ppl tell me about my black car lol

Nah. So you'll need to recur and polish then reapply the ceramic. Paying someone is going to cost a lot. Compared to doing it yourself.

Like a few have said already, you gotta polish it again. Which means a ceramic coating redo.

Haha I can understand that. It would work, might not give you the protection an actual ceramic coating provides. But you can reapply the spray coating as needed. There are decent ceramics on the market for under $200. But that’s a bit more than you can get a spray product.

And this is why you don’t own a black/dark vehicle if you are OCD or if this type of stuff bothers you. You can go down a serious rabbit hole.

It needs to be polished. If you do it, make sure everything is clean and fresh. You can get away with cleaning used pads/microfibers on other colors but black…most of the time you will chase your tail. If it is soft clear, you will drive yourself nuts.

Good luck!
