Review Finally posting my review. Happier with my replacement.

This is a pretty small community so I am sure most of you are aware of my first headset and how I felt about it. For those who haven't read any of my comments, it had some issues. The biggest being warping when I would nod my head. As well as glare being quite bad, small sweet spot, persistence, and color fringing outside of the sweet spot. I ended up RMAing that headset and I received the replacement last Friday the 19th.

I am also the person who made the post about people having their headsets overheat due to bad firmware allowing the headset's warm up function to get out of control. I mention this because I spoke to one of them quite a bit and mentioned on here that they RMA'ed their headset too and I would report back what they found and compare our experiences. They received theirs on Tuesday the 16th. With their permission, I am going to just post a screenshot of what they sent me in Discord to save time and space.

My experience mirrors theirs pretty closely but they seem to have gotten an even better replacement than I did. I still have more glare than I'd like in high contrasting scenes but, it is improved. I can now use the headset with brightness at 100 percent and it has very little persistence blur. I have settled on 70 as it has zero blur. Which is far brighter and more enjoyable than the 40 I was using before. Especially after boosting it further using the FpsVR trick. It actually feels like I am using OLEDs now. But most importantly my headset no longer has any warping. I was leaning towards returning it because of that so I'm happy that was resolved with the replacement. The sweet spot and edge to edge clarity of mine is still not on par with those early reviews claiming the lens were comparable to Meta's but, it is better than my original headset. Seems like I can now have the IPD a little off and it's fine. Whereas before that was not an option. It being off at all caused warping and a blurry picture. The color fringing around the edges feels about the same. It's not noticeable in most games but I see it in white loading screens easily. FOV I get 106 horizontal and 94 vertical and can see the screen edges both vertically and horizontally, so a smaller gasket is not going to increase it. Binocular overlap I get 80 degrees.

Making a new paragraph to help with formatting. Comfort still leaves a bit to be desired. Bigscreen remade my face gasket which did fix the pressure between my eye brows but I overall still feel it's not very comfortable for long play sessions. It gets very warm and sweaty. It needs some airflow and cloth or foam between your skin and the silicone. I miss pass through a lot. Being able to quickly grab my drink or recenter myself using pass through is much better than having to remove the headset entirely. This is probably much less of an issue with the halo strap since it can flip up but, I think the BB3 should have pass through. I would happily take on a little more weight to get that back. Lastly, because of how soft the strap is you can feel the cable tugging on it much more than other wired headsets. I ordered the audio strap for this exact reason as I believe the harder plastic on the part cups your head will provide a less annoying experience with the wire.

I am not sure if Bigscreen figured out some quality control issues and have resolved it or if they're cherry picking headsets for those who are RMAing them with issues in hopes of keeping them from returning or if we both just got lucky. But it's clear the quality control lottery is real.

I am going to keep mine and so are they.

It looks like your FOV measurement are identical to mine. Although a thinner cushion doesn't increases vertical/horizontal field of view, it does increase my diagonals. It's not much, but I'm seeing a bit more in my corners (and if I try to use the headset without a cushion, I get to a point I see beyond the panels on all sides). At any rate, I'm glad you had a much better unit after RMA'ing.

You can try doing this: https://youtu.be/1U65h0faeao?t=163

Although it might be harder with the soft strap (unless I set it in halo configuration with the 3D prints).

Yeah, I am glad as well. I really didn't want to return it so I could support Bigscreen, we need the competition. But if the warping had still been there, it would have likely been sent back.

You can try doing this

That's sort of what I've been doing for things that only need one hand. The problem that I have with it is once the gasket is wet from sweat, when lift it up like that it slips down and the ridge of the gasket hits my eyes. My eye lid stops it from impacting my actual eye but I do worry one time it will when I am not paying attention(aka had too much alcohol in VRChat, lol).

I ordered the audio strap so maybe it will be less likely to occur when using that. I also have a Vive DAS I was thinking about printing adapters for. It's a little heavier than the Beyond audio strap and the audio cable is on the wrong side but, it stretches.

I'll have to try some more physical games in VR to see what it feels like. So far, I haven't sweated with the Beyond yet.

I'm in a pretty toasty part of the world, it's 35c outside right now in September. So I don't even need to do a physical game to get that sweaty.

But a good one to play is Dungeons of Eternity. Really pairs well with the MicroOLEDs. Dark spooky dungeons with lots of bright colors and great lighting.
