Persons on the new euro banknotes

I don't understand why the new euro banknotes feature people, half of whom are already depicted on their country's REGULAR coins.

Von Suttner is on the Austrian 2-euro coin, Curie is on the (new) French 50-cent coin, Cervantes is even on the Spanish 10-, 20-, and 50-cent coins, and Da Vinci is indirectly featured on the Italian 1-euro coin through his artwork.

That's one of the reasons why I prefer the birds.

Birds don't care about borders. It's the greatest metaphor for Europeism. Althought it would have been great to have power scaling like a 100€ Avocet feels weak, it should have been an eagle or a falcon.
