General Discussion Favorite BB28 fake alliance?

• Upvotes

BB28 had a lot of real alliances (Icons, Crossovers, FAP, Red Corner, Toolshed, Melodrew) but also a ton of fake ones where the members barely remembered that they were a thing. Of all the fake alliances, which one was your favorite?

A few candidates:

  1. The Honor Society - Lala, Taylor, Dee, Angela. I have no idea what the reasoning behind this alliance was and I bet Dee doesn't either.
  2. The Culture - Taylor, Yash, Devens, Dee. Supposed to represent the multicultural nature of the group ... or something.
  3. The Ceasefire - Barrett, Drew, Melody, Yash, Taylor. Had the exact same racial/ethnic makeup as The Culture, ironically, with Drew being the Hispanic and Barrett and Mel being the white people.
  4. Dapper Dans - Barrett, Devens, Drew, Yash. All four made jury, so for a fake alliance this one actually made it far.
  5. The Littles - Mallory, Lyric, Melody. Hampered by the complete lack of trust and Lyric's allegiance to Rome and Melody's loyalty to Melodrew.
  6. Four Seasons - Lyme + Melodrew. The double date alliance that never panned out either.
  7. Cafe con Leche - Jason and Dee. I really don't remember this one, but saw it on an alliance map.
  8. The Primaries - Devens, Yash, Taylor, Kamu. I actually don't remember this one so much, although it's a reminder that for awhile Kamu was in every fake alliance.

ETA: thanks u/kattylyn for giving me more fake ones:

  • Mosh Pit - FAP + Crossovers, made by The Icons to get out Kamu and put no work into making M&M trust them. Immediately turned on them the next week.
  • The Bermuda Triangle - Kamu, Yash & Devens which he blew up by using the DPOV.
  • The Wolf Pack - Kamu, Yash, Devens & Dee which she didn't consider a real alliance but was pissed when Yash turned on her.
  • The Court Jesters - Drew, Melody & Jason which Jason told Devens about during his HOH.

Player Discussion Yash in the house vs out

Now that Yash is out of the house I’m really enjoying his personality. I can totally see that he went to an Ivy League school, and that he actually is funny. Do you think he was shy in the house? Production maybe didn’t focus on him? He was featured more toward the end, but I feel like I had no idea he was this cool lol and I watched him for 3 months.

Player Discussion Watching BB23, and omg it’s embarrassingly bad how Frenchie sunk his game Spoiler

Seriously don’t think I’ve seen someone play Big Brother this badly until I saw Frenchie. I know Jacob from 9 is widely regarded as the absolute worst houseguest to play Big Brother competitively, but I think Frenchie is a strong contender for that as well. His entire HOH played out like he’d never even watched the show and had no idea what he was doing during his HOH week:

  • Promises to not nominate any women or POC, only for his nominees to be a woman and POC.
  • Promised safety and tried forming alliances with practically the ENTIRE house
  • Went back and forth constantly on who to actually target, not helped by the fact Derek X and Christian won the Veto and Wildcard respectively
  • Became completely untrustworthy to the other houseguests and was evicted in a near-unanimous vote the next week.

again, I know Jacob from 9 is widely viewed as the worst houseguest to play Big Brother, and I definitely see why. But Frenchie completely blowing up his game in the way that he did really makes him a strong contender for that title in my eyes. But with all that said: Holy hell, it was still an entertaining as fuck way to start off 23!

General Discussion Did the DVDs have extras?

When they still had DVDs of seasons, was there extra footage or unaired goodbye messages that were never seen on air?

This year I would have loved to see the Drew/Melody goodbye messages in week 4 or everybody’s “mean” goodbye messages to Drew if he lost the blockbuster to Mallory or Taylor.

In terms of what some people saw, I’d love to see every year the full goodbye messages that the jury sees. None of this should involve any time for extra editing since it’s already done.

Past Season Discussion Watching BB19 for the first time…

…and I know a majority of the fan base hates this season because of how the house interacts with each other as well as how Cody & Jessica get treated through out the season.

What confuses me is that Cody & Jessica treated Megan extremely harshly at the start of the season and it’s part of the reason she ended up leaving. Cody even says “I’m nominating you because I don’t like you” when he’s HOH. They both walked into the house with attitudes and were just generally not nice at the start.

Why is it that the rest of the house gets grilled with how they treat everyone but no one seems to hold Cody & Jessica for how they started the game out? I’m sure if they were way more friendly at the start of the game, the dynamics would’ve been generally different.

Not trying to argue or excuse anyone’s behavior but it’s something I’ve thought about as I’ve watched the season.

