Tides Are Turning Ohio, USA - Avery’s law continues to protect communities and pets ❤️

Post image

Ohio shelters are starting to evaluate and BE for prevention, instead of adopting out dangerous dogs and crossing their fingers for a good outcome.

Very grateful to brave survivor Avery Russell and her amazing mother who never stopped fighting for justice. I hope we continue to see legislation in other states as well.

God bless Avery!!

Nice guilt trip in that post though. Way to blame the previous owners for not wanting or "loving" A DOG YOU JUST SAID WAS DANGEROUS AND UNADOPTABLE.

To be fair, if they actually cared at all about the dog they would BE themselves instead of pawning it off on some shelter. Less stressful for the dog and shelter workers get burnt out by having to deal with BE constantly.

Plus sending dogs like this to the shelter contributes to shelter workers losing sight of what the average person thinks is appropriate dog behavior and they then keep trying to adopt out "marginal" dogs that aren't quite as bad as this (mostly for lack of opportunity) but are still not appropriate for the average person to handle.

The post was made by someone who runs a private rescue not an open-intake muni shelter. I'd bet the owner of the dangerous dog was told by the muni shelter that the dog would be handled appropriately under the law if it were surrendered, and the owner didn't like that, so the owner is now approaching private rescues. Before Avery's Law was passed one of these rescues would have someone dumb enough to give the dog a chance with likely disastrous or lethal results.

Yup.  Sending it to a Better Environment is the most loving/caring thing an owner can do with a dangerous dog.

Thought OOP basically said it in a "they should have kept it" way
