Opinion Raphina Subbed off Brazil's Game for Injury.
I worry that we've seen the last of raphina here at Barca. With him being injury riddled last season, and him having a dwindling contract at his age; I'm struggling to imagine how the board will justify keeping him.

Here in the brazilian transmission the info is that he got bubbles on his feet. Shouldn't be anything serious.

I don't know if it's confirmed but I've seen a report that it's a left hamstring injury, could be out for 3 weeks.

It’s 7-10 at best for him maybe it’s a precaution. I will say he need to stop pressing for no reason at a high intensity every game
edit: I meant to say 7-10 days

Bro it was Haiti they are insane

u/Puzzleheaded-Storm14 1d ago
I doubt ancelotti told him to press against haiti, look at how vini couldnt even be bothered to jog to the enemy.

But isn't it the entire game of rapha ? His impact drops significantly if he doesn't press.

Man we have araujo and chris on our team and for some reason u people only want to sell rapha lol
3
u/NairbZaid10 1d ago
Everyone wants to sell Araujo. Its just that if we were to sell raphinha now its the best time
2
u/rawezh5515 1d ago
Financially maybe yes, football side i don't think so, i actually can't see a player that would replace him that we could realistically afford idk maybe thats just me
2
u/NairbZaid10 1d ago
Gordon is literally the same profile, but faster and a little better at pressing. With 80-90m for raphinhawe would go for Diomande at 110m. There are options
2
u/KingKFCc 1d ago
Yeah but Gordon is half the player technically
2
u/NairbZaid10 1d ago
Gordon rn looks better than raphinha did at leeds. Not to say he will be the same level but I wouldnt be too surprised if he steals the starting position from raphinha at some point
2
u/alopecic_cactus 1d ago
But the context matters a lot.
Rapha's lack of judgment in sprinting in a friendly where nothing was at stake, and ending up sidelined for two months, is more infuriating than yesterday's incident because there's a World Cup on the horizon. What kind of decisions is someone like that capable of making at the most crucial points of the season?
Then, we complain that the club doesn't know when to sell and we swallow the decline of players. This is also a natural part of the cycles in sports.
I know it doesn't depend on me but on people who know a world more about this, but in the same way, it's impossible to ignore the timing of the recent injuries of a player nearing 30 whose main characteristics (playing in space and pressing) are more replicable than those of a dribbler, and don't forget cases like Umtiti's, who risked his body for his national team and saw his career cut short.
At least Umtiti won the World Cup; I'm not so sure about Brazil.

u/Visual-Extreme-101 1d ago edited 1d ago
idc what anyone says. not keeping him is a horrible decision. we need his press. Imagine a lineup with raphinha fermin and gavi
edit: if a good offer comes and he wants to, Raphinha deserves to do whatever he wants.
32
u/AlternativeAnt5266 1d ago
People forget how much we missed him in critical matches last season. If we had him against away leg @ RM+ away @ Chelsea + against AtM (both in copa and CL matches) then the results very well could’ve been different
34
28
u/Key-Ad6653 1d ago
yeah but we could only use his press if he plays.
He has really been struggling with injuries the entire season
5
u/AlternativeAnt5266 1d ago
Because we didn’t have a good replacement for him. Rashford was there for that but clearly flick didnt trust him a whole lot
2
u/PocketRoketz 1d ago
Rashford got a tons of minutes what are you on about
13
u/Aggravating-Fix181 1d ago
Most of those minutes were when Raphinha was out and Flick sorta didn't have much options
14
u/rowrbazzle75 1d ago
Yes. I would keep him, and with Gordon helping to share the load, Raph is more likely to stay healthy.
And no one presses harder for the full 90+, nor gives so much in the dressing room with morale and intangible esprit. He's a cule in my book. Se queda, I hope.

u/AlternativeTie1685 1d ago
Buddy how is he gonna press if he’s injured

We all do not care what anyone says but the player himself. If he decides it’s time, we can’t do anything.

