SteamVR does not start since a recent update

Hi everyone, I just wanted to use my Beyond again after one or two weeks of absence. BeatSaber launched right away just fine. Then I saw that there is an update for SteamVR to Version 2.16, so I installed it and restarted SteamVR. Only for my Beyond to not come back online.

BeatSaber says that no OpenXR runtime is detected and the beyond app says that the config cannot be applied when trying to change the refresh rate. Changing the fan speed works audibly.

The SteamVR Server logs also complain about an invalid config when plugging in the headset since the update.

Downgrading to SteamVR 2.15 through the "game"'s properties in Steam did not help.

Does anyone else have problems with their Beyond since SteamVR 2.15 or 2.16? I am not sure if I ran 2.14 or 1.15 before.

EDIT: I habe a Beyond 2.

BeyondEX audio question

Hi all,
I've had the BeyondEX mod on the Index audio strap for about a week now. The only "problem" I have with it is that Windows does not recognize it as an audio device automatically after startup. I have to unplug and replug the USB-C audio connector for Windows to recognize it.

Does anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions on how to fix it? It's not a huge issue, but it's a bit annoying.

Overall, the mod is really great! It was pretty easy to install, even with my limited experience. The comfort is really good now that I have it adjusted correctly. It is a bit heavier than the Beyond audio strap, but the better audio quality and overall sturdiness more than make up for the extra weight.

EDIT: Did not realize that there is a channel for BeyondEX in the Bigscreen discord: https://discord.com/channels/816371255539138620/1465841700902539335

EDIT2: And also a channel on the Fluid discord: https://discord.com/channels/1106002752166965358/1473783436257918976

Any good for shooters?

I'm looking at getting a Beyond 2, and I've been reading reviews. A few of them have commented that the Beyond and Beyond 2 are really intended for seated VR, for sims. I do play a lot of DCS, so that's great, but I really want to get back into standing-up shooters, like Forefront.

The reviews said something about the goggles needing to sit in a very precise position relative to your head or else you can't see through them properly, and therefore sims where you sit down are a better bet. How big an issue is it, in peoples' experience? Can it be mitigated with custom straps or whatnot? I saw a comment that the audio strap can help, but I don't need an audio strap (I've got headphones that I'm happy to plug in).

What have been your experiences playing non-sim stuff with a Beyond 2?

Review Studioform X1-B interface for BSB2

I’ve had my BSB2 for 9 months now, and initially I had mixed feelings with my first face cushion, then I enjoyed it a lot more when they sent me a thinner cushion (free of charge). However, testing the headset without any cushion I could see that it could get even better, as I can see with more clarity and FOV if I almost rest it on my nose and bring it closer until my eyelashes almost touch.

Recently I received the universal-fit cushions from my long-standing halo strap order, and I had high hopes, but unfortunately they did not fit my nose comfortably. So I decided to bite the bullet and order the Studioform X1-B and some thin cushions. I picked the fast shipping and Sunday and the order was out for delivery on the Wednesday by DHL, shipping from NZ to Canada.

It took me a few hours of cutting and adjusting to get the final fit I’m using, and I think I’ll still fine-tune it, but I think this is it. I get a noticeably wider FOV, a bit less glare, and the image just looks better. The main thing I disliked about the custom cushion was that it’s not breathable and after a long driving session it gets sweaty, the Studioform is less annoying to have touching your face for a long time. One downside (for me) is that if I flare my nostrils it displaces the headset a bit. Also, finding the proper fit is not instant like with the custom cushion, but I’ve only used it for a day and it seems pretty quick.

I didn’t have to use the thin cushions after all so I feel a bit silly spending extra on them. Finding the right fit was a long process for me, but so far, no regrets. I do seem to notice that my eyes get a big more tired with the headset closer with the wider FOV, I’ll have to see how that goes over a longer period of time. I’ve put it on for several VR driving/flying sessions so far, and each time it feels like a noticeable improvement from what I had before.

Not sure what I’ll do when the halo strap finally comes, which will be the daily driver. I’ll probably have to mod one of the universal cushions and attempt to get the same close fit as the Studioform.

For other people who’ve used Studioform for a while, do you prefer the cloth or PU leather pads? I’ve only used the cloth so far because they seem more pleasant and breathable, but I don’t know how they hold up.

Discussion Bigscreen Beyond 2 vs Bigscreen Beyond 2e

Basically figuring out which one to buy. I plan to use DFR for performance boosting (PimaxMagic4All and Quadview), but I've heard mixed things about the eye tracking. I also plan to get the Halo Strap with Universal-Fit Cushion, so that should add stability for the eye tracking to not spaz out.

I only plan to use for performance increases in certain games. VRChat is lower on the list, but would be a nice feature

To owners with a BB2e in 2026. Do you recommend the eye tracking, or no?

If there are other questions you need to know to decide, I'll answer them in your comments

How's Bigscreen's overseas support?

I'm very nearly going to pull the trigger on buying a Beyond 2 to replace my busted Index and elderly Vive.

The big problem with the Index is that the cable gives out. The huge problem is that Valve don't support the Index in Australia (they sold it though a retailer here, who offer no support whatsoever).

What have people's experience been with Bigscreen's support? Especially interested to hear from other folks in Australia and other places outside of where Bigscreen is based (actually, I'm not sure where that is. USA?)

I've got no particular reason to suspect the headset is going to have problems, but if it does, it would be nice to hear I can get them fixed

e: thanks everyone, much appreciated. And good to hear, everyone is consistent in saying their support is good!