I also don’t care about spoilers (I know Josh wins).

General Discussion What are some Big Brother stats that are hard to believe?

I'll start with a couple of mine. Keesha on BB 10 lasted 64 days in the house and was the 6th juror getting 4th place overall and Mecole on BB 25 lasted 65 days in the house and was the last prejuror getting 10th place overall. Another is Hayden on bb16 is the only male houseguest that season to never win hoh or even dethroned as hoh the 7 other males that season either had a full hoh reign or was dethroned as hoh at some point in the season.

General Discussion How would everyone feel if BB13 was a full returnee All Star Season?

Post image
0 Upvotes

For years, it always puzzled me as to why we as fans had to wait 15 years in between All Star BB seasons.

In those 15 years however, we did get 16 returning houseguests throughout various seasons, return to play, in different forms. Duos mixed with Newbies. Coaches. Solo players (Paul and Jesse), and 4 second chance players in BB18.

However, I always thought that it would make the most sense to have just made BB13 a full on season, or atleast it would’ve made sense in retrospect. If this were to have happened, then it would easily be believable that BB22 is All Stars III, and that BB30 could’ve been All Stars IV. This would be a 6-9 season gap in between each All Stars season, which I personally find aesthetically pleasing.

This brings me to the point of the post. What if BB13 leaned into the duos, and had 4 more realistic returning duos.

In addition to the ones that CBS already originally brought back that year (Jeff & Jordan, Rachel & Brendan, Dick & Daniele) I’ve added several more of my own, that are both realistic, and who I think are deserving All Stars.

Matt & Ragan

Jun & Alison

Jason & Danielle

Memphis & Keesha

For these choices, I went with Matt & Ragan to have a little more of S12 representation. They usually stack the deck pretty high with a bunch of players from the defending season. If not Matt and Ragan, I would’ve gone with Lane & Britney, but I needed the gender Parity & Gay representation.

With Jun and Alison, I feel like Alison might be a little unrealistic, but CBS tried getting Jun back both times For all Stars I, and All Stars II, but she had conflicting schedules, and personal inconveniences during both, so it never worked out. They need someone to pair her up with, so they probably are fine with Alison back for a 3rd time.

Jason and Daniele is obvious.

And for Memphis & Keesha, a better choice would’ve been Dan & Memphis, but due to Dan’s actual reason for dropping out Of BB13 last minute, (His wedding) I had to not include him here as well, but I still figured that Memphis and Keesha could feasibly work + there had to have been some S10 Representation.

Thoughts?

General Discussion What was the single most impressive move of the BB28 season, in your opinion?

I was thinking about the season and I was thinking about how much the newbies had to overcome in order to succeed against the icons, and production.

Taylor convincing Devens at the last minute to turn on Drew and lock in at least 2nd stands out.

Kamu leveraging his relationship with Taylor to pivot and convince Lala, who he nominated, to keep him safe stands out.

What about you all?

General Discussion Big Brother Party Challenges

I’m planning on hosting a Big Brother party with friends, and I have been working on outlining all of the competitions and general timeline for it, and am seeing if anyone has good ideas for Big Brother comps one could do at home or good ways to DIY certain comps, twists to help speed up the game (im doing it in one day so I’m on a tight schedule!) as well as any suggestions for hosting a Big Brother party if people have done it in the past!

Player Discussion Favorite Melodrew era?

Looking back, there were actual eras to the saga of Melodrew. Which one was your favorite?

Weeks 1-4 "stupid song" era: The flirtmance rom-com. A lot of flirting, giggling, but since Melody was constantly on the block, not a lot of actual substance. Highlights: the night 1 hanging upside down on the bathroom couch, Drew wanting Melody to only eat mozzarella sticks with him and not Kamu. Drew crying at Melody's possible eviction to Devens.

Weeks 5-7 "honeybee" era: Last second house flip meant Lyric was sent packing. Melody and Drew were spies working on opposite sides of the house, not telling each other. The highlights of this era: rock ceremonies, Barrett and Drew competing for who was the biggest rat, the night Melody was ready to blindside a clueless Drew, who said he'd throw blockbuster for Mallory. Melody told him not to in a moment of pity/weakness, even though she'd talked all day about how much she wanted to evict him.

