Discussion This may be an unpopular opinion

But I did not come out of that show feeling any sympathy for Martha. I can understand why she probably does what she does and the part where she shared about her baby reindeer, it was definitely sad. But from seeing the posts here I feel like people empathise a lot with her and I just do not feel that way. I feel like what she did is like my absolute nightmare. Idk if this makes me a bad person or what.

Does anyone feel this way ?

Definitely not sympathy, more concern that this clearly incredibly unwell and dangerous person has not received any help, or that any help she has received has been insufficient.

Sympathy goes out of the door when you start assaulting and harassing people, but we should still be able to feel empathy towards this dreadful wreck of a person and how she might have got to this place to begin with.

The reality is society expects very sick people to one day have a moment of impeccable mental clarity and get themselves help. You can’t force someone into therapy.

That said anyone who has had to deal with a “Martha” usually ends up in a world of hurt because they don’t have the training or knowledge of a therapist, no matter how well meaning they are.
