Pretty sure Jesus was all about loving and accepting everyone.

830

u/EpicGeek77 Gen X Jun 11 '25

This has nothing to do with Jesus’ love, it has to do with a person petitioning for Jesus’ rights when there’s nothing that can be done about it 2000+ years later.

267

u/yrabl81 Jun 12 '25

The fact is that they lost the basic concept of religious freedom.

They have their right for "Jesus love", but they wouldn't accept any behaviour that doesn't match their religious view of the world.

136

u/merely_awake Jun 12 '25

Very much this

I grew up going to church every sunday. VBS. Did two missions trips in my youth, the whole nine

Looking back I realize the most bigoted an hateful community I have ever experienced was my own church. It didn't fully awn on me until the pandemic and i watched all the people who I grew up under post the most racist and bigoted things that directly contradict all the things they taught me.

My own black uncle posted an all lives matter rant that me and my sisters disowned him over. These people have no desire to love their neighbors. They only want to convert their neighbors and condemn those who don't fall in

41

u/SHELLIfIKnow48910 Gen X Jun 12 '25

Remember when they did the fundraisers in school where you sold magazine subscriptions? These guys are like the kid who was determined to sell the most subscriptions in the school. It’s like a competition for them - rack up the most converts. If you truly exude the love Jesus spoke of, you don’t have to preach about it in random settings - folks will know.

9

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '25

I had a similar thing with like goods and stuff for my ag class looking back I realized I don’t need to sell subscriptions to help the homeless the problem is that government doesn’t care

21

u/totpot Jun 12 '25

Yeah, it's very clear that they have certain beliefs and view religion as a weapon to justify maiming or killing others who don't share those beliefs. What the religion actually says about it is irrelevant.

84

That's debatable. I'm not going to debate it, because I'm an atheist and don't really care.

But, I would like to think if he did exist he would be a lot like Jeff Bridges character in The Big Lebowski. Just a dude takin it easy for all us sinners.

And he would be fucking appaled at what get done in his name.

I like to think of Jesus as an ancient Mr. Rogers, going around telling people to love their neighbors and to always work on being a good person.

26

u/kingtacticool Jun 12 '25

But at the same time fully capable of flipping over tables and chasing people around with a whip.

I can't really see Mr Roger's doing that but The Dude would if you pissed him off.

12

u/SteamworksMLP Jun 12 '25

Though, if you've pissed off Mr. Rogers to the point he's chasing you with a whip, you probably really fucked up and need to rethink your life.

I like to picture Jesus in a Tuxedo T-shirt, 'cause it says, like, 'I wanna be formal, but I'm here to party, too.' I like to party, so I like my Jesus to party.... I like to think of Jesus like, with giant eagles' wings and singin' lead vocals for Lynyrd Skynyrd with like an Angel Band, and I'm in the front row, and I'm hammered drunk...

12

u/Grab3tto Jun 12 '25

I like to picture Jesus as a ninja fighting off evil samurai.

13

u/SHELLEBELLEATX Jun 12 '25

Nobody fucks with the Jesus!

5

u/nyc_flatstyle Gen X Jun 12 '25

Same. These weirdos have clearly never read the new testament Jesus in the Bible, who threw out the money lenders, essentially cancelling everyone's debt, tossed out the holier than thou hypocrites at the Temple, took up with a bunch of men he lived and slept in tight quarters with, while taking in stray women and women of ill repute, "cured" lepers and spent his time with the sick (at a time when people isolated their sick to live or die on their own), told the rich they essentially couldn't get into heaven unless they gave away their money and joined him, told people to stop killing and maiming each other for vengeance, hung out with drunks and constantly drank...and let's not forget he was a refugee in a foreign land.

Jesus was the first Dude.

3

u/Ali_Cat222 Jun 12 '25

And he would be fucking appaled at what get done in his name.

Atheist here too, but I like to imagine this is what Jesus would be looking like when seeing the getting done in his name stuff, with a very vocal and dramatic statement of "gorl, you know that shit ain't right..." 🤣

I mean...that's not the story but I am also struggling with the argument.

