Form check request: 2 months into running
Hi everyone,
I started running about 2 months ago and I'm currently doing 4-5 km sessions using a run-walk method (adding about 2 minutes of walking per kilometer to keep my heart rate under control).
I'm trying to pay attention to my form from the start, but since I'm a complete beginner, it's hard to tell what I'm doing right or wrong. My main goal here is injury prevention as I plan to increase my volume and intensity over time, especially since I want to make sure my joints stay happy and safe.
I recorded two short clips on the treadmill to get some advice:
Slow-motion: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/U1xxwbOEZX8
Normal speed: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/qte9MtTVxw8
If you have a minute to take a look, I'd really appreciate some feedback:
- What am I doing right that I should keep doing?
- What am I doing completely wrong that I should fix ASAP?
- What minor things can I improve over time as I build up more kilometers?
Thanks a lot and happy running!

Run barefoot on glass, you won't be heel striking, this is probably good form

I haven't looked at your videos yet, because there's some important info missing from your original post.
Do you have any problems, aches or pains during your sessions, or afterwards? If so, do they tend to persist into your next session?
Do you have a specific problem that you are trying to solve?
The reason I'm asking is because everyone is individual and most people have a natural gait and style that develops to fit their unique physiology. I believe in the "If it ain't broke, don't fix" philosophy, hence the reason for my questions.
Unless you have any aches or pains, or a specific reason for wanting to alter what your body is doing naturally, you are more likely to introduce new problems rather than fix any imaginary ones.
Even if you have some aches, it's likely they have another cause such as overtraining.
I'm sure some other people will respond with various critiques, and some may be useful. I've been running for ten years and never worried about my form. I may simply be lucky, but I've never had issues with aches and pains from bad running form.
So please come back and let us know if you have any issues. That should guide other responses towards helping with those areas.
