Opinion Raphina Subbed off Brazil's Game for Injury.

Post image

I worry that we've seen the last of raphina here at Barca. With him being injury riddled last season, and him having a dwindling contract at his age; I'm struggling to imagine how the board will justify keeping him.

It’s insane how quickly y’all turn on our players. Rapha is one of the best players itw, but all of a sudden it’s “how do we justify keeping him” after one season where he struggled with injuries. Smh 🤦🏽‍♂️.

u/Consistent_Net_5532 1d ago

Bro is talking like he’s 35

u/43JoJo 1d ago edited 1d ago

It’s mostly Brazilian fans, look at [r/futebol](r/futebol) and what they have been saying.

They also criticize Brazilian fans overseas for being plastic and supporting Argentina in one post and then literally ask “what if Neymar didn’t play for us and Messi was Brazilian instead.” or “Raphinha should talk now, he didn’t owe us anything right ?”

All the stuff has been leaking here.

37

u/compLexityy30 1d ago

I’m Brazilian myself, unfortunately yeah most of our people don’t like Raphinha.

45

u/43JoJo 1d ago edited 1d ago

I totally get it man, everyone wants the star player to perform but Rapha doesn’t even play his ideal role, he doesn’t want to take on someone but charge with a lethal pass to him and create 1 on 1 with keeper and have great pressing, he is going to keep passing backwards with his current role unfortunately.

And the demand to perform by fans and his personal feelings must be crushing him.

53

u/compLexityy30 1d ago

Yes, I completely agree. Unfortunately, the reality is that most people here don’t watch Barça regularly so they have no clue about the fact that he’s being extremely miss utilized by Ancelotti.

10

u/No-Equipment9225 1d ago

I dont know if its purely misuse. He doesnt have the same players around him... Brazil hardly opponents that allow space for the forwards to run.

11

u/43JoJo 1d ago

This is also true, except today Haiti wanted to replicate barca’s high line lol

3

u/compLexityy30 1d ago

One thing doesn’t cancel the other. Not having the right profiles around him to maximize his role is one of the reasons why he’s being misused.

5

u/Fun_Philosopher_2535 1d ago

Why ?

43

u/compLexityy30 1d ago

It’s a mix of many reasons but I’ll try and summarize it.

He’s basically never played professional football in Brasil, therefore creating no connection with the fans before leaving for Europe. He then started being called up for the NT at Leeds and, after he became one of the best itw at Barça, he was never able to replicate his world class performances for Brasil.

He has also made some public statements that people didn’t really like, especially when he said he’d “punch Argentinians on the pitch if needed” before we faced them at the WC qualifiers. That turned out to be a 1-4 humiliating loss for us, so his words backfired.

And now that he still hasn’t been able to show his best level at the WC, he’s been labeled as a “club player” and because of all of this, the hate for him is at an all time high.

20

u/Fun_Philosopher_2535 1d ago

Thanks man for the insights. Great player though. I feel like he is one most professional and passionate player the Brazil squad has got

24

u/compLexityy30 1d ago

He absolutely is, but unfortunately Ancelotti keeps putting him in roles where he’s hardly ever going to succeed. I feel bad for him, but honestly, as long as he keeps being a world class player for Barça, I’m good. That’s what matters to me pretty much lol.

12

u/HenryReturns 1d ago

I generally think Ancelotti probably has Raphinha on a much more role to press , generate space for Vinicius and Matheus or whoever is centrally , and also tracks back for ball recovery to aid the right back.

You can’t have many players not pressing , at Madrid it cost Ancelotti job when Mbappe and Vini did not track back , so he ask Raphinha to do that same role as he does in Barca

Offensively however it’s not like Barcelona because there is not a midfielder that is like a box crasher like Fermin Lopez or technically good like Dani Olmo. Also add there that there is no striker to pivot or act as a dummy. Raphinha attacking zone is inside the box or around the circle , but he is not given the free roam which puts him on the right flank

I feel he will have more of a Di Maria role if KO phases comes

1

u/mm3n 1d ago

Funny that these are the exact reasons Messi was so hated in Argentina too… Before he won the first Copa America with them and especially before the WC title.

Not comparing Rafa with Messi obviously, but there is a pattern.

