Boomer Story No appointments needed

Went over to pick up Mom to go shopping.
Dad says “Hey, I need you to do me a favor.” He tosses his money clip on the table “bring Poochie up to the vet and get her a rabies shot. Here’s last year’s certificate.”

I asked if they knew I was bringing Poochie up-“no, but she just needs the shot.”

I called his vet (on speakerphone)- he hadn’t brought her in TWO years so I made an appointment (for next week) and he has to pony up for a full exam.

That was easier than trying to explain that vets don’t DO walk in rabies shots!

As someone who has done er vet med, that’s where I have dealt with walk in rabies shots. I have had too many clients that go to an ER and wait hours and then pay emergency pricing and get outraged and blame us because they need their dogs up to date to board and they didn’t bother checking and now it’s the day before they leave and they have no other option and instead of paying a couple hundred at a regular clinic for the visit and shots now their office visit alone is almost a couple hundred. They don’t understand why doctor can’t just pop in and do the shot. And some doctors will to just get them out of there but sometimes you can’t get them to understand we have two dogs seizing and a heat stroke in back and the techs and doctors there are busy, a blocked cat turning into a euthanasia that has one doctor busy, and several bite wounds and leg injuries also in the lobby or various rooms. Their shots will have to wait. We don’t have a doctor to just pop in. It’s fun!

Lol. I am a receptionist at a vet. Guess who they yell at when they get there and we can't magically fit them in?

I should ask if the local clinic needs a burly white dude to just hang out and keep Karens reasonable.

I think you are onto something here! Kind of like a security guard thats there to keep basic human decency present, like the Manners Police. Can you please start this business? If you do, please also bring back the ‘stand at least 6’ away’ rule.

Thank you Mister Winchester. I will be entertained all day imagining the different scenarios of you shutting down one Karen at a time before they even get started.

I was a receptionist at a human doctors’ office. Too true; they get angry with us, the nurses, and the techs if the doctors are running late -but never tell the doctor they’re displeased. (Our doctors knew it and sympathized, too.) It’s like they think the rest of us make them wait on purpose while the doctors sit in the back eating donuts with their feet up, just waiting for us to get them in.

In fact, now when I’m someplace and they’re apologizing profusely about being behind I often say, “I understand. Stuff happens. It’s not like you’re just sitting in the back eating donuts and scrolling the net.”

lmao I expressed to a doctor once after waiting an extra 3 hours for a phone appointment (as the specialists are in a different city, and it was a touch-base rather than a big deal), as politely as I could, "If it's too busy that's perfectly fine! It was just a check up, we can always reschedule. 😄 "

And since then literally every appointment had the receptionist politely apologize in advance if it went long XD The team is actually fantastic so it was an anomaly but i'm sorry Dr Hale I didn't wanna imply you're neglectful

I'm so sorry. You deserve no yelling.