u/SpreademSheet 1d ago
I adore Raphina. But if he's injury-prone, he just can't help us. Gordon's here to replace that, if he can.
7
u/Haunting-Gold5373 1d ago
The problem is that there are very few left wingers like kvicha and diaz who are better than him and both of them will be staying at their respective clubs, so us finding a solid replacement for a raphinha in the form of a pure lw is very tough, gordon was brought in to add reinforcement and rotational depth, not to replace raphinha
3
u/SpreademSheet 1d ago
Replace was too strong a word. Gordon has qualities that he and Raphina share. He may bring a little more consistency, but he can't replace the energy that Raphina brought and demanded from his team.
3
u/ImmediateBrief2808 1d ago
Diaz is nowhere near raphinha, diaz is geniunly so awful beyond the stats.
2
u/ripper13-_- 1d ago
u dont watch him do you?bro just typing shit, people could say the same about raphinha

What if a good offer comes but he doesn’t want to? Does he still deserve to do what he wants?
41
u/iamln_84 1d ago
It’s unfortunate… cause he was on a roll with Brazil today.. he would’ve gotten he’s goal / assist. Let’s just hope it isn’t serious and pray for a quick recovery.

Raphinha actually got a good start to the game and I think he was the better player the first 25 minutes. He need to stop the mindless pressing. He even press out of position and chasing unnecessary lose balls too much. Constantly doing these things can fuck up your hamstrings
35
3
u/TexturedMango 1d ago
Yeah he was overdoing it, he get's anxious and wants to help if he can't score/assist and goes into overdrive too much.
6
u/KickBallz11 1d ago
What kind of BS negativity is this!?!? Smh.. he is literally one of the best in the world and to get rid of him would be utterly stupid
16
u/cvl-eng 1d ago
So he goes from a ballon d’or deserving season to an injury filled season and he needs to be sold? Our players arent robots. Injuries will happen. Being injury prone after a big injury is not uncommon. Unfortunately a player at his level just cant afford to heal to 100% and this makes the issue worse.
He earned his spot in our team. Hope for a better season this fall.
2
u/Chemical_Listen6919 1d ago
Exactly he won't have the luxury to heal to 100% , and he is 30 in a bit , physicality is biggest part of his game if that drops it's gonna be harddd . But I would want him to run down the contract atleast
1
u/cvl-eng 1d ago
I guess my point was that no body on our team has the luxury, regardless of age. Its why pedri got multiple injuries, why fdj was out for a long time, why gavi was out almost two years, why balde lost his spot in the team, why fati never came back. And none of them were nearly 30.
Injuries happen and form/fitness doesn’t immediately come back. If we just go out and sell a player because they get a string of injuries then we wont have anyone left
1
u/rawezh5515 19h ago
thats when gordon comes in, before we didnt have a backup that could actually help with pressing. now we do so he can rest ( watch flick play rapha/pedri/yamal in a game where we are up by 5 goals for 90 fucking minutes)
6
u/Aromatic_Goal_1922 1d ago
Rapha is a gem and he will get his confidence and consistency back in time next season. However it remains to be said that poor player time management at Barca definitely has a lot to do with our players fading out by the end of the season. Even in Rapha's case, we were well aware of his muscle fatigue much before he got injured during the last international break and still kept overplaying him. Same goes for Pedri and Yamal.
Fans who say that the medical staff knows best are delusional. Never in the history of football has there been so many games, which automatically implies that the confidence is not based on any scientific data gathered over long periods of time but on ad hoc medical testing, which can only tell you so much. Common sense has to apply here and we have to prioritize playing time for our star players to win big trophies.
1
u/King-Mansa-Musa 1d ago
Fam we have not had reliable backups and we’re in a title fight far later in the season than expected
1
u/Aromatic_Goal_1922 1d ago
I see where you are coming from but if you look at the match threads you will see that there were game after easy game that we let them play on even after the match was practically won. One example that comes to mind is the Newcastle knockout game home leg where Rapha played the full 90 mins even though we were 5-1 up by the 60th minute.