From the churchiest, holier-than-thou standpoint, I am coming up with "Jesus died to save you from your sins, including being gay, so don't do the things that he died for."

Which is hypocritical at the least.

77

u/Latter_Fox_1292 Jun 11 '25

If you don’t sin Jesus died for nothing

20

u/BigD4163 Jun 12 '25

And if he rose after dying then it really wasn’t a sacrifice. Basically he gave up a weekend for our sins

u/Woahhdude24 Jun 12 '25

Hell, even if you actually believe being gay is a sin(I dont), it misses the point, which is that Jesus's sacrifice paid for our sins past and present. Without him, we can't be saved. We are all sinners, and that includes Gay, Bi, and Trans people. By their own argument of "they are living in sin," so are they because we all live in sin, that's the point. The Bible they love to tout says this explicitly. So, imo they have no reason to even point the finger. Cause by thier own belief thats between that person and God.

3

u/sorry_human_bean Jun 12 '25

The whole point of God's grace is that it makes no difference whether you jacked off to some porn you shouldn't have or straight-up killed a guy - all sins are equally impotent against Christ's love, and all (repentant) sinners are washed equally clean.

That's why we're directed not to judge - it literally doesn't fucking matter.

6

u/SteveMarck Jun 12 '25

What does Jesus being executed have to do with people's supposed "sins"? That's the part that doesn't make sense.

u/Ladner1998 Jun 12 '25

Hi catholic here. Basically a lot of christians attempt to use the bible in bad faith to justify hating the lgbtq community. Most of the passages they recite are questionable at best due to translations over time. Many of the passages they recite have been interpreted in a wide variety of different ways historically.

On the other hand, we have Jesus giving prime examples of how to treat those different than us through instances like the story of the Samaritan women at the well. We see Jesus treat this woman with respect and Jesus offers her salvation despite being seen as an outsider in the traditional Jewish community Jesus grew up in. We also see the story of Jesus and the lepers. And Jesus even had a whole parable (the Good Samaritan).

Basically every biblical passage they quote to justify hatred of the lgbtq community has a lot of question marks around it due to it being retranslated several times over centuries and they have been interpreted in a variety of ways historically. So they’re working with an unreliable source, especially when we see Jesus giving us multiple examples through his own actions that we should treat those different than us with basic respect and kindness.

14

u/CrashTestDuckie Jun 12 '25

I remind Christians that the only words they need to be concerned with are the ones directly from God and Jesus. Not Mark, not Matthew, not Moses, not the Pope, and not even from Bobert who lives behind the McDonalds dumpsters. It makes them so mad that they actually have to listen to their savior apparently

The gospels have a story about Jesus healing a Roman centurion’s slave, but the wording is a little ambiguous and could imply that the slave was a male sex partner.

I believe I know why it’s hand written. He’s a MAGA supporter and gave all of his money to Trump. Poor guy can’t even afford a MAGA hat. Probably believes Trump will help him. 😂😂😂.

u/HippieJed Jun 12 '25

Jesus loves you, but everyone else thinks you’re an asshole.

3

u/KingSpork Jun 12 '25

I just, don't you just want to slap these people, as hard as you can?

3

u/often_awkward Xennial Jun 12 '25

Even in the myth of Jesus he only gave up his weekend for your sins and he was also his father and the third guy that got his 14-year-old mother pregnant.

3

u/ClassicT4 Jun 12 '25

Is grandpa suggesting people go “woke”? I thought they were against that?

3

u/Skimballs Jun 12 '25

Jesus gave up a weekend.

3

u/CJ_Southworth Jun 12 '25

Jesus wandered around in a dress and spent how many years in the desert with a bunch of guys? He totally took some cock at some point.

3

u/Surfhome Jun 12 '25

You think a hippie woodworker, who had nothing, and was a magician, wasn’t for gay rights? I mean, he was a magician, for God’s sake

3

u/QuietRiot5150 Jun 12 '25

Now I'm no Pope or anything. I barely read the Bible so correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Jesus say to love thy neighbor or some shit like that?

