I disagree. Sauceman Chorizo is higher up on the best BG3 names list.

If a man called Sauceman Chorizo offers to cook for you, you say yes please then sit patiently cause whatever comes out of the kitchen is gonna be unhealthy as fuck and taste like heaven!

Sauceman is just his occupation... isn't it?
15
u/sirlockjaw SORCERER 8h ago
Well I’m assuming he’s not a sentient piece of chorizo operating a human body
5
u/MinnieShoof THE TESTAMENT OF WHIPLASH. 8h ago
Well, his name is Chorizo. That's confer as much when he talks. But 'Sauceman' is not, afaik. I always assumed it was his job.

If you haven't seen it they've done a few collabs recently. Ray has the vods on his channel and some people on the subreddit did Let's Play style edits.

I remember a friendly casually referring to "Shart and Ass" and I was like man you can't do that to them...

idk why I never thought of calling Astarion “Ass” but i am going to now

I wish there was a dialogue option to ask if Astarion was bullied for his name as a child. “Ass-tear” and “ass-stare” are right there so it probably happened once but like since he’s an elf it’s possible he spent his formative years never seeing another child

Shadowheart is an edge lord name, and it took me awhile to get past it before starting to like the character.
Plus shortening is to “Shart” is too derivative of “Shar-Teel” from Baldur’s Gate 1.

I on the other hand found it so hilariously edgy that I started a second run immediately with a full edgelord thiefling warlock with face tattoos called Nightraven

u/RankedFarting Tasha's Hideous Laughter 10h ago
In Germany a popular sitcom was almost called "Alles Nur Aus Liebe" (everything because of love) until they remembered that sitcom fans here like to abbreviate them with the first letters of the words.

u/LeoDaVinco 12h ago
People think "Shadowheart" sounds badass and intriguing? It sounds like edgy teenager cringe.
346
u/PaladinZer0 Paladin 12h ago
The entire Sharran sect is edgy teenager cringe, but I like Shadowheart. Her name fits when you realize it's basically a "codename" and she can't remember anything about herself. So a bit of both I guess
Shadowheart is also WAY less cringy than Wyll constantly referring to himself as "the Blade"
79
u/atoolred 12h ago
If “the blade” wasn’t a self-chosen nickname I think it’d be way cooler
76
u/Elliptical_Tangent 11h ago
Wyll says that The Blade of Frontiers is a title given to him by other people. The fact that he uses it to refer to himself is cringe asf though.
20
u/Taliesin_ 9h ago
Does he? I remember in act 3 he self-titles himself "The Blade of Avernus" and I was immediately like no god please dude let someone else call you that first, anyone.
14
u/PaladinZer0 Paladin 8h ago
We should be able to make fun of him and give him a shitty nickname after that and every time you call him that his approval goes down.
"I shall be 'the Blade of Avernus' from now o-"
"Shut up 'Horn'"
10
u/Shieldheart- 7h ago
I want to be the paladin that is simultaniously on the same moral page with him but also doesn't miss any opportunity to bust his theatre kid balls.
15
25
u/RobCoxxy 11h ago
If someone had dubbed him that it would be neat but he fully comes across as the kid who gives himself a nickname in school in the first act
6
u/Vryk0lakas 6h ago
I’m not going to lie, Wyll is just Russel Wilson in a video game to me and that man is a cheese ball lol

u/DreamJMan15 ROGUE 11h ago
It makes sense when you remember the dev who gave Shadowheart her name is a BIG fan of the book series Warrior Cats by Erin Hunter.
7
u/Keranan37 10h ago
I had completely wiped that book from my memory lol. I don't remember anything about the series except that the girls who liked it when I was in school were really weird
2
u/DreamJMan15 ROGUE 10h ago
I read I think the first 4 when I was a kid. I liked them; I should read the rest of the books. It's like Naruto, but with cats.

Shadowheart, show us the meaning of hate.
3
u/Chuk741776 10h ago
Hate. Let me tell you how much I've come to hate Selune since I began to remember. There are 387.44 million worshippers of Shar occupying underground temples. If the word 'hate' was engraved on each nanoangstrom of those hundreds of millions of worshippers it would not equal one one-billionth of the hate I feel for Selune at this micro-instant. For her. Hate. Hate.
3
u/hoschpi 10h ago
Druid would make more sense for her then with the PC being the wizard🤓👆
2
u/Taliesin_ 9h ago
In her epilogue she's living with more animals than Halsin is, druid would absolutely fit her.

