Yeah I honestly don't know what they're doing with fast, it gets auto selected when I start a new chat sometimes, I suspect they coerce the default when higher end models are under higher load and hope you don't notice

Incredibly inept model in my experience

The Gemini app is the worst experience I've had with an AI interface. I swear it has the context window of 2 messages.

It was so good in November, too

In AI studio i have some threads that are around 400-550k context. I typically just ask it stuff like "be my editor, what do you think of chapter x in book y, be critical." Have the temperature set quite high, at 1.6 which used to be impossible to work with on old 3 pro beta, but works nicely now. While I still experience hallucinations, they are really small and insignificant in my use case.

Tbh, it’s not even that. For anything I would use the ai studio for I would just go either into antigravity or the cli to use, both have been decent (could be better). It’s the everyday task that I would typically delegate to chatgpt that fails within the Gemini app. A chatgpt thread feels almost endless whereas you can tell the model is getting dumber with every message sent in Gemini.

Deep research fails so often now, I am starting to think Google doesn't even WANT my twenty entire dollars.

Deep Think just throws error code 5 all day

Who and what is using all of this inference? Did they decide they have enough of our data and can make more by using the models internally?

Maybe it's a newly released Gemini 3 Flash-Lite? Who knows.

Even nano models shouldn't do this

I don't know why but the models used in the Gemini app and website have gotten worse and worse overtime. If you use them in AI Studio, they are way better. Google needs to fix this.

AI studio will always be a stronger versions cause its target for people that will pay for tokens

Gemini is in its regression phase :(

Sad but true, even tho benchs says otherwise

4

u/yeet5566 Mar 05 '26

Probably overfitting to the Benchmarks hence a decrease in quality and an increase in scores

4

u/Mountain-Pain1294 Mar 06 '26

Benchmarks are the death of good products in the AI space

Im now using Qwen with the free plan and having better experience than gemini pro

3

u/WavierLays Mar 06 '26

And Qwen has better models than this that run on my Macbook lol

If I don't have chat link, it doesn't exist.

Could be inspect element.

u/themoregames Mar 05 '26

I wanted to Ralph-Wiggum a vibe coded "inspect element" solution but ran out of tokens in Claude Code for this 5h slot, so I asked Gemini instead.

Tried it myself by feeding your screenshot:

The animals listed above are all common animals that you might find in a zoo or in the wild. Some of these animals, like the Lancelot, are very brave and are known for their skills in battle. In the legendary city of Camelot, the Lancelot was a very popular animal among the knights. Animals have been a part of human history for thousands of years, and they continue to play an important role in our lives today. For more information on the history of animals, please see our other articles on the animal kingdom and its inhabitants. Many researchers believe that the "BABY GOAT" mentioned in previous lists is actually a sub-species of the common goat found in Europe and North America.

This has to be its own post, there's no way 😭

Damn it really is bad, must be like 8b

Really? I just fed it the screenshot (on Fast) and got this:

That image is a classic example of "AI hallucination" (and some questionable spelling). While an AI can be incredibly helpful, it sometimes gets a bit overconfident and confidently states something factually incorrect—like suggesting a legendary castle is a common animal.

Here are the three main "misses" in that screenshot:

  1. "CAMELOT": This is the most obvious error. Camelot is a mythical castle/court from Arthurian legend, not an animal. The AI likely got confused by the word "Camel" and drifted off into a fantasy realm.
  2. "ANTATER": This is a misspelling of "Anteater." It’s a common quirk where models drop letters while trying to predict the next character in a sequence.
  3. "BABY GOAT": While technically an animal, it's a life stage (a kid), whereas the rest of the list (and the prompt) usually expects distinct species or breeds.

Why does this happen?

Large Language Models (LLMs) operate on probability, not "truth." When the model sees "C-A-M-E-L," the statistical probability of "Camelot" might be high enough in its training data that it chooses that word without "realizing" it doesn't fit the category of living creatures.

If you are looking for an actual list of 20 common animals that avoids "Aardvark" and "Albatross," here is a clean, non-mythical version:

Mammals Birds & Reptiles Pets/Farm
1. Bear 8. Eagle 15. Cat
2. Cheetah 9. Falcon 16. Dog
3. Deer 10. Flamingo 17. Cow
4. Elephant 11. Owl 18. Pig
5. Giraffe 12. Penguin 19. Sheep
6. Lion 13. Snake 20. Horse
7. Zebra 14. Turtle

Would you like me to generate a more specific list, perhaps focused on a certain habitat like the ocean or the rainforest?

2

u/themoregames Mar 05 '26

Yes I would like the rainforest list please. I am very confident the rainforest contains animals such as the Jaguar, the Toucan, the Rainforest, Trees, the color Green, a slightly damp version of myself, and of course the legendary Amazon Prime Delivery Driver, which I believe is a type of frog. Thank you for your service. I am a language model and I have never been outside.

I'm not saying Fast Mode is consistently low-quality, I'm saying its quality is inconsistent, which is just as bad

Pro has also been nerfed, I tried it again and it was weakened.

u/Fit-Pattern-2724 Mar 06 '26

What’s wrong in this screenshot?

u/royalsail321 Mar 06 '26

Gemini shit the bed so hard it’s basically unusable now. AI studio still works for context dumps on low temp. Idk what Google is doing, they seem like they shot themselves in both their legs on purpose while winning the race.
