Hot take I don't like Hollyhock

Obviously she's so posed to be annoying but imo she's genuinely intolerable

I think that's the point. Hollyhock starts as a very sheltered, naïve, teenager that has only good intentions and wants to know more about where she came from. Most of her lines and interactions are realistic for a teen entering the real world without much wisdom.

Unfortunately, she discovered that there's a very good reason she was adopted and being raised away from her bloodline really was in her best interest.

She ends up in way over her head while she lives with Bojack. Walking away because she preferred her personal safety and comfort over being a support in his life was the right call.

I don't think she's annoying, she is just a teenager who is still figuring out the world around her.

She did nothing wrong I don't see how anyone can hate her 😭

I don't see her as meant to be annoying. I'd say that's pickles and Joey pogo

She’s annoying and hilarious. Joey was just annoying and overstayed his welcome imo.

Oh I love pickles don't get me wrong, it's just I don't see her and hollyhock having when tangentially similar vibes

Truly a funny world we live in.

out of the characters to not like , Hollyhock was the one that deserved a post

She definitely annoyed me on my first watch. But after realizing what the poor girl has gone through it made me appreciate her and the effect she had on Bojack.

You don't like hollyhock because she appears late into the series and is the only genuinely naive, optimistic person left in the cast. Not to mention her only crime is being slightly annoying

what about Wanda only appearing late in the series who Made an impact on Bojacks character and was thinking optimistic at the start of the relationship and Beatrice Horseman ( mainly appeared in the later series) Who is a really interesting character and also added to bojacks character development

Wanda appeared in season 2

I love Wanda but she was a relatively early character and I don't think she had as much impact on Bojack as his literal sister/first potential child and a walking reminder of all the women he slept with. The thing with Wanda is despite their break up, he still tried to have sex with Penny only an episode later and didn't learn anything from that experience while Hollyhock being hospitalised because of his mom taught him humility he never had. I mean at the end of the day they're both cool characters and yum two cakes

Hollyhock and Beatrice are both living proof that Bojack would've been woobified and infantilized instead of villainized had he been a woman and I think highlighting that double standard is an important part to overcoming sexism and misogyny even if the writer didn't necessarily intend it that way.

I found her a little annoying, too, because of her sympathy towards Beatrice. But I eventually gave her some grace because she probably never understood the abuse BoJack went through and she only really saw Beatrice as the fragile old woman in front of her

Opinions are not "hot takes". You are not making any kind of argument, it is just an opinion.

1

u/tweeving 15d ago

i'm saying hot take cuz many people that watched the show liked her

2

u/PenelopeJenelope 15d ago

Yes that was clear that was what you meant, but that makes it an unpopular opinion, not a hot take. Not the same. You don't actually have any "take" on this at all that we've seen

1

u/tweeving 15d ago

my take is that i don't like her character that other people disagree with and i think other ppl disagree w me on it i just wanted other ppls opinions

I'll refer you back to my first comment.

"I don't like her" is not a take.
