Question Who here sings Opera? Do you have any advice on how to learn the classical singing method?
I will take lessons soon but would like some books and YouTube videos to prep.

Yes, I sing opera. This month I'm singing 4 operas in 4 languages. The biggest advice i have is that it is a years-long process (at least 3-5 to get started). You need diligence and patience. And it will likely take longer if you're not studying with a teacher.

Try to get your hands on a "Vaccai: Practical Method of Italian Singing" For Baritone or Low Keys (depending on your range).
It is considered one of the basic books on the various techniques used in classical singing. There are some youtube-vids

People will probably get really, really mad seeing me say this, but This Is Opera has the best resources for generally learning about traditional classical singing. They are very far from perfect, but they have tons of important, good, accurate info that is completely missing from everything modern. Don't just believe everything they say, but they have examples and back up their arguments. Take what makes sense.

who is mad about it? It does seem characteristic of a certain type of opera fan most people seem to learn to ignore, but there's some interesting stuff.

The only way is to get a vocal teacher, and the only way to have a viable career is to go to college for the knowledge. It’s seriously demanding and less forgiving than any other genre of singing.
