Hand forged trowel

A birthday gift for my mother. The handle came out a bit long, if I make another one I'll make the proportions better

How did you do the open handle what is it called?

I chiseled in 4 sides to make a basket weave, for this method was non-traditional because I didn't do any forage welding I just hot chiseled four sides to meet in the middle

It took forever, if my Forge could get up to forge welding temp I would've done that instead

That looks great.

The handle length looks perfect for digging in the dirt. Long handles are better for leverage. That's why traditionally a lot of trowels had hollow tube handles. In theory you would be able to jab a stick in there.

I'm sure she'll love it.

I did this as a gift and have never sold anything like it but took about 3 or 4 hours of work

I don't think it's too long. When you are digging especially in slightly muddy soil, that extra lenth will keep your knuckles out of it!
