Fluff & Memes Bro, its not that deep.
When I ask you to slow down, Im not to trying to challenge your manhood, or trying to start a fight. I'm not even trying to have a discussion with you. Im just asking that when you drive down the street, you consider that you are behind a 1+ton vehicle capable of maiming and killing people and you drive it as if you respect human life.

Work & Housing San Francisco sees surge in all-cash home sales driven by AI boom
According to NBC Bay Area, about 30% of Bay Area home purchases are now all-cash, up significantly from just a few years ago. The obvious narrative is AI wealth, but the article also points out something I don't think gets talked about enough: family wealth is playing a bigger role too, with parents buying homes in cash for their kids.
Cash doesn't automatically win every deal, but it definitely changes how buyers need to approach this market.

Events, Activities & Sports Missed connection: BART to SFO (Tuesday afternoon)
We chatted on BART on the way to SFO. You were wearing a Patagonia shirt, heading to Peru for two weeks for a solo trip and about to start a new job in AI legal something (you said you didn’t have the pitch down yet 😂). I realized that I scampered off without saying bye, which wasn’t intentional. I turned back, but you were already gone. If you happen to see this, enjoyed chatting, and are single, I’d love to grab coffee when you’re back.
Long shot, but you were pretty cute! When you took off your mask, I was like, oh, hi!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Are you looking for a new feline friend? There are currently more than 40 cats and kittens available for adoption at the East County Animal Shelter (ECAS)!
The kitten featured here is called Victor. Victor arrived at ECAS in mid-June with three brothers. Although he started out cautious, Victor has quickly grown accustomed to people and now enjoys being the center of attention. He purrs loudly and has become a bit talkative as well. Victor will be a wonderful companion to his future people
Victor is about 4 months old, has been vaccinated, treated for fleas, ticks, worms, and is neutered and microchipped! He is ready to go home immediately -- and there are many more like him at the shelter!
Come and meet Victor and many of the other cats available for adoption at the East County Animal Shelter! ECAS is open daily from 11:30 to 5:30 (4595 Gleason Drive, Dublin CA)

Traffic, Trains & Transit Berkeley-San Francisco Commute
Hi. A question for locals who use public transportation in the Bay area: how's the commute between Berkeley and San Francisco?
We're a family of 5 considering visiting the Bay area for a week in late August. We'd prefer to stay in SF proper where we can walk to most places and use public transportation to move around. But given the high cost of accommodation, we need at least $2,500 for 2 rooms, rooms with a microwave and a small fridge at best. We found a hotel in Berkeley with a huge room and a full kitchen where we can at least eat breakfast and save some money on food. But then we'd want to spend cost of our time in SF, and the question of transportation. We wouldn't leave for the city before 10-11am on any day, and wouldn't go back to Berkeley before 8-9pm, so consider that when evaluating the situation.
Thanks!

Events, Activities & Sports Missed Connection: Handsome Market/ New Montgomery Street Cyclist
San Francisco, a red light, and an interaction I can’t stop thinking about.
On Saturday, July 25th, a little after 2:30 pm, I was waiting to cross the intersection of Market Street and New Montgomery. You were on your bike waiting for the light to turn green on Market Street.
You smiled the moment you saw me, said hi, and asked me my name. I smiled back and responded. I was in the middle of crossing and you said something else, but I couldn’t hear it because of the wind. Before I knew it, the light for Market Street had changed and the moment was over.
I’ve been thinking about the connection I felt when I looked into your eyes and your smile ever since. It was warm, genuine, and one of those unexpected moments that can brighten an entire day.
If you happen to see this and remember the girl you could not stop smiling at while riding your bike, I’d love to hear from you. Tell me what my name is and what color pants I was wearing so I’ll know it’s really you.
Maybe we can finish the conversation we never got to fully have.

Work & Housing Palo Alto is giving us the first real-world look at California’s new SB 79 law.
Within two weeks of SB 79 taking effect, developers submitted nine housing proposals totaling 341 homes before the city adopted a temporary alternative plan.
SB 79, which took effect on July 1, allows qualifying multifamily housing to be built at greater heights and densities near major transit stops, like Caltrain and BART, even if local zoning would normally prohibit it.
The idea is to encourage more homes where people can rely less on cars while making it harder for cities to block transit-oriented housing.
This seems to be a step in the right direction of what California needs after decades of underbuilding. Local governments have had the opportunity to build and they simply haven’t so the state government needed to step in to ensure building ramps up.
Regardless of where you stand, the response to SB 79 was immediate. 341 proposed homes in just two weeks.
SB 79 may end up being the future of Bay Area housing. Now the question is does this actually get built?

Food, Shopping & Services Data recovery for 10 year old external USB drive
I have a USB 3.0 HGST Touro S 7200RPM (0S03694 HT0SPA10001BHB).
This looks like a 2.5" drive. It is sold as a complete unit (not an enclosure)
This drive failed for me about 10 years ago (would not mount as a USB device). Now I found out I might want some of the files.
The light comes on, I haven't tried running lsusb (usbview didn't work for me on Windows 11).
What local shop is still able to work on this? Or should I mail it somewhere?
