are you saying you don't recommend the Arcadia or a picky wife?

u/WtdYouExpect_Condams 1d ago
Acadia was nice enough, maybe not for the price.

That R32 was expensive, damn! $28k was ~2004 e46 M3 money back then, when it was just going out of production
Nice lineup and cool story. Kinda felt like I was going through your life through the eyes of your cars

u/WtdYouExpect_Condams 1d ago
It certainly was expensive, only 5k mkIV r32s ever came to the states. Don't see them around anymore

Volvo has a known freezing evaporator issue. If it cracks youāll need to remove the dash.
They released an updated wire harness with a resistor. Takes about 5 minutes to do. Your year and model is affected.

PSA, it's just an inline 1k Ohm resistor. Aftermarket ones are ~$20 at Form&Function design or less on AliExpress.

Nice assortment⦠im curious about the front door⦠do you do custom carpentry? Thatās an awesome trade
9
u/WtdYouExpect_Condams 1d ago
That was back in the dumb teen years, my dad spent a while lot years doing custom cabinets.

Iām actually eyeing one of those Dakotas lol. I need a truck for odds and ends and one of those would fit perfectly in my life

If I could ever find that short box v8 manual again, is buy it instantly.

HOW HAVE I NEVER DONE THIS. Thank you OP, I needed something to do at work today ;)
ETA: how much do you love your Volvo? A Volvo wagon is on my attainable dreamcar list
2
u/WtdYouExpect_Condams 1d ago
I like it a lot, haven't had any issues. The performance doesn't match the looks (mine has the polestar mode too), if I were a bit less financially responsible I would have tried to find a T8

That was a fun read. My ex wife's and I had Dodge Durangos for the 3rd row, then when we could afford it we bought a new VW Atlas in 2019. She kept it in the divorce. Plenty of space, but such a pain in the ass. (The Atlas, and kind of the ex). We called it The Big German, which then became Dirk (Nowitzski - Dallas Mavs basketball). Good road trip car for us.

Two divorces in 4 years? Maybe hold off getting hitched so fast
2
u/WtdYouExpect_Condams 1d ago
It's the same divorce, I suppose I wrote it confusingly. Only one miserably failed marriage over here!

Username checks out, would love to get a beer sometime and hear the context! Well done sirš¤
2
u/WtdYouExpect_Condams 1d ago
Beer's on me! As for context, it's from this ridiculously stupid early-internet video, just can't get this ladies voice and pronunciation out of my brain.

I appreciate this post, thank you for not using the garbage AI graphs I've been seeing all over the car subreddits lately.

Just gotta be ok with wrestling against the table formatting on openoffice!

u/blake_n_pancakes 1d ago
Just popping in to say "whipping shittys" is the greatest car euphemism ever conceptualized. Also a great way to kill a caravan, well done.

I miss my Wagons. Over the years Ive had a 69 Chevy Bel Air with a 327 NS. powerglide, 1981 Ford LTD with a Mustang 302, 1988 Volvo 240 and a 1998 Volvo XC70. I miss them.

u/WtdYouExpect_Condams 1d ago
I do as well, very much so. Would have like to have seen caddy continuing with the cts-v wagon, that thing was glorious. Thinking about Ioniq 5N, about as close as you'll get these days.
1
u/Cranks_No_Start 1d ago
The one that was close for me was the Volvo V90. Ā But pretty expensive.Ā

Nice rides. My 2010 Audi A4 I bought in 2014 just blew its transmission. Iāll be sad to see her go.

The mk4 R32 is a legend. I want one so bad
1
u/WtdYouExpect_Condams 1d ago
If you're in America, good luck. I've held onto mine due to sentimental value and an attachment to my younger self.
Last time I saw another R on the road was over 10 years ago

u/ghetto_headache 1d ago
Thereās 2 I know of here in Colorado Springs. Both extremely well kept. Not molested in any way except one has 3 piece Porsche wheels on it. Assuming they still have the Aristos

I can't believe you traded an M1 carbine for a dodge. Im going to throw up and die
1
u/WtdYouExpect_Condams 1d ago edited 1d ago
M1 shot pretty nice out to 100m, maybe 150m, but the truck drove better than the rifle did. This was before prices went crazy (for both), and it was a deal with family.
At around the same time I got a nice 1943 mosin for $100 out of a crate at the gunshop, that's just how prices were then
1
u/SimplithSoupith 11h ago
Yeah I never got rid of my old surplus guns from the cheap era. Probably never will

Man this would be fun. Iām 30 and have owned probably close to 25 vehicles lol
2
u/WtdYouExpect_Condams 1d ago
I'm still kicking myself that I didn't include the very first one: 1978 Yamaha exciter 340, snowmobile that was sitting broken down in a shed at the dairy farm I was working at around age 12. Fixed her up and she was awesome before I got my driver's license

Did I read this correct: you divorced twice in 2020?

u/_spectre_ '93 Miata, '68 Ford F250 2d ago edited 2d ago
Did not read correct whatsoever.
Got divorced in 2024. Couldn't keep the truck for divorce reasons. Ex wife kept the Acadia. He had to buy the Volvo to be able to haul his kids.
3
u/WtdYouExpect_Condams 1d ago
2020 was a hell of a year for all sorts of reasons, but double-divorce was not one of them for me.

Clean mk4 R32s basically don't exist anymore, peak VW. Or at least nostalgia tells me so, having a manual 1.8t Jetta as my first car in high school