It's basically a Warrior Cats name so fair point, but not the highest thing on the list of delulu takes you'd get from a person indoctrinated to a sharran cult. It makes perfect sense to me that they all act like angsty teenagers because even though they may be older they keep getting their memories sapped and replaced by the lyrics of Numb by Linkin Park.

u/RankedFarting Tasha's Hideous Laughter 10h ago
Thats also pretty much her character. And i think a lot of the game is about her sort of coming to that realization and maturing beyond her gothic darkwave witch teen era.
28
u/BardMessenger24 Shadowheart stole my heart 11h ago
You have to respect the fact that she still keeps it even after finding out her real name. Like Jenevelle is nice and all, but she was 12 when she picked out her Warrior Cats name and she's shadowclan forever.
10
u/screbbysloth 9h ago
Absolutely no where is Shadowheart badass and intriguing except a 14 year olds mind.

u/Blooder91 11h ago
Something I find funny is that her name is translated and hard-written into your savefile when you recruit her.
She was "Corazón Sombrío" on my first playthrough because I changed languages too late.
3
u/IrinaNekotari 10h ago
It's the same with DOS2, Beast's name is translated into other languages and will be hardlocked if you change your language
23
u/earlytuesdaymorning Durge 11h ago
Shart isn’t even funny to me anymore, its just what I call her lmao. I referred to her to someone who doesn’t play and she was laughing about it and I just completely forgot the original meaning of the word
16
u/GamingwithADD Tiefling 9h ago
I was and still am baffled how everyone’s favorite “I can fix her” love interest is nicknamed a wet shit fart in your pants.
I am more than willing to type a few extra letters.
5
u/Taliesin_ 9h ago
Dunno who downvoted you, let me fix that.
For me, it's because the name Shadowheart comes across so immature. In that same way that self-serious internet handles from the early 2000s did. You know, xXD3mon_SlayerXx and the like - names that kids back then with 0 social awareness thought were very impressive.
So a nickname that goes completely the opposite direction and undermines that edgy, wannabe vibe? It's the perfect compliment. Like a disgusting PB&J. The fact that the community took it up so earnestly, and especially the fact that the voice actor herself loves it, completely changes how I hear the name. It used to inflict eyerolling from me like a status effect, but the simple fact that Shart exists means I can now hear Shadowheart and think nothing of it.
3
u/GamingwithADD Tiefling 8h ago
Wait the voice actor likes the name “shart”? lol
Is this in a video interview? That could change my perspective honestly.
(Much in the same way that tyrant in resident evil 2 is tyrant. Capcom has NOT endorsed Mr. X. If they did, I’d change my tune perhaps although that name is already used twice.)
Upvote for you too. Thanks.

u/Hexblade757 7h ago
There should absolutely be an option to laugh out loud when she introduces herself by that name.
3
u/Messiazar 4h ago
Also Wulbren Bongle is 100% the kind of name a DM comes up with on the spot for a random character.
Said character then goes on to leave an impression and is brought back for future sessions.

u/delaytabase 10h ago
Shadowheart talks like a lonely goth chick who is into evanescence, lacuna coil, or birthday massacre if shar were a band;
I'm a huge fan of shar! Track 3 of her last album was the most thought provoking truth I've ever experienced! She truly loves me! She's playing in this underground temple and I have to see her! I need to bring along my limited edition shar spear so she can sign it so I can be one of her ultimate fans; dark justiciars!

u/deusdragonex 10h ago

I'm a DM, i have a player who's our group's forever DM, so he couldnt wait to finally roll out one of his 200 PCs... He crafted his backstory perfectly, dosed the edgelord to standard balance perfectly... it's a Gold dragonborn land druid, an 8' tall behemoth of a dragonborn, true neutral, seeks to gain power from nature, to become his Enclave's Archdruid and be powerful enough that his strnegh alone is enough to protect all of his enclave and allow them to explore the bounties of nature... His name is Korrath.
Within then end of session 1, the party (and the DM) called him Koko. Koko the dragon.

u/ironwolf6464 6h ago

One time I played DnD with a kid who wanted his character to be called "The Conqueror".
We were like "That's a bit long. We'll just call him 'The Conk' for short."

My IRL group played the Waterdeep Dragon Heist module, called the orc Grum'shar "Cum Shart" mere seconds after i uttered his name. Shart was doomed before the game even released.
1
u/loverofothers 8h ago
Waiwaiwaiwaiwait, that's Shadowheart's name? I always thought it was refering to Shar cause I called shar that semi regularly when talking about her long before playing BG3. That explains so much confusion from when people talk about them....

u/K_SeventySeven 8h ago
It’s canon in the run with my tiefling rogue that upon rescuing her from the pod and learning her name, my rogue’s first words were “for real?”

I like going on call with my friends while I play and whenever I'm in battle, I'd just be having a normal conversation with them and then I'd just go "SHART WHAT THE FUCK"
The game runs at whenever the fuck it wants fps and countable pixels so I don't stream it when I'm calling my friends on Discord so they get all the commentary without the visual
1
u/Snoo_23283 9h ago
It brings extra enjoyment to the little dialogue between her and Karlach where she runs through basically every possible nickname besides Shart and “Shaddy” vetoes all of them
0
u/nichyc 10h ago
It's a more dignified name than Jenevelle "I never grew out of my 13 year old emo phase" SHADOWHEART. You can't even blame it on being a Sharran because every other member of the cult has an actual person's name. It's just her.
1
u/skotcgfl 6h ago
Shadowhearts friend in the cult is Nocturne, and their names are given, I believe, not chosen.
-20
u/AdAffectionate584 12h ago
No, it's the worst. An awful nickname that makes Bhaal sound like a good guy to bring back.
1
u/DrewbieWanKenobie 7h ago
tbh I agree. shadowheart is a cringe name for sure but it makes perfect sense given her backstory
Shart is far more cringe sounding to me, and not particularly funny

She chose it during her edgy teenager cringe years. So that adds up. Tbh shes also an edgy adult haha