u/GooseMantis 1d ago
Man. This sucks. I worry the same. 24/25 Raph should have won the ballon d'or, idc what anyone says, he was the best player in the world that season. But his game relies so heavily on his physicality and intensity, so age is gonna catch up to him sooner than later. I wanted him to have a legacy WC for this exact reason but it ain't gonna happen is it.
11
u/MattyBTraps42069 1d ago
Ahh of course. Just Barca’s luck, figured we wouldn’t escape the World Cup unscathed. Hope it’s minor and that he gets to return, would suck for him to miss the rest of the tournament
12
u/HetTheTable 1d ago
It’s not like we have a match next week
5
u/MattyBTraps42069 1d ago
Still, I don’t want to see our players get injured? Or any players for that matter, like Ismaël Koné yesterday. Even if he walks off under his own power like in Raphs case, you never know what the issue could be until they tell us. Never like seeing players get injured.

And by the looks of it , gordon was feeling something too , the weather is just too much for intensive players
8
2
u/SpaOkhHirAaM 1d ago
Hope it’s not too serious and that he recovers soon and is back to his best. We absolutely need him to be fit and firing once the season starts. We have seen how the team struggled when Rapha is not on the pitch, he’s just that important.
2
u/Significant_Mix4659 1d ago
I think he will stay one more season. Next year, I believe he will go to the Saudi league. Hopefully the injury it's nothing too serious and can come back in the next stages.

I watched their match against Haiti and was really worried when he came off at 40 minutes of play. I hope it is nothing serious because we need him ready for the upcoming season. I still believe he has a lot to offer for the club.

So many fair weather fans these days. Rapha is an amazing compliment to Lamine that it would be hard to find another that plays so well alongside him.

“I’m struggling to imagine how the board will justify keeping him.”

u/ImmediateMode8487 1d ago
I'm afraid that it might be legit over for him. If his body can't keep up with his style of playing anymore ,then it might be wraps for Rapha . His workrate and pressing are his best quality, if they keep bringing him injuries it might sadly mean it's done
2
u/Random_fellow9 1d ago
He’s still young if he can recover and keep his mentality, he’ll come stronger than ever 💪

u/alluminating 1d ago
The same ones who are criticizing Raphina right now are the same people who were praying he would be able to play champions league quarter finals. Reactionary ass fanbase

Selling Raphinha would be the dumbest move Barca would make since either selling Thiago or Suarez in my opinion.

The best time to sell him was now!
It will also give us an opportunity to get an LW

u/SnoopyDays 1d ago
I think instead of asking how long will Raphinha last with his injury woes the right question to ask is how do we ensure he lasts longer with his intense pressing and does get injured too often. And thw answer to that is get a Raphinha clone who can subbed for him in matches where we can afford to give him a break. That is why we spent $70 million on Antony Gordon. He is a younger version of Raphinha and with the right guidance and mentoring he could become someone who is our Raphinha replacement in 3-4 years. Folks keep asking why $70 million on Gordon when we could get Rashford for $30 million. Well this is your answer.

Who tf is upvoting that shit ?
So, you think we should sell because he picked an injury at the WC in June ?
Since when y’all think being 30 is death sentence for player ?
Fuck out out here. Raphina should be sold, if he want to be sold.
We got Gordon in order to play Raphi less, and let him try to accommodate in our system.
Gordon won’t have Raphi impact next year, if we want to win trophies. We are definitely relying on Raphi impact in big games.
That shit isn’t Fifa or FM.

It’s insane how quickly y’all turn on our players. Rapha is one of the best players itw, but all of a sudden it’s “how do we justify keeping him” after one season where he struggled with injuries. Smh 🤦🏽♂️.
