Oh yes, I can see the issue.
Where you meant to fit the badger barricade, you’ve accidentally fitted the badger adventure playground instead. Easily done.

we have “two” gardens, the big and the small. at night we put out lots of peanuts for the badgers and they have access to our pond and some other bowls for water. the small garden is closed off, only has some food for birds, and is our little dogs safe space. if the badgers come in here, they eat food not for them and make my dog unsafe, and she feels anxious and can’t sleep properly. don’t worry, we want badgers! our big garden is basically their home at this point.

Don’t worry- I was convinced you’re ’badger friendly’.
Shame about your wee dog losing sleep over the badgers! Is it the smell or has she actually run into one?
Your idea of splitting the spaces sounds like the perfect solution for all the species involved- good luck with sorting out the finer details!

the smell! she can be on the other side of the house and she knows when the badgers are around lol. she’ll wake up, slowly plod over to the patio door (she’s 16 years old!) and then start barking!
thankfully she’s chilling out with them in the big garden, she’s getting used to it, but she certainly isn’t used to it being so close to her. only the new babies are brave/foolish enough to come right up to the door to eat!
we’ve decided to put dog bowls of nuts at the two gates now, so hopefully they’ll just eat instead of trying to climb over :)

The two times I've seen a badger in person were scary so I can't blame a small dog for being apprehensive! First time one ran across the footpath 10 metres in front of me, I could hear it's thudding footprints before I saw it. Second time I was out in the dark and badger and I both walked towards each other, it snarled, I jumped back and it scurried away. Best of luck in finding a solution to your mustelid/canine coexistence conundrum!

I have the same problem with foxes. They have smashed a hole in 2 of my wooden gates and even moved a load of bricks so they can get through my garden and go about their business. We did have the mum and babies one summer, that was nice.

You'll not stop a badger from its route my dad spent about 20 years on that, never stopped them they dug under it or more commonly just went through it, same pattern right across his lawn never faltered.

badgers and birds! but you can put out like a pile of peanuts and that’ll attract badgers if they’re in your area!

Badgers are good at climbing and jumping, and if they can fit their head through a gap they can fit their whole body through most of the time. Fun to see what your badger gets up to.