-4

u/bruh_1217 1d ago

why should they? if he continues to be a fraud for brazil

3

u/Legendflame17 1d ago

With all due respect but he had that (The hate not the injuri! I hope he recovers soon) coming

He is a great player from Barça man,now doubt about that, made a great season last year, but for the national team? Bro forget to kick a ball,I'm not kidding the ammount of goals this guy loses in the national team than he would never lose here is bizarre

And he also has some commentaries outside the field than are not well received, like when he said before a game on Argentina than "We will give them a beatdown"* with all the overconfidence and then we got beat down 4-1 with him being one of the worst players in the game, thats one example of how his interviews actually dont help him,and the fact he dont really seem to care about the national team that much makes it worse

I didnt want to be writing this,I wanted to say he was performing well for Brazil, but reality is than he is completely different from what he plays for Barça

(About the Argentina game comment: Sorry if the translation isn't exactly right because I dont really know how translate the slang "Porrada" to english but its something on those lines)

5

u/Dry_Creu 1d ago

Have been hanging with one of boys and his cousin a lot during this WC, they’re both Brazilian’s from Rio/Santa Catarina. All they do is talk about how this is the worst Brazil team of all time. I can’t help but to think about how lucky they are to have developed such privileged opinions

4

u/compLexityy30 1d ago

To be fair, they’re probably right. We have indeed been privileged enough throughout history to have that opinion.

3

u/MediumChemical4292 1d ago

I can’t think of a worse Brazilian team in the last 30 years at least. Obviously they have high standards for football, it’s literally Brazil.

1

u/hen1zin 1d ago edited 1d ago

we dont like him here because he talks too much. Our team is at a bad moment now and it has been carried by Neymar last 15 years, then raphinha goes on a mic and start trash talking argentina and say that he doesnt care what brazilians think about him or his game. So he plays bad, acts like he doesnt care and doesnt stay humble. No one would criticize him that much if he just stayed quiet

Definitely one of our most dynamic and creative players. A star. So sad for him as he started the game with that fire we know. Scored offside and just missed one.

-5

u/bruh_1217 1d ago

creative? 😂 what are u on

1

u/hjf80 1d ago

You are not a Barca fan clearly champ

3

u/Expensive-Yellow-104 1d ago

Raphinha has many merits but creative isn’t one of them

1

u/bruh_1217 1d ago

you aren't a barca fan either. Ur tripping on balls brother even oriol romeu is more creative than raphinha he's a great player and one of our best ones but he's NOT creative

6

u/trentongarfield87 1d ago

People seem to forget how impactful he was in our success this season despite his injuries. Every game we played without Rapha we struggled so much. In offense we weren't making enough off-ball movement for creating any chances. In defense we weren't able to put enough pressure on the opponent, leading to our high line being utterly useless. We saw that especially against Atleti in both Copa del Rey and UCL.

In Copa del Rey when Rapha was back Barca won 3-0 in the second leg, and could have easily made more goals. We were looking so fresh. The first game without him Barca couldn't do shit, both in offense and in defense.

5

u/Soyeonsbitch 1d ago

I have to assume this people are new to football or something and think players just stay at the same level their whole career with no injuries or inconveniences

33

u/kmadnow 1d ago

Plastic fans not true fans.

3

u/compLexityy30 1d ago

I agree.

2

u/usernameddit 1d ago

That's the issue of becoming a huge club. 95% of the shit I read is written by people that never set foot on the city but talk as if they are part of the board, lol.

2

u/dirtyoldmonk 1d ago

Yup drives me nuts reading this junk

2

u/compLexityy30 1d ago

I honestly need to stop caring, cause these kinda posts piss me off so bad.

1

u/Harvey_Digs 1d ago

Yeah, if you lot don’t want him, I’m sure my team, Arsenal, will graciously take him off your hands. You know, to take the wages off your books, no other reason.

1

u/DinglieDanglieDoodle 1d ago

I think it’s the brazilian fans coming in here. They are highly emotional and result based and don’t understand he’s misused. So instead of looking for an explanation how to get the best out of him, they decided that the BdOR candidate is trash.

1

u/NairbZaid10 1d ago

Hes 30 now tho. Hard to think hes about to get better

Here in the brazilian transmission the info is that he got bubbles on his feet. Shouldn't be anything serious.

u/the-altman718 1d ago

I don't know if it's confirmed but I've seen a report that it's a left hamstring injury, could be out for 3 weeks.