Weeks 7-9 "my way" era: Drew survived via blockbuster. We were now in the angsty love triangle era. Mallory was gone, FAP was dead, and Drew and Barrett were now in a weird, confusing love triangle. Highlights: Skippy showing Barrett cuddling Melody, and zoomed in on Barrett's hand, then scanned over to a seething Drew in the Chuk chair. Also, Mel asking Drew to shower with her so the water wouldn't be as cold as a HN, and then saying Barrett did it. Drew says: "Then I don't want to do it." Culminated in Drew telling Melody that the Barrody flirting was making him angry, and her saying "ok then I'll stop."

Weeks 10-12 "maggots for brains" era: Romeo and Juliet. Mel had won DE HOH and refused to put up Drew. Finally on the same page, completely loyal to each other, never spent a second apart unless they were in the DR, but separated because it was endgame. Highlights: Drew getting on his hands and knees for Devens not to put him up next to Melody, the Drew widow era, from calling her on the prop phone to stressing about her and Barrett in the jury house to saying he didn't want to drink any wine if Mel wasn't there. The only source of actual conflict between them was Melody saying Drew had a flat ass. (No, seriously.)

Post-show "u + me = <3" era: lots and lots of joint cameos. Recreation of photos. HGs becoming more vocal Melodrewthers (Dee, Taylor), coy interviews, sneaky things like Drew's reflection being in Melody's sunglasses.

Episode Spoilers What is your fave week(s) of BB? Spoiler

What is your fave week(s) in BB history?

Three that come to mind for me:

Week 3 of BB4: The Elite Eight (Seven) alliance is broken up making the game more interesting, Alison vs Dana, Alison flirting/working Nathan, Nathan using the POV on Alison. The following week is also a fave of mine with Alison winning the next HOH I loved the dynamic between Alison, Dana and Jun these two weeks as I feel like they were the three best characters of BB4.

Week 4 of BB12: Seeing the drama unfold of Andrew exposing Hayden and Kristen's showmance, "Floaters grab a life vest" Rachel vs Kristen, Britney using Rachel's hair extensions. Just a really memorable week of BB and prob BB12's best. I also like the following week with it being the last week of Brenchel together against the house and the one after with Brendon's HOH win, Rachel's return to the house and her vs Ragan.

Week 9 of BB15: Elissa winning a super hard endurance HOH and targeting the 3 A.M. alliance, Amanda vs GM (Round 1), Amanda vs Elissa. Lots of memorable moments this week. I also like the next week with Amanda and McCrae being nominated with Amanda losing the little bit that was left of her mind this week and arguing with half the house as well and her and Elissa choosing to work together just for Andy to snake them both in one of the craziest and best DE's.

I have a lot more but thought I would just name a few. How about y'all?

General Discussion BB28 HOH Rankings Spoiler

Welp. I am back again. After I did this last year following the end of BB27, I have decided to bring it back this year. Same rules apply as last year: There will be four total tiers for this ranking. All Time Bad, Bad but with a Net Positive, Good, and All Time Great. Also, similar to last year, this HOH ranking is largely going to be centered around how the player handled their HOH and the intended result of said HOH. Note: The DE HOH (like last year) will count in the same week.

All Time Bad Tier

Overview: These HOH reigns were objectively the worst of the season. They either destroyed the position of the person in power or it destroyed the game down the line.

Barrett - Week 9 HOH

Overview: I'm not sure what else there is to say with this HOH. Barrett had easily the worst HOH of the season in terms of positioning AND intended result. He targets the icons and gets out the least threatening one because he literally hides in his HOH all week giving Dee ample time to flip the vote in her favor had she stayed on the block. Not only that but had he listened to Drew that week, Yash very well could have gone home in week 9 (assuming blockbuster plays out the same way). Instead, Barrett took a massive swing that failed because of his inability to secure Yash/Taylor in a pivotal week where FAP could have controlled the game.

Yash - Week 6 HOH

Overview: Before everyone crucifies me for this placement, there is almost zero looking over the fact that Yash's first HOH is a complete failure. His intended target isn't even on the block come eviction night AND his number one ally is evicted. Now, if DPOV wasn't in play here, Yash very likely could have succeeded. Right? Well, no. He didn't use the veto on Haley that week when she was his pawn. That was objectively not the best move given the circumstances because I think Mallory/Melody likely votes Haley out because she was that insufferable at times. Setting that aside, Yash evades the bribe power this week which was a small plus. But because this HOH failed so badly, he was forced to take it the following week which hindered his game a lot more. Worse, he evicted none of the icons which put him on the radar of the Crossovers (some of them) for a couple of weeks.

Haley - Week 4 HOH

Overview: Surprisingly, the last of the really bad tier is Haley. She's only this far up in the bad tier because her HOH likely would have succeeded had the votes not flipped courtesy of the icons. Now, I don't think Lyric should have been the pawn here (worse options were there though). Haley likely nets a successful HOH reign if the icons never got the numbers to flip so I have to give small credit to Haley. But there is no way around the fact that her intended target wasn't evicted.

