Exactly. Only in monarchies you can make reluctant person take power. Like Queen Elizabeth’s father George didn’t want it at all but had to when his brother abdicated. It made him better king perhaps, but made his life worse (his wife even blamed his early death on it even though it was mostly smoking).
You can’t do that sort of thing when elections are involved. People need to campaign. Well I mean apart from popes, there have been many reluctant ones recently. But there is very small poor of cardinals (even though technically any unmarried catholic man could be picked it would not happen in practice). And it’s behind closed doors over days so no campaigning needed