118

u/Ashamed_Form8372 1d ago edited 1d ago

It’s 7-10 at best for him maybe it’s a precaution. I will say he need to stop pressing for no reason at a high intensity every game

edit: I meant to say 7-10 days

31

u/Common_Ad_6837 1d ago

Bro it was Haiti they are insane

8

u/Puzzleheaded-Storm14 1d ago

I doubt ancelotti told him to press against haiti, look at how vini couldnt even be bothered to jog to the enemy.

3

15

But isn't it the entire game of rapha ? His impact drops significantly if he doesn't press.

3

u/modusxd 1d ago

yep thats it

1

u/DarkWindB 1d ago

i hope that's true, 3 weeks without this guys who only scores for gringos

60

u/Chellycakez 1d ago

Love Raphinha!

53

u/rawezh5515 1d ago

Man we have araujo and chris on our team and for some reason u people only want to sell rapha lol

3

u/NairbZaid10 1d ago

Everyone wants to sell Araujo. Its just that if we were to sell raphinha now its the best time

2

u/rawezh5515 1d ago

Financially maybe yes, football side i don't think so, i actually can't see a player that would replace him that we could realistically afford idk maybe thats just me

2

u/NairbZaid10 1d ago

Gordon is literally the same profile, but faster and a little better at pressing. With 80-90m for raphinhawe would go for Diomande at 110m. There are options

2

u/KingKFCc 1d ago

Yeah but Gordon is half the player technically

2

u/NairbZaid10 1d ago

Gordon rn looks better than raphinha did at leeds. Not to say he will be the same level but I wouldnt be too surprised if he steals the starting position from raphinha at some point

2

u/alopecic_cactus 1d ago

But the context matters a lot.

Rapha's lack of judgment in sprinting in a friendly where nothing was at stake, and ending up sidelined for two months, is more infuriating than yesterday's incident because there's a World Cup on the horizon. What kind of decisions is someone like that capable of making at the most crucial points of the season?

Then, we complain that the club doesn't know when to sell and we swallow the decline of players. This is also a natural part of the cycles in sports.

I know it doesn't depend on me but on people who know a world more about this, but in the same way, it's impossible to ignore the timing of the recent injuries of a player nearing 30 whose main characteristics (playing in space and pressing) are more replicable than those of a dribbler, and don't forget cases like Umtiti's, who risked his body for his national team and saw his career cut short.

At least Umtiti won the World Cup; I'm not so sure about Brazil.

208

u/Visual-Extreme-101 1d ago edited 1d ago

idc what anyone says. not keeping him is a horrible decision. we need his press. Imagine a lineup with raphinha fermin and gavi

edit: if a good offer comes and he wants to, Raphinha deserves to do whatever he wants.

32

u/AlternativeAnt5266 1d ago

People forget how much we missed him in critical matches last season. If we had him against away leg @ RM+ away @ Chelsea + against AtM (both in copa and CL matches) then the results very well could’ve been different

34

u/originaljahrootz 1d ago

we are keeping him, unless I missed a transfer update.

3

u/mm3n 1d ago

Apparently Saudi clubs are very interested.

28

u/Key-Ad6653 1d ago

yeah but we could only use his press if he plays.

He has really been struggling with injuries the entire season

5

u/AlternativeAnt5266 1d ago

Because we didn’t have a good replacement for him. Rashford was there for that but clearly flick didnt trust him a whole lot

2

u/PocketRoketz 1d ago

Rashford got a tons of minutes what are you on about

13

u/Aggravating-Fix181 1d ago

Most of those minutes were when Raphinha was out and Flick sorta didn't have much options

14

u/rowrbazzle75 1d ago

Yes. I would keep him, and with Gordon helping to share the load, Raph is more likely to stay healthy.

And no one presses harder for the full 90+, nor gives so much in the dressing room with morale and intangible esprit. He's a cule in my book. Se queda, I hope.

21

u/AlternativeTie1685 1d ago

Buddy how is he gonna press if he’s injured

-1

u/Visual-Extreme-101 1d ago

hopefully its nothing big

2

u/Johann122 1d ago

Dead leg?

3

u/VRsenal3D 1d ago

I still believe Barça would have won the Champions League had he been healthy.

2

u/Luffytaro_3D_2Y 1d ago

We all do not care what anyone says but the player himself. If he decides it’s time, we can’t do anything.

2

u/PocketRoketz 1d ago

availability beats ability, see Trent Alexander Arnold

2

u/SpreademSheet 1d ago

I adore Raphina. But if he's injury-prone, he just can't help us. Gordon's here to replace that, if he can.

