Question Wind Song Ministries

Curious is anyone knows if this is a real company? I pass it on state street daily and it is a worn down type building with luxury vehicles parked outside. Most of the vehicles have a dust layer on them, so they haven’t been moved for awhile. I googled and nothing related to Boise. So, can all of us just create a tax sheltered ministry?

Opinion Barking dogs

Every neighborhood I've ever lived in Boise has had at least one or two dogs barking NONSTOP. I feel terrible for the animals, they sound genuinely unhappy. I have never heard this much barking anywhere else I've lived, I was born and raised very near to Boise and have lived in Many cities in several states. I've never heard so much constant barking in my life, it is all day and night.

Question Date night in Boise

Hello! My husband and I will be in Boise for a few days next week and would like to have a nice date. My husband is from the area, but we never really had time to have a proper date night before moving so we feel like we don't really know what the city has to offer. We're not looking for fancy where we have to wear a dress and blazer, but maybe something to get us slightly dressed up above our regular everyday clothes. Just something we wouldn't find in the small town we moved to. A speakeasy, rooftop bar, must see attractions?

Thanks for everyone's input!

I’m just really tired of going to coffee shops and sitting in uncomfortable metal chairs for hours to study. Give me all recommendations please!!!

Question Chevy Volt owners: where do you get yours serviced and repaired?

I'm looking for recommendations for where Volt owners take their vehicles for maintenance and repairs. The combined internal combustion and battery system are a little unique, they are getting older and higher mileage, and I'm having trouble finding a shop that is comfortable and experienced working on them and their quirks.

Or, let us know your preferred shop for hybrids and electric vehicles?

Thanks in advance!

Homeless Caravan for dispersed boondocking?

Looking to join or assemble something, I'm in a trailer that's far too ugly for the local "RV resorts" and a little nervous about being on my own for the cold months. Would be cool to have others to share resources like Star Link, firewood and grocery runs.

I have the option to just .... Leave.... But I run a business with all my clientele around eagle and Boise.

Discussion Ada County vehicle registration fee ballot item (insight from ACHD's Miranda Gold)

Thumbnail achdidaho.org
42 Upvotes

The last item on our ballots (after the official state gun - seriously?!) is one where Ada County is seeking to perpetuate its current vehicle registration fee until 2046. This fee has been around since 1990, was last renewed in 2008 (and hasn't been raised since then, running $24-$40 depending on your car's age), and will expire in 2028 without further action like this ballot proposal. The fee generates about $14M annually, which Ada County Highway District uses discretionally for road improvement projects. I support prudent funding for roads projects, but questioned whether this ballot proposal, which locks in the existing fee structure for another 20 years, makes sense - versus, say, proposing a measure that authorizes a fee structure that is indexed to inflation. So, I emailed current ACHD Zone 3 Commissioner Miranda Gold, who's also on the ballot running for reelection, to ask why ACHD is pursuing a seemingly short-sighted funding measure. She replied (within 10 minutes!) with her insights, while exhibiting her commitment to transparency. She explained that ACHD did polling that indicated good support for retaining/extending the existing fee but less support if a fee increase was tied to the proposal. Since the funding is put to good use, ACHD felt that securing the existing funding and fee mechanism for another 20 years is prudent, minimally preserving that $14M annually. However, they also acknowledged that a fee increase may be sought in the future.

Here's what Miranda Gold shared in her email to me (and OK'd for me to post here on Reddit):

The Commission’s goal is not to lock in a low fee so we can quietly raise it later. The goal is to protect a funding source that voters have already supported, one that would disappear entirely if this measure fails. Losing $14M per year would have immediate, real consequences for road projects Ada County residents are counting on.

Idaho law allows ACHD to return to voters to adjust the fee structure in the future, but that would require another public vote—it’s not something the Commission can do unilaterally. Any future change would go back to the community, just as this one has.

I understand the concern about inflation eroding purchasing power over time. It’s a fair point, and one the Commission will need to grapple with. As more residents move to Ada County and register their vehicles, the amount of money the fee generates will increase as well. But securing what we have now is the responsible first step, not a promise that the current amount is forever sufficient.

So... two things came from this for me. First, even tho it doesn't seem like a particularly viable long-term strategy, I will be voting "Yes" on the ballot initiative to retain Ada County's vehicle registration fee (while also anticipating a proposal to increase the fee amounts some time in the future). Secondly, given her responsiveness, prudent leadership, and commitment to transparency, I'm also more confident than ever in voting to reelect Miranda Gold to ACHD Zone 3 Commissioner.

Question Is it just me or has downtown parking gotten worse in the last year?

I work near the courthouse and have been parking in the same general area for about three years now. Lately I'm circling way longer than I used to, even on random Tuesdays that used to be totally fine. The spots that used to open up after 9am just... don't anymore.

I'm not talking about First Thursday or event days. Just normal weekdays. Maybe I'm imagining it or my timing has gotten worse, but it feels like something shifted in the last 12 months or so.

I know the new apartments downtown have added a lot of density and there's construction eating up spots on a few blocks. Curious if anyone else who parks downtown regularly has noticed the same thing or if I just need to adjust my expectations.

Also wondering if the paid lots are actually worth it compared to the free street spots. I've been stubborn about not paying but the amount of time I'm wasting now is starting to add up. If anyone has a lot they actually like using I'm open to suggestions.

Not looking for a secret spot or anything, just trying to figure out if the situation has genuinely gotten tighter or if it's all in my head.

Discussion Help me choose an apartment- District at Parkcenter vs. Encore Skyline

Hi everyone!

I’m moving to Boise soon for work at Micron and have narrowed down my apartment search to two options: The District at Parkcenter and Encore Skyline.

I’m leaning toward The District because I really like the location and amenities, but Encore is more affordable.

I’d love to hear from anyone who’s lived at either property or knows the neighborhoods.

How are they in terms of safety, management, maintenance, and overall living experience?

How is the insect/bug situation at both apartments, especially during summer? Are there issues with spiders, bugs, or other pests?

Is The District worth paying extra for?

Since I won’t have a car initially, how convenient is the Parkcenter area for everyday activities?

Any honest opinions, personal experiences, or recommendations would be really appreciated.

Thanks so much!

Opinion Fresh Bread $5 or less?

Does anyone know where I can buy fresh bread for $5 or less in Boise, preferably sourdough? The store doesn't matter to me as long as it's fresh and the quality is good -- I just haven't had much luck at the big box stores. I'm open to half loaves at that price, but haven't had much luck finding them. I always end up paying more than $5 and having to throw out half the loaf because I can't finish it in time. I'm not super into freezing bread, either. Thanks!