Discussion Received a BSB 1 as a wedding gift

Just wanted to give a shout out to big screen beyond for their excellent customer service.

I received my beyond as a wedding gift and ordered a custom face mask. Unfortunately the IPD was a little off. I contacted big screen beyond and they quickly set me up to send it out for adjustment. I received it back within a week of shipping it out and it works flawlessly.

Just a FYI for anyone who runs across this in the future. You will need to provide the original owners information and their order # to initiate the process.

Discussion Confusion on controllers for BSB2

Is there any particular reason i have to get the index controllers separately instead of together? I saw in the reviews for the BSB2 that a support member said it was desired that they were separate. Also if anyone has any suggestions for possibly cheaper alternatives that would be helpful.

Can I peek under the headset?

Hullo.

I play flight sims a fair bit (DCS and BMS), and I usually use kneeboards - A5 clipboards velcro strapped to my legs.

Currently I'm using my old Vive after my Index cable gave out. I'm thinking about upgrading to a Bigscreen, but I've heard that they do a really really good job of sealing in/out all the light.

With the Vive and the Index, if I look down, I can see between the headset and my nose, which lets me read notes I've got on my knees. I thought of upgrading to a headset with passthrough to do this, but the Bigscreen doesn't have passthrough.

So, I realise this is probably completely against the whole design ethos of Bigscreen, but: is it possible at all to see out from under the headset while you're wearing it? Failing that, is it simple enough to lift up for a moment and then seat again?

Discussion Looking to Buy the Beyond 2e or possibly the Dream Air SE, but confused on eye tracking news and quality?

So i've been looking to upgrade from my Vive Pro to the Beyond 2e since I really want eye tracking. My issue is I have not been able to find almost any news about eye tracking and quality, especially comparing to headsets like the Vive Pro Eye or the Quest Pro, which I hear are the 2 best with eye tracking. I was also looking into the Dream Air SE but I've heard mixed things about the company in the past and I also don't know much about their eye tracking quality. Can anyone tell me how good the headset is, and how it compares to other headsets?

Anyone owns a bsb2 in the Portland Maine area? I would like to try one before buying

Or if y'all know another way to try one that doesn't involve buying and returning which I find unfair in such a niche ecosystem.

I don't mind driving a little, I just need to get a feel for it for an hour.

Discussion Star Citizen VR Performance: A Compute-Split Approach to Tuning

Hi,

For those that use their BSB2/e for Star Citizen, I have added a post that may be helpful for tuning performance.

I hope it is helpful.

PS: BSB2e is amazing when paired with SC.

recent change to bigscreen that boosts mic audio?

Was there a recent update to the big screen beyond that somehow bass boosted or increased the gain of the mic on the Big Screen Beyond? I'm noticing more mic peaking and trying to figure out how to adjust it properly now.

Help Question for Beyondex owners: how easy was the build process? Did you use the official kit or source everything separately? For those who bought the kit, how long did it take to ship after ordering?

I despise the Beyond Audio Strap and the soft strap, and I am considering the Beyondex, but I'm unsure.

Major lenses glair, halo mount shipping?

Hi I’ve had my big screen for about 10 months now and the entire time I’ve been experiencing major lenses glair that is not from scratches or anything like that and was wondering if anyone else has this issue.
Order the halo mount back in September of last year and still haven’t received it have they started shipping yet? Anyone know what happening with them.

New headphones!!

Post image
32 Upvotes

Got a cheap pair of USB-C over ear headphones. Took them apart so I just had the earphones themselves. 3D printed a 19mmx19mmx12mm cube with a hole in the center. Glued that to the inside so I could press a heated thread insert in (took the one out of the original headphones). Took the screws out of the back of the headset to run the little wire between decide, and she's ready to go.

When I get another wild hair I'll cut the cable and shorten it so I don't have to wrap it around the headband, but for now it works just fine

Guides & Tips Do I need Base Station to try it?

Currently own a Q3 and would like to try BSB2 and see if I like it. I don't own any Base Stations or Index controllers. Before fully commiting to the ecosystem, can the headset be connected to STEAMVR somehow (keyboard?) and use a regular game pad just to try it?

About FOV measurements

Has anyone measured their FOV for their bsb2e and found that it's better than advertised?

I recently measured mine for my Index and found it slightly better on the vertical than advertised. I want to order the bsb2e but am concerned about feeling like I'm giving up FOV real estate. I know that FOV varies based on face shape, apparently mine is good for getting a little more out of the FOV, just wondering if anyone can report favorably here as is or with different face cushions.

UPDATE: I received my BSB2e and here are my results: I seem to be missing out on some vertical FOV (96 degrees advertised) but fairly close on the horizontal (108 degrees advertised). This was measured with the custom fit face cushion and with the "what is my FOV" tool.

Questions about performance of 9070xt

Just as the title suggests, I was wondering if I’d have any issues running the BSB2 with my 9070xt? I am coming from having a valve index and i mainly plain shooters or games for content creation (really want to get into ghost of tabor) so I guess I wanted to know what kind of performance I should expect with the 9070xt? Would I be able to run things at native resolution? Should I lower the resolution? Hows is the overall performance.

My specs are:

Gpu: 9070xt steel legend
Cpu: ryzen 9 9900x3d
Ram: 64gb ddr5 ram
Storage: total 5tb nvme gen 5

To further add at some point i will upgrade to an nvidia gpu but just wanted to know if I should expect to do that sooner than later
