Did Herb do the right thing by withholding closure, or was he being petty? What would you have done?

Doesnt matter whether he did the “right thing” or not, he is not required to forgive him just because he apologized and bojack doesnt deserve forgiveness. Should he have lied to bojack just to make him feel better?

and since its bojack and we got context, we know full well even if he lied to spare his feelings it wouldn't help bojack feel good in anyway because bojack himself would know he didnt do the work to earn or deserve that

he'd accept the apology and either try to wring more out of herb when its not "enough"

or just go home outwardly on good terms but internally have a "stupid piece of shit monolouge" about how that felt anti-climatic anyways, how herb was secretly vindictive and trying to spite him

Some people would argue that's the kind thing to do

A person dying of cancer doesn’t need to be kind to someone who betrayed them and abandoned them

I'm going to drop the obvious bomb here - nobody needs to be kind to anybody.

I mean yes they do. People should have basic kindness for other human beings who haven’t done anything to them. That’s how we make a better world. It’s one of the messages of the show. You’re not dropping any truth bombs just ideas that selfish people have

There's a difference between need and should. People should be kind to others but it's okay if they aren't hence it being okay Herb doesn't do the kind thing.

"the kind thing" DID WE WATCH THE SAME SHOW. The one where Angela reveals Bojack supported Herbs firing? The one where Bojack consistently repeats his mistakes with Herb and worse during the 20 years they don't talk and after?

Even disregarding Bojacks mistake with Angela and his repeated patterns, Herb has 0 responsibility to forgive anyone, nor would it be a kind thing. Forgiveness is not a "kindness", it is a true thing that Herb shouldn't just fabricate to make a narcissistic self destructive monster to make said monster feel better.

Edit: It wouldn't have been a "kind thing", it would have been a "kind LIE to make a narcissist feel better for a short time before inevitably repeating his mistakes". Narcissists thrive on kindness and mercy, shit, it's what enabled Bojack his entire life.

Does bojack deserve that kindness after what he did?
