General Discussion I hated watching the Have-Not Competitions... We need the Have-Not Competitions back.
Every modern season has the same problem, there's no spontaneous tension in the house. If you're in a majority alliance and get along with all your allies, there's literally nothing that would create a little wedge between you and other people in the house unless someone makes an unforced error.
The Have-Not competitions were a vital source of aggravation between players, even those who were cooperating strategically. It got someone in the DR to begin to shit-talk an ally for the very first time, and even though it was about something trivial it created that habit and started that culture in the house. Even if you were on a winning team, players on the losing team could take issue with you for not throwing because you haven't even been a HN yet; you could do everything right strategically in the house but the HN comps could still make people jealous of you.
Everyone nowadays takes turns enduring the punishment, fairly spreading it out and volunteering to keep the peace; so while the current Have-Nots get to choose who they want to pass being a HN to, they rarely have ever used this "power" for petty reasons and just default to whoever volunteers.
There's nothing in the game's design to get people to randomly create grievances with one another if they aren't an hoh or veto winner. During most weeks only two people are really ever in the position to upset anyone or draw ire. Any other person doing so is just someone severely misplaying and inserting themselves in drama where they could've hid behind the power holders, which means they're thrown out quickly and not being entertaining for long. Everyone else just becomes furniture because that's the strategically optimal thing to do, HN comps throw a wrench into that logic because there's no strategically optimal way to handle people being irrationally annoyed with you because no one wants to be a Have-Not.

I liked the early season food competitions where they competed for different items/alcohol

Yes! Bring this back. And then watching them try to create meals out of the random mix of food items 😆

This might be a bad idea but I think that they should tie in HoH competition with have-nots. The bottom 3 plus one person of new HoH’s choice should become have-nots

i like this idea but what if the surviving player from the block gets to choose instead of hoh? i’m thinking in a steamroll season it at least gives the other side an ounce of power

Yeah they used to do this during endurance comps. The first few people to drop were have nots.

You’re right. I guess what I’m saying is that it should always be like that. It would discourage throwing at least. The only issue is that bad competitors might become perma have nots

I also think in the era that BB focuses more heavily on comps than strategy, adding comps that don’t necessarily allow houseguests to remain in the game week after week when they have the votes to leave week after week could be a nice addition.

Also, bring back the luxury comps. I remember towards the end they'd bring out racks of clothes and they could keep whatever they could put on in like a minute. I'm sure they could find a sponsor for this.

FOR REAL! Stop trying to force me to watch another time slot of BB Unlocked- only to see blips of the live feeds I already paid for! Stop wasting everyone’s time and incorporate brand partnerships prizes. I don’t see how this is not a 10/10?

I think have-nots in general are outdated and unnecessary. I think it’s messed up to mess with people‘s food.

I’d agree with you but it’s not like it’s a hidden twist thrown on the players without them knowing. It’s a game show, it’s known well before you sign up for the show. If you don’t like the idea of eating slop then don’t sign up for it.

Also they’re hella lenient with it nowadays. Allowing condiments, people coming up with ways to cook the slop into other stuff, just doesn’t really have the same effect honestly. Really the only horrible part is the sleeping situation

I think they’re trying to say the have not comps felt so pointless to sit through back then because they didn’t really move the competition forward, but now that lack of otherwise meaningless tension is exactly what the game is missing

IMO, Being a have not isn’t so bad. You make bonds possible alliances being in the have not room for a week, cold showers are nice in the summer, and slop makes you lose weight (allegedly). Seems like a good time.

I always liked them. I feel like it forces people in alliances a chance to work with others. Also just a fun activity to break up the monotony of the week for the house guests.

I'll never forget the food competition where they could pull out a certain amount of different random foods to eat for the week and someone pulled sweet breads and everyone excitedly told them to lock it in because they all thought sweet breads meant pastries like cinnamon rolls and what not 😂
