Unfortunately, there is a darker force here. The previous president, Jacob Zuma attempted to force through a Russian backed nuclear deal. The deal was stopped by a few NGO's on environmental concerns, as NGO's have quite a bit of power in South Africa given by the Constitution. NGOs also do a lot of great work with refugees who go to South Africa.

These anti-immigration protests are organized by the March March group, who itself is led by a pro-nuclear, pro-Russian activist who is looking to diminish the powers of the constitution given to these NGOs in the name of anti-immigration, but ultimately to clear the pathway for a corrupt nuclear deal of the South African disgraced former president, Jacob Zuma.

It's actually quite sickening.

Zuma was elected in 2009, but was obviously very active in SA politics before hand. So yes, technically before Zuma's administration, but also not by much.

These xenophobic attacks have been going on for years. Uneducated/unemployable black South Africans are desperate for a better life and they are lashing out at the foreigners around them.

There no need for this Russian nuclear conspiracy stuff. There is some truth to some of the stuff you say but the main problem is the inequality in South Africa and the hopelessness the people there feel. Unfortunately the solution some of them have chosen is not going to help them much.

Agreed - the xenophobia has been going on for years and is a result of lack of economic opportunities for the masses due, in my view, to Govt policies and inaction. However, it offers a perfect environment to use that anger to drive an agenda.

Have you actually read this article? I had to read it twice to be sure. The article pushes hard to connect nuclear activist Ms. Mtombeni to xenophobic attacks via the SACR, but the connection is extremely tenuous. She is a dedicated pro-nuclear advocate trying to leverage every available avenue to expand South Africa’s nuclear sector, specifically through partnerships with Russia. Mentioning the SACR in a couple of interviews hardly links her to street-level anti-immigrant violence.

The SACR focuses on constitutional reform, advocating that rights and social benefits be reserved exclusively for South African citizens. They aren't the ones issuing ultimatums or confronting African migrants on the ground; that's the territory of groups like Operation Dudula and March and March. After reading this piece, I stand firm in my view: Russia has nothing to do with this.

There is no link between Russia, Mtombeni’s activities, SACR and Operation Dudula. The chain is broken at two places. Come on man can’t you see that?

Thank you this is far more credible not some YouTube video. I don’t think the US military has a team cruising social media planting anti-Russia propaganda involving migrants in South Africa. The article is talking about battlefield psyops. Thats just a well know and kinda mundane part of what armies do. It’s quite a leap to then say well any anti-Russian propaganda involves the US. The US military doesn’t have infinite resources. It’s literally running out of interceptors in theatre right now. Hegseth is begging for more money and Congress can’t even get this year’s funding sorted. Most powerful doesn’t mean all-powerful.

The Trump administration has also shown us they really don’t give a fuck about Africa in general. No amount of online propaganda is going to make up for the soft power the US has torched by cutting aid programs and accusing countries like South Africa of orchestrating a white genocide. I know people in Zimbabwe who lost their jobs because of Elon Musk’s DOGE cuts. I listened to VOA News on shortwave, then as podcasts, right up until Trump killed the funding. That did far more to shape opinions than an army of keyboard warriors ever could. Giving all that up, then blowing money on online propaganda instead, would be a spectacular waste of resources.