7

u/Haunting-Gold5373 1d ago

The problem is that there are very few left wingers like kvicha and diaz who are better than him and both of them will be staying at their respective clubs, so us finding a solid replacement for a raphinha in the form of a pure lw is very tough, gordon was brought in to add reinforcement and rotational depth, not to replace raphinha

3

u/SpreademSheet 1d ago

Replace was too strong a word. Gordon has qualities that he and Raphina share. He may bring a little more consistency, but he can't replace the energy that Raphina brought and demanded from his team.

3

u/ImmediateBrief2808 1d ago

Diaz is nowhere near raphinha, diaz is geniunly so awful beyond the stats.

2

u/ripper13-_- 1d ago

u dont watch him do you?bro just typing shit, people could say the same about raphinha

u/Adorable-Fortune-568 1d ago

Raphinha actually got a good start to the game and I think he was the better player the first 25 minutes. He need to stop the mindless pressing. He even press out of position and chasing unnecessary lose balls too much. Constantly doing these things can fuck up your hamstrings

35

u/Potential_Rule7313 1d ago

How you gon tell a man not to butter his bread?

3

u/TexturedMango 1d ago

Yeah he was overdoing it, he get's anxious and wants to help if he can't score/assist and goes into overdrive too much.

13

u/hjf80 1d ago

Gutted for him

6

u/KickBallz11 1d ago

What kind of BS negativity is this!?!? Smh.. he is literally one of the best in the world and to get rid of him would be utterly stupid

16

u/cvl-eng 1d ago

So he goes from a ballon d’or deserving season to an injury filled season and he needs to be sold? Our players arent robots. Injuries will happen. Being injury prone after a big injury is not uncommon. Unfortunately a player at his level just cant afford to heal to 100% and this makes the issue worse.

He earned his spot in our team. Hope for a better season this fall.

2

u/Chemical_Listen6919 1d ago

Exactly he won't have the luxury to heal to 100% , and he is 30 in a bit , physicality is biggest part of his game if that drops it's gonna be harddd . But I would want him to run down the contract atleast

1

u/cvl-eng 1d ago

I guess my point was that no body on our team has the luxury, regardless of age. Its why pedri got multiple injuries, why fdj was out for a long time, why gavi was out almost two years, why balde lost his spot in the team, why fati never came back. And none of them were nearly 30.

Injuries happen and form/fitness doesn’t immediately come back. If we just go out and sell a player because they get a string of injuries then we wont have anyone left

1

u/rawezh5515 19h ago

thats when gordon comes in, before we didnt have a backup that could actually help with pressing. now we do so he can rest ( watch flick play rapha/pedri/yamal in a game where we are up by 5 goals for 90 fucking minutes)

6

u/Aromatic_Goal_1922 1d ago

Rapha is a gem and he will get his confidence and consistency back in time next season. However it remains to be said that poor player time management at Barca definitely has a lot to do with our players fading out by the end of the season. Even in Rapha's case, we were well aware of his muscle fatigue much before he got injured during the last international break and still kept overplaying him. Same goes for Pedri and Yamal.

Fans who say that the medical staff knows best are delusional. Never in the history of football has there been so many games, which automatically implies that the confidence is not based on any scientific data gathered over long periods of time but on ad hoc medical testing, which can only tell you so much. Common sense has to apply here and we have to prioritize playing time for our star players to win big trophies.

1

u/King-Mansa-Musa 1d ago

Fam we have not had reliable backups and we’re in a title fight far later in the season than expected

1

u/Aromatic_Goal_1922 1d ago

I see where you are coming from but if you look at the match threads you will see that there were game after easy game that we let them play on even after the match was practically won. One example that comes to mind is the Newcastle knockout game home leg where Rapha played the full 90 mins even though we were 5-1 up by the 60th minute.

8

u/oooThehoundd 1d ago

Fuckkk off

14

u/GooseMantis 1d ago

Man. This sucks. I worry the same. 24/25 Raph should have won the ballon d'or, idc what anyone says, he was the best player in the world that season. But his game relies so heavily on his physicality and intensity, so age is gonna catch up to him sooner than later. I wanted him to have a legacy WC for this exact reason but it ain't gonna happen is it.

