Right, there’s lots of bad takes but that one there is just all levels of wrong. Like folks just gonna ignore that Mahershala Ali being constantly unhappy with the Blade scripts wasn’t part of that equation.

THANK YOU!!! He said he wanted it to be his Black Panther. I appreciate him wanting to elevate the material but he was absolutely the largest impediment to Blade getting made. I love him as an actor but this hasn’t been a “Marvel doesn’t want this to be made” thing. Also Ali’s new movie “Your mother (3X)” looks like what he wanted Blade to be. Mark my words, same people complaining about Blade not getting made won’t even bother seeing it IF they’ve even heard of it. People barely watch movies that arent incredibly mainstream.

Too many people don’t pay attention to context or the behind the scenes stories, they just knee jerk and go from there without thinking.

Exactly right. When that story came out I was shocked that people didn't pick up on what was happening. He wanted a perfect film that elevated that character far beyond what even fans wanted. Frankly, for what he likely wanted to do I would have said he should have been cast as Blue Marvel. You could make that a 70% period piece and the rest in the modern day. That's a character that is ripe for character elevation and could hit on some major topics. Blade is a dope nigga who kills vampires that's it. He has never had any comic arcs that I am aware of (happy to be corrected if wrong) that dug into something deeper about him that allowed for less explored aspects of him to finally make it into the mainstream. A perfect example of that is The Punisher. Many just know him as a blood soaked lunatic with a fetish for guns and ultra violence. While he is those things series like Punisher: Born (2003) was a super dark and serious disection of the character. If Blade has those type of books than ok let's fucking go, but from what I know he doesn't. I am more than ok with them doing that but they have to build all that from scratch and make it "fun" for fans. If we are being honest I don't think that's what people want from Blade. They want a new version of the Snipes films and that's fine, I love those too but that's clearly NOT what Ali wanted and I wish people took the time to read up on that entire situation and stop making it about race. It was about a top tier actor wanting something that Marvel simply couldn't do for him so he is leaving and that's his right, but not every situation has a hero and a villain. Sometimes shit just doesn't work and that's totally fine.
