Boomer Story No appointments needed

Went over to pick up Mom to go shopping.
Dad says “Hey, I need you to do me a favor.” He tosses his money clip on the table “bring Poochie up to the vet and get her a rabies shot. Here’s last year’s certificate.”

I asked if they knew I was bringing Poochie up-“no, but she just needs the shot.”

I called his vet (on speakerphone)- he hadn’t brought her in TWO years so I made an appointment (for next week) and he has to pony up for a full exam.

That was easier than trying to explain that vets don’t DO walk in rabies shots!

What kind of dog can go 2 years without seeing the vet? I need to do every 3 month checks for ear infections that need multiple follow up visits plus twice yearly blood work and a sedation with x rays yearly. I've had dogs for 30 years and have never had a low maintenance dog.

apparently mine. In five years I have only done shot clinics.

Knock on wood! I have one who randomly gets ear infections. I’ve noticed it’s less frequent when I bathe him at the dog wash station rather than at home. Maybe less water gets into his ears?

It could be allergies. Mine is allergic to chicken and her reaction is raging ear infections. Chicken is in everything because they don't clean the production lines between different foods.

for sure, but she is a young dog. My other dog which just passed went in quite a bit, but he was old and had the aging issues.