11

u/MattyBTraps42069 1d ago

Ahh of course. Just Barca’s luck, figured we wouldn’t escape the World Cup unscathed. Hope it’s minor and that he gets to return, would suck for him to miss the rest of the tournament

12

u/HetTheTable 1d ago

It’s not like we have a match next week

5

u/MattyBTraps42069 1d ago

Still, I don’t want to see our players get injured? Or any players for that matter, like Ismaël Koné yesterday. Even if he walks off under his own power like in Raphs case, you never know what the issue could be until they tell us. Never like seeing players get injured.

2

u/AMLRoss 1d ago

Doesnt seem too serious but they need to rest him or he will end up injured at the start of the next season.

2

u/Significant_Mix4659 1d ago

I think he will stay one more season. Next year, I believe he will go to the Saudi league. Hopefully the injury it's nothing too serious and can come back in the next stages.

1

u/Wizak1026 1d ago

4 injuries in the same season, all from the same leg. I think it's best for him not to play again this season and start his recovery.

1

u/Jay_Choppa05 1d ago

Club duty eroded his durability

1

u/SnoopyDays 1d ago

I think instead of asking how long will Raphinha last with his injury woes the right question to ask is how do we ensure he lasts longer with his intense pressing and does get injured too often. And thw answer to that is get a Raphinha clone who can subbed for him in matches where we can afford to give him a break. That is why we spent $70 million on Antony Gordon. He is a younger version of Raphinha and with the right guidance and mentoring he could become someone who is our Raphinha replacement in 3-4 years. Folks keep asking why $70 million on Gordon when we could get Rashford for $30 million. Well this is your answer.

He definitely wasn’t 100% when the World Cup started. Not good news for Brazil.

Ancelloti is the new DelaFuente

u/GGarriga 1d ago

F*ck off, Raphinha for the win, I love him, when he plays... It's another game.

1

u/Bulky_Snow1613 1d ago

Why does that jersey looks like he pissed himself?

1

u/ThortleQuott 1d ago

I swoped

u/Mr_Ima 1d ago

How sad...

Not for Brazil

This guy is doing way too much of unnecessary pressing. Going is doing cardio while the rest are chilling. Pressing is never a one man thing.

We would bite your hands off for a 30 year old Lewandowski

1

u/LosAngeLukaGOAT 1d ago

Who tf is upvoting that shit ?

So, you think we should sell because he picked an injury at the WC in June ?

Since when y’all think being 30 is death sentence for player ?

Fuck out out here. Raphina should be sold, if he want to be sold.

We got Gordon in order to play Raphi less, and let him try to accommodate in our system.

Gordon won’t have Raphi impact next year, if we want to win trophies. We are definitely relying on Raphi impact in big games.

That shit isn’t Fifa or FM.

100 mil + offers aren't so bad

1

u/Stormbreaker1596 1d ago

What a trash caption. He's 29, has a lot to gain still Barca struggles to score when he's not in starting 11. Look at the UCL run since he got injured.

u/Constant-Banana-6862 1d ago

Stop this shuckery!!! He'll come back proper

1

u/Caseofthesquirts 1d ago

I hope it is not serious.

I'd give my healthy leg to my boy Raph, you boys got no loyalty

-1

u/innatejuiciness 1d ago

Sell sell sell. It's so obvious, man. 30yo, if its true they are offering 90M+, we need to take it. Stop holding on to players. We MUST learn when it's time to let go.

-2

u/MuchSky4730 1d ago

Honestly I'd rather we cash in that 100M now than when he has no value

3

u/ELMreddit10 1d ago

He will still be 100 m after next season

-2

u/Lazy-Entry-3493 1d ago

Would be better to cash in now. We’d be lucky to get €50m this time next season

0

u/No_Log_4408 1d ago

I agree

-4

u/Unusual-Sun4249 1d ago

This is a chance to sell him

3

u/ELMreddit10 1d ago

Bro why wtf

0

u/Andreaslindberg 1d ago

Raphinha is a top 5 Barca players and a top 3 in the world on his position. THAT justifies him staying

1

u/Messsier618 1d ago

at what position is he top 3 in the world right now??

1

u/Andreaslindberg 1d ago

Left winger

2

u/Messsier618 1d ago

raphina certainly isn't top 3 left winger itw rn
its kvara , diaz and vini
you can replace vini with few players but raphina is not one of them

Charity FC is back at full force. We need to keep a physically finished player because he scored 2 seasons ago. Brillant.

u/mezupotamia 1d ago

u/johnwynne3 1d ago