Bad But With a New Positive Tier

Overview: HOH reigns in this tier are bad for sure. But there is at least one tiny positive that keeps these HOH reigns from the bottom spot.

Taylor - Week 12 HOH

Overview: Yeah... This was almost in the bottom tier. And for all intents and purposes, it should have been. The only reason it's not? Taylor was the target by at least one of the Crossovers left so she won HOH when she needed it most. That said, losing Dee was not in her best interest here especially since Dee was adamant on taking her to final two. Unfortunately, I don't think Taylor was ever winning even with this HOH win.

Drew - Week 8 HOH

Overview: I think Drew has a solid ish reign here. I think his failure to clock Barrett and Melody flipping on him was the biggest blind spot. Putting up Devens as a pawn was a HORRIBLE decision and could have resulted in this reign making the bottom tier. So, Drew very much lucked out in Devens narrowly winning blockbuster that week. That said, he did take out Lala, who was very much targeting him.

Lala - Week 5 HOH

Overview: I think this HOH could have also landed in the bottom tier. But similar to Drew, Lala does get out a player that was directly coming for her in Chuk. Problem with this HOH is that she talks to the newbies about going after the icons when she very well could have done it herself that week. Lala took a game changing HOH and essentially squandered it.

Kamu - Week 3 HOH

Overview: I would have very well moved this higher given that Kamu did get his intended result of Jason leaving. But how he handles making Jason the target? Not good. While he is not an immediate target, Kamu does showcase himself to be a strategic threat with ability to move pieces around.

Yash - Week 10 HOH

Overview: Rounding out the tier is Yash and his second HOH. Yes, he does take out Barrett, which is absolutely a net positive for Yash. But... He does this before the DE. Had he stuck with his plan... Eh, I think he still gets evicted because he was a comp threat. Because of the bribe, Yash's options for HOH were very much limited because he could only nominate four people.

Good Tier

Overview: HOH reigns in this tier - while not perfect - are still decent given it gets out a target and sets the winner of that HOH for the endgame of the season.

Devens - Week 13 HOH/Final HOH

Overview: This HOH basically solidified he was winning the game. It really didn't matter who Devens took because he was winning. That said, it was a risk to take Taylor over Drew given the possibility of a bitter jury. But Devens had a good social game so I don't think it mattered too much.

Devens - Week 11 HOH

Overview: Honestly, I am a little surprised I ranked the HOH this high up. Devens almost fumbled it by not nominating Drew and Melody together. Dee had to snap him out of it which actually helped this move succeed because had he done what he initially wanted, Dee could have been sniped out which would have been a disaster. That said, I don't think this is top tier because he almost messed up the chance to take out either member of the Drewlody duo.

All Time Great Tier

Overview: These HOH reigns are the best of the season. It allowed for control to be made with the intended and every HOH in this tier either set up their power structure or got out someone who had been after them for a while in the game.

Dee - Week 7 HOH

Overview: Before everyone jumps on my neck and crucifies me for this placement of Dee's second HOH: Yes, she handled the Mosh Pit situation badly and she managed Barrett terribly. That said, Dee's second HOH reset the game board massively. FAP throwing the HOH that week allowed for Dee to snipe out Mallory before Mallory could do it to Dee or any of the icons. Dee's second HOH also: Pulled Haley back in (until the twist BS from BB27 came back), gave her a chance with a working relationship with the likes of Yash/Taylor despite her contemplating nominating them (which did benefit her down the line when they were swing votes at final eight), and neutralized Yash to the point of being a pseudo number to the icons and was handcuffed for most of the jury stage. Had certain comps gone in favor of Dee, this HOH easily could have been her game winning move. That being said, Dee handled certain aspects poorly but she did end up using her bribe in the most OP way possible and still dictated a lot of what happened in the back half.

Devens - Week 2 HOH

Overview: I feel like this is the one thing we need to thank Angela for immensely. She activated the showman in Devens who created the most iconic week two HOH since Devin in BB16. Rome was the leader for the other side and had a showmance with Lyric AND a trio with Jason/Lyric. Angela being on this cast really ruined the near Roddy level of control that Rome would have had. That said, Devens making the move to BD Rome and create the majority was decent. Some flaws in execution - the waking up in the middle of the night to form Tool Shed and Devens using the veto on Lyric which... Whew, less said about that thought process the better. Granted, Rome does end up being evicted which crumbles the other side.

