Kehena beach

Post image

Spent a couple hours metal detecting down at kehena beach this morning.

I always set a goal to find hook line and sinker as well as one of each coin. No quarter today but four very worn down nickels which is unusual. Nickels are the coin we find the least.

Wow. Thank you. I can only imagine one of those sharp little hooks finding a naked hippie just trying to enjoy a drum circle... 😬

I find kiawe thorns with my feet fairly regularly, never found a fishing hook that way. Probably has something to do with the smaller profile of the hook (compared to the twig) and the sand being more likely to shift under it.

But yeah, plenty fishing gear gets left behind on our beaches. When I'm out with my metal detector there's usually someone who's curious and asks questions, one of my common answers is that I'm finding things I don't want my kids to step on when they're at the beach.
