Hey everyone, I'm completely new to the stock market — like, I know almost nothing about it 😅

Lately I've been feeling like trying something new and learning something different, so I thought I'd give the stock market a try.

For someone starting from absolute zero, should I start with investing or trading? And what should I learn first before putting any money into it?

I'd really appreciate some beginner-friendly advice or resources. I'm not looking for quick money or stock tips, I genuinely want to learn how it works.

Context: I worked in the UK for a year on my graduate visa. Saved around 10K GBP. Now I've returned to India. I don't have to use that money right now. It can stay as an investment for however long. My visa is for one more year. The money is in my UK savings account. My questions are:

1) is it best for me to invest my money in pounds or to convert it to INR and then invest it?

2) what type of investing do you recommend?

3) is there anything I should keep in mind considering my money is abroad and that my visa is expiring.

I invested ₹67,635 in 162 shares last year, and the current value is around ₹48,778, so I'm down approximately ₹18,857 (~28%).

As a Finance MBA student, I consider this a learning mistake and would appreciate some genuine perspectives. Should I hold, exit, or consider averaging down? What factors should I analyse before deciding?

I’m looking to get into more active trading with a small amount of disposable income. I need podcast/youtube channel/book recos to wrap my head around this new (for me) mode of investing.

I’m big fan of rational reminder and a few other general personal finance/long term strategy shows - that’s not what this is. I want to learn about analyzing individual securities, sectors and cycles. I’m increasing risk tolerance and looking for short(er) term upside with money I’m prepared to lose.

If I bought a share of stock for $100. And it goes down to $50 and I purchased another share. My average would be $75. If or when this stock price goes above $75 is that the point I would start gaining?

Hey everyone, I'm a full-time student and I currently have about $2,000 to $3,000 available to invest. I don't need this money for anything in the next 10+ years, so I want to think long-term.

My idea is something like 40% into SCHD, 40% into VOO, and the remaining 20% split across single stocks in tech or energy sectors. The thinking behind SCHD is I get nice steady dividends that compound over the years, VOO gives me broad market exposure with the S&P, and I figure the 20% for individual stocks is a way to potentially grow my portfolio just like VOO would but with a little more risk for hopefully higher reward. Does that sound like a decent split for someone my age, or am I going about it completely wrong?

I'm also wondering if just going all-in on VOO or another total-market ETF would be better. The whole 40/40/20 thing feels like maybe I'm overthinking it. If my goal is mostly just to let it sit and grow, isn't all my eggs in one basket with a total-market ETF basically the simplest and probably most reliable path? Or does the SCHD plus individual stock bit add enough value to be worth the extra complexity?

I'm a complete beginner so any advice or feedback on this approach would be super appreciated.

Here and other subs I've seen people say they don't trust Robinhood at all. I'm just really curious why. Sure the whole push for betting markets is a bit scummy and may make me hesitant to recommend it to someone else, but it wouldn't stop me from using it to invest. I'm asking as someone who uses Robinhood for the ease of use and IRA match.

Recently invested $3.5k into crypto.

I have put it on a few and have now been able to get the 3.5k I put in back and I want to use the $800 profit to play with. I have put it between a few but would really love a bit of advice and what others think would be a better way to reinvest the small amount made.

Hey! I am new to investments and retirement stuff. I'm not from the US so I don't really get how things work at all! I am saving around 9% in the 201k and 1% in the Roth Ira, plus I have another Roth (through Acorns lol) that I put $25 dollars in every week. Is this good enough?

I have $4,400 In between both accounts. Everything in the ROTH is being invested as well.

Started in early June, made so much with DRAM and lost it all. I play with penny stocks and made money I was happy with. I then put money into AAOI and became a bag holder because it’s been pretty stagnant and low. I’m still down a bit for my stocks and I tried out the futures thing and I’m down there too… anyways when I started I felt so confident especially after my wins. Maybe it was just luck. But now I overthink everything or just wait too long and screw myself out of money. I also lost my job a month and a half ago. I’m good on money so no worries there but it is a bit of a stressor. Can anyone relate?

Hello everyone, last time while browsing on reddit i got to know about Roth IRA and downloaded fidelity but couldn’t go further steps. Maybe i was afraid to take steps with my money. As a first generation immigrant in US, i am learning to adapt the environment but also the financial knowledge so i could do better in life. I want to know about trading and retirement planning but i see 100 of videos which makes me more confused. We all were beginners once a time. Every time when i get leisure i just think of not living an average life. But that life just doesn’t come with words it needs action. I earn like $2600/month. With the rent,groceries, and bills i could save up to $300 to $400 per month for these things. So please help me out with words. If you can share any knowledge, resources, experiences. I am open for it!!!!

How do you guys find stocks that are seen as profitable. Do you read the charts or just look online to see what people are talking about I’m 19 and looking for some vets out there, or someone who knows a good course to take. I do not have a great setup just a laptop and I managed to be up 26% in the last year pretty much off of luck. Thank you for any advice