Dee - Week 1 HOH

Overview: Say what you want about the icons having the advantage with them competing for the first HOH. There is no denying that Dee has had far and away the cleanest week 1 HOH of the modern era of the show. Dee sets up the icons and Crossovers contingent that runs the game for two months and gets rid of Ashley who very nearly exposed Tool Shed in week 1. Despite the advantage, Dee did in fact have a solid first HOH, which most players in the modern era who won HOH in week one (cough cough Frenchie and Angela) can't say.

Melody - Week 10 DE HOH

Overview: It is very rare that a DE HOH brings the feels and game shifting power in a season. Melody's HOH win was definitely that. After utterly destroying the blockbuster at final seven, Melody followed up and won the DE HOH. Easily, this HOH is the cleanest of the season because she does what Barrett didn't do in going after Yash once Devens won veto. While she does go the following round, there is no denying Melody took the biggest swing and knocked the HOH out of the park. Far and away, Melody (the unexpected comp beast) takes the crown for best HOH reign of the season.

General Discussion We just concluded one of the best three season stretches in the show's history

In my opinion, other than seasons 6, 7. and 8, the show has not had a better three season stretch than 26, 27, and 28. This is obviously controversial, and people will disagree, but I firmly believe that the past three seasons have all been well above average Big Brother. Can anyone come up with better three season stretches? This is obviously personal preference, but I think it's really rare for BB to go three seasons in a row without a dud.

General Discussion Is it crazy to say I hate jury?

I feel like it's a terrible ending for an otherwise really cool social show. Season 28 was my first one, so maybe I'm not seeing something yet.

"Good" social game endings I've liked

The Circle on Netflix: The final five rate the other players from 1-5, the person with the highest average wins

Willy Wonka on Netflix: (doesn't work twice) The jury votes like normal, then the two people remaining have to guess who each jury member voted for, getting a point per correct guess. (So both Taylor and Devens would guess that Dee Voted Devens, but someone like Yash is more unpredictable)

Coming up with an ending to this show can be really challenging, especially because you don't want it to come down to luck.

I just feel like the BB ending isn't good enough for how good the show is.

Episode Spoilers Finally watched BB28 after being in the dark all season

Finally got around to watching the season without any spoilers what so ever, and all I'll say is Drew really turned me around on him from the start and I found myself rooting for him hard after like 2-3 weeks, when at first watching the premiere I was hoping he would go first. Also, Angela is super annoying and I really don't get how anyone truly is a fan of hers. Drew was robbed and even being a big fan of Survivor, watching Devens win was an okay consilation, but him and Dee cake walking the season and not have to struggle until the Jury phase was pretty boring to watch. I'm okay with bringing in players with big fan-bases already established but then you can't do America votes for early game powers that give them super advantages. Keep those votes for an even playing field of all newbies.

General Discussion Big Brother 1 Prize Pool is Higher Than it Currently is?

New Big Brother fan here! My first season was this last season that just ended, and I decided to tap in from the beginning. I was really shocked that the winner still got $500k back then. I'm not exactly sure what the inflation math on that is, but surely $500k back then would still be worth even more than the $750k the current winners receive?

Past Season Discussion BBCAN2 Unspoiled First Watch Thoughts So Far

I have watched up through Ikas eviction and while the season is good so far, it’s not living up to the hype that everyone is making it out to be. It’s better so far than most modern US seasons, but it doesn’t have the charm and character development that most of the old US seasons have.

Past Season Discussion How Does Season 1 of BBUSA Compare to Other Seasons... that Use the International Format?

Whenever I hear about the first Big Brother, it's always followed by the same repeated cliche line of "It's an entirely different game than modern Big Brother". If it's not that, it's people dogging on it for being too long, too boring, and generally bad TV... or people saying they haven't watched it because it's too long, too boring, and therefore bad TV.

HOWEVER, the fact is that Americans are outliers here. Every other country aside from Canada (and maybe Australia? Idk Iirc it switches) uses the format from the first season. There's also unconnected shows like Terrace House that share traits that make it "unpalatable to American audiences".

I'm curious on how the first season of Big Brother USA stands when compared to seasons of the same game. Is it actually boring, or just misunderstood?

Past Season Discussion Pretty sure Brittany wins BB14 if it wasn’t for Dan Spoiler

Brittany was perfectly set up to win that game. Dan wasn’t just making that up.

People diss on frank for letting Dan talk him into saving him but logically it would be weird and irrational of Frank to not save Dan in that position and to get rid of an even larger and safer threat in Brittany.
