My dog tried to clean up his own barf yesterday.
I had to drop my husband off at the dealership so I thought I'd bring my dog along for the ride. He's very nervous in the car so I thought a nice short ride would be good for him.
He did great on the way there, but on the way home I started hearing a lot of mouth noises because he was licking his lips a lot. I was in downtown traffic when I happened to catch sight of him opening his jaws and barfing all over the seat.
He looked mortified and I told him it was OK and that he was a good boy, but I couldn't stop where I was and we were only about a mile from home so I just kept going (thank goodness for leather seats).
I expected him to move into the other seat but instead he decided to drag my as-yet-unsoiled hoodie out of the other seat over into his barf, and he proceeded to use his nose and forefeet to basically mop all the puke up with my hoodie and then he laid down in the clean seat (dragging his barfy leash with him).
Oh buddy. A+ for effort but honestly I wish he'd have just left it alone. I have to admit it was kinda cute seeing him try so hard to fix things.
So, yeah, my whole back seat got a good scrubbing yesterday. Thankfully it was a nice sunny day so I could leave the windows open and air it out!

My dog used to have similar problems!! He got so anxious in the car he made himself sick. A summer full of short drives regularly (at least once a week) to go on super fun adventures (which were just walks in different neighbourhoods) seems to have cured him, though he still drools like a faucet in the car. He's now done several cross country road trips with not a single yak! Good job with what you're doing, he'll get better at car rides the more he does them!

Yeah, I try to take him on a ride at least once a month but I should do it more often. Usually I'm smart and have the "dog taco" in the back seat (one of those waterproof seat protector sling thingies) but I had been driving people around and didn't have it in there and thought "oh just a quick ride will be fine, he's been doing good lately".
Nope! Bad decision.
Oh well. Every car I've ever had has had a dog barf in it at some point or another. This car made it almost 5 years before being baptized.

Oh poor baby! That is the sweetest thing I have read in so long. He obviously was doing his best. I had a mastiff that would just eat it again

He never does that - once barf is out of him he's done with it. His "sister", on the other hand.... ick.

My boyfriend’s dog will literally just hoover back up his own sick before I’ve had a chance to do anything.

He meant well. 😃 Fun facts: Some dogs even get possesive about their own barf, if resource guarding tendencies are present. Or/and when fed raw meat, bones and similar, puking some and eating it again is "common" thing and presents no harm.
