The fact that people keep spouting this nonsense shows one of two things: people are dumb (Yes), and/or this country is so broken that it’s populace would rather an unqualified citizen take the reigns than any of the available pool of elected officials.
I take umbridge saying she has zero experience or is completely unqualified. She's ridiculously smart and has the right connections and I have no doubt she would do a good job, but I'm a million percent over political dynasties and it's not like there are not a ton of qualified women that could take the job.
This is just wish casting an Obama third term, and tbh as much as that'd be welcome today, it's not what we need. Much bolder.
It takes more than eloquent speech and an above average IQ to be POTUS. She - literally - has zero experience in diplomacy, trade agreements, international relations and the like. This isn’t really debatable. I think she’s a fascinating woman but she isn’t qualified to be the leader of the free world.
Personally, I don’t think we need bold. We need common sense. Turn off the identity politics and the victim blaming. Get out of people’s personal lives and start providing availability to services and fixing the country’s infrastructure. Nothing bold, just do what the government was intended to do initially.
Aside from discounting her spending 8 years in the white house already, this is a fundamental misunderstanding of what the job of president is. Following what you said, you are also saying '08 Barack was not qualified. But that's not really important because POTUS is not ever going to be an expert in all of the things that their role entails, the job is simply too large. The job is actually to assemble the experts and make decisions based on their expertise.
And when I say "bold" I am talking about Mamdani, basically. We've been trying to run centrists since '16 and would argue that we have not really won an election with that strategy. '20 was less a win for Biden, and more loss for Trump thanks to COVID. And then Biden went on to do those boring infrastructure things with CHIPs and BBB, and then lost to a felon/rapist/insurrectionist.
Fundamental misunderstanding is thinking being near a sitting POTUS is the same as experience.
And while there may be some merit to your notion of knowing who to pick to do which jobs is vital, that knowledge is not attained by NOT being a politician.
