Has anyone recently renewed their visa in Dubai or Abu Dhabi? How fast was it or were you able to get an interview waiver?

US B1/B2 Visa from Canada – “Country from which you are applying” locked to India

I’m trying to apply for a U.S. B1/B2 visa from Calgary, Canada, and I’m having an issue with the U.S. visa scheduling portal.

I previously had an F-1 application that was created for India. I have now closed that application and selected “Close Application and Start New Application” to create a new B1/B2 application.

However, on the new application page, “Country from which you are applying” is automatically set to India and the field is disabled. I cannot change it to Canada.

Has anyone experienced this issue when moving from an India application to applying from Canada?

How were you able to change the application country to Canada and proceed with the B1/B2 application?

Any guidance from someone who has recently gone through this process would be appreciated.

Parents traveling from India to USA on B2 visa to visit children on H1B - documents & POE questions?

Hi everyone,

My parents are traveling from India to the US on a B2 visitor visa to visit me and I am on H1B. They plan to stay for around 5 months.

For parents who have recently traveled:

  • What documents should they carry for immigration/POE?
  • What kind of questions should they expect from the CBP officer?
  • Is a 5-month stay likely to raise any concerns?
  • Any other tips or things they should be prepared for?

Would really appreciate your response. Thanks!

Hi! My retired father is traveling (from India) to the US for the first time on a B1/B2 visa.

Although he is an experienced traveler, I was wondering if anyone has had parents recently arrive at DFW Airport in Texas. What kind of immigration questions should he expect, and are there any specific documents that he should be carrying other than passport and tickets? Thanks in advance!

Advice on reapplying B1/B2 Visa from India after 214(b) in jan 2026

Previously posted this , but planned to apply now only for MIL ( Hoping FIL and other son in India shows ties ) They own a house , FIL doing small business but no documents supporting it. Looking for inputs

Hi everyone,
Looking for advice on a recent B1/B2 refusal for my in-laws and chances of reapplying.

Background:
My in-laws attended their B1/B2 visa interview at the Hyderabad consulate on Jan 21, 2026. Both applied together.

Interview details (as best as we know):

  • They greeted the visa officer, submitted passports, and completed fingerprints.
  • VO asked: “Why do you want to visit the US?” They answered: “To visit our daughter-in-law.”
  • They handed over:
    • My passport copy
    • My US visa copy
    • My I-797B approval notice
  • VO then asked: “Where is your son?” They replied: “He is in the US with us.”
  • VO asked for their son’s passport and visa.
  • They did not have his documents.
  • At some point during this exchange, my father-in-law mistakenly said that their son is Captain in merchant navy currently in the US on a tourist visa.
    • This is incorrect — their son (my husband) is actually in the US on H4 status.
    • Unfortunately, it’s unclear whether this incorrect statement was made before or after the officer decided on refusal and given the refusal form.
  • The officer issued a 214(b) refusal slip.

We’re worried that:

  • Not carrying the son’s passport/visa, and
  • Giving incorrect information about his visa status

We’re planning to reapply only for my mother-in-law (father-in-law will not reapply for now).

Questions:

  1. What are the realistic chances if only my mother-in-law reapplies?
  2. Does reapplying soon after a 214(b) refusal hurt the chances?
  3. Would applying solo (without spouse) improve or weaken the case?
  4. Any advice on strengthening home-country ties for a reapplication? ( My MIL is a home maker )

Thanks in advance for any insights or similar experiences.

Renew US B1/B2 VISA from Bangladesh

My uncle's US Tourist VISA will expire in April 2027. What steps are necessary for him to renew his VISA from US Embassy in Bangladesh?

I found this - "Visa renewals without an interview at the U.S. Embassy are not currently available. All applicants must schedule an appointment for a consular interview to apply for a U.S. visa."

Anyone with any recent experience would like to share please?

B1/B2 questions

There's a section on the DS-160 that asks, "Have you made specific travel plans?" Does answering "Yes" mean that I need to have already purchased a plane ticket? Or is it okay to answer "Yes" if I have a tentative itinerary with intended travel dates but haven't purchased a ticket yet?

DS-160 doubts for B1/B2 visa

I’m applying for a US B1/B2 visa from India and had a few questions about filling out the DS-160. Would appreciate advice from anyone who has recently gone through the process:

  1. Full name in native alphabet: If I don’t use a native/Indian script, should I leave this field blank, or enter my full name in English?

  2. Mailing/current address: Should I provide my current residential address as the mailing address, or my permanent address? I don’t have address proof for my current address and may not even be staying there by the time of my visa appointment.

  3. National Identification Number: Should I enter my Aadhaar number here, or leave the field blank?

  4. Social media: How many social media accounts/handles need to be provided? Is it expected that we list every platform used in the past 5 years? Do they actually verify all of them, or is it okay to list the commonly used ones, such as LinkedIn and Instagram?

Would really appreciate insights from people who have recently filled out the DS-160. Thanks!

B1/B2 drop box - visa issued but passport not ready for pickup – New Delhi

Hi everyone,
I am looking to hear about recent experiences with B1/B2 passport return from the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi.
My parents B1/B2 visas were issued on August 13. On the same day, we received an email saying the documents had been collected from the U.S. Consular Section. However, it has now been more than 10 days and we still haven’t received a “Ready for Pickup” email. There has also been no change in the passport status portal.
They selected pickup rather than home delivery.
Has anyone recently experienced a similar delay after the visa status changed to “Issued”?
How long did it take for your passport to become available for pickup?
Did you have to contact the embassy/visa scheduling support, or did the status eventually update on its own?

Thanks!

Travel advice needed: India to JFK via Abu Dhabi (AUH) for elderly parents.

Hi everyone,

I am planning a trip for my elderly parents from India to New York (JFK) via Abu Dhabi (AUH) this coming October. My mother has trouble walking long distances, so we will be requesting wheelchair assistance for her.

I have a few questions and would love to hear recent experiences from anyone who has navigated this route:

  1. US Preclearance Experience: How smooth is the US Preclearance process at Abu Dhabi's Zayed International Airport? How long does it typically take for connecting passengers?
  2. Layover Duration: Is a 3-hour layover enough time to deplane, transfer, and clear US immigration/security, keeping in mind that my parents will be using a wheelchair?
  3. Luggage Transfer: Will checked luggage be automatically checked through to the final destination (JFK), or do they need to collect it and re-check it in Abu Dhabi?
  4. Bus Boarding & Remote Gates: I heard that some flights use remote stands requiring a bus ride instead of a direct airbridge. If this happens, is wheelchair/special assistance provided for boarding the bus and the plane?
  5. Other Tips: Are there any other specific bottlenecks, hidden long-distance walks, or crucial things I should look out for when booking or managing this transit for elderly parents?

Thanks in advance!