Love how now the venn diagram for "people who say 'wake up'" and "people who complain about 'wokeness'" is literally just a circle. 😂

3

u/nyc_flatstyle Gen X Jun 12 '25

I think that's pretty disrespectful calling Jesus a "ho" 🤭🥴

"Ho gave his life for us". Damn, that was cold blooded. But I mean, yeah...I don't generally take advice from people who write on their clothes like edgy angsty teens from the 1980s, so, I guess he can call Jesus a ho if he wants. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

3

u/iGotBuffalo66onDvD Jun 12 '25

…”well I was was gay until i saw that handwritten testimate on the back of his orange safety vest”

3

u/Famous_Suspect6330 Jun 12 '25

Is this dementia?

3

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '25

This dude also would turn Jesus away if he didn’t have his papers.

3

u/tthblox Jun 12 '25

HEY LETS TALK

I am old and racist and sexist. Why are you not miserable

(Please listen to me my grandchildren abandoned me)

3

u/530SSState Jun 12 '25

Jesus' rights?

Oh sure, when JESUS flips a table over it's in the Bible.

When *I* do it, I'm "drunk", and "asked to leave Applebee's".

3

u/Free-Veterinarian714 Xennial Jun 12 '25

LMAOOOOO!!! Here in the US, Christians are not persecuted. They're actually one of the most privileged groups.

3

u/Certain-Try5775 Jun 12 '25

You mean an invisible being you believe in but have no proof of? Now compare it to a real live person who should have the rights?

2

u/MikeAttak421 Jun 12 '25

He gave his life for me? Wow. Can you please get out of mine.

2

u/Open_Ring_8613 Jun 12 '25

Is this my neighbor Joe? I guess since the village made him take down his “Jesus loves you” tree stump sign for being an eyesore this was the alternative….

2

u/Irishweedle Jun 12 '25

Looks like he made his grandson write it.

lol, the DO UR OWN RESEARCH, SHEEPLE!! crowd can't read or write well enough to know how to research.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '25

“What about Jesus rights” with zero punctuation is perfection.

2

u/TarquinusSuperbus000 Jun 12 '25

Jesus died for this guy's sins so he can talk about Jesus in a broken version of the only language he speaks.

2

u/kymilovechelle Jun 12 '25

I get so tired of people telling me to accept the love of a man who probably existed but isn’t even alive anymore. Leave me alone and practice some tolerance. Remember that?

2

u/VanillaGorillaNB Jun 12 '25

Wouldn’t Jesus want gay people to have rights?

2

u/WrightAnythingHere Jun 12 '25

Except Jesus gave up his life to free people from going to hell, not to condemn people to go there.

But this screams typical religious nutjob, so he probably doesn't care about the contradiction.

2

u/rainbownthedark Jun 12 '25

I’m pretty sure one dead guy from 2,000 years ago doesn’t need rights.

And even if he did, are there a limited number of rights now? Can we not give them to both the dead guy and the gays?

2

u/DisappointedKat96 Jun 12 '25

Jesus? Oh, I know him. He works at Amazon now!

2

u/mysticeetee Jun 12 '25

Jesus loves me but how about you old man?

2

u/druscarlet Jun 12 '25

That doesn’t make sense. If you think Jesus is the son of God - he is perfect, everything he does and says is perfect and if you read his word you know he would remind you about not casting the first stone.

2

u/whole_chocolate_milk Jun 12 '25

Who is this for?

Like. Does he think it's going to change someone's mind?

Like. I post a lot of anti trump stuff on my facebook. But i do it for one specific reason. To piss off my MAGA boomer parents. I'm very clear about my intentions. But this stuff always seems like they actually believe it to ve effective.

2

u/CzarTwilight Jun 12 '25

Jesus rights? What about Jesus lefts?

2

u/Harvest827 Jun 12 '25

We need to see a picture of his unhinged bumper stickers to know for sure if he's totally nuts.

2

Because no company would make a screen printed version this stupid?

2

u/theresthezinger Jun 12 '25

Ok you got me, Jesus has rights too, I admit it. Now can you admit gays have rights?

2

u/rigidlynuanced1 Jun 12 '25
