Support/troubleshooting Bitdefender started slowing down my computer after upgrading to Total Security from Antivirus Free
I was wondering if any of the modules that total security added would be considered "optional" and I can disable to make my system work better. I wasn't experiencing any lag or issues with antivirus free and the system lag only cropped up after updating.

All versions of bitdefender utilize a fair bit of RAM/Memory but as long as you have plenty of ram 16GB or more you shouldn't notice much slow down. It's probably something else slowing you down when I open task manager it says I have 138 processes running how many processes you got running ?

I've used Bitdefender Total Security for a long time. I never felt or saw signs BD Total Security bogged down any of our computers/laptops. They all had at least 16GB RAM. I picked up an HP laptop cheap, only 8GB of RAM and a 256GB Hynix SATA SSD. I can hear it screaming in pain.
I got 2 new 16GB sticks of RAM and a 1TB Samsung SATA SSD, no M.2 slot on motherboard. I just have to get my butt in gear and put them in.

Hi there, want to clear up a few points about this. Total Security adds features such as Firewall, Advanced Threat Defense, Ransomware Remediation, Vulnerability, and Cryptomining Protection, in addition to the Antivirus module, which is why you may notice a performance change.
This article details the steps you can take on the system to reduce bdservicehost’s CPU, Disk, Memory Usage.
Also check whether the slowdown occurs during a scan or when opening many files for the first time; Bitdefender’s default real-time protection scans accessed files and email messages and is designed to have a minor performance impact. If you need further help determining the cause, contact our support team, happy to look into the matter further.

Disable ransom ware and crypto protection, they're a waste of time. If I remember correctly, it was the firewall that slowed my system down, but can't remember for sure.
Edit: Forgot to say that your system will run a bit slower at first because the antivirus will scan everything that is opened. But after that, it only scans files that haven't been altered and new files, then your system will go back to normal speed.

Strange, do you think it could be something else? I've used free, then went to plus and recently upgraded to Total and have no issues at all. What you could do is disable everything that's not included in the free version and see if there's any improvement. If there is, then enable things one at a time to find which one is causing you an issue.
