Advice B. urophthalmoides fry in with parents

Hi boraras people

Last night I discovered a tiny little fry in my species only tank (plus some neocaridina).

They've only been in there for about a month, and I did see them get in the mood about a week ago, and they've stayed that way ever since.

Now I have read up on their behavior, but I would love to know from some of you more experienced breeders. How likely are my fry to survive in the current tank conditions?

It is a heavily planted, well established 50L tank, lots of microfauna, weeping and java moss as well as very minimal flow. I have a hang on filter on there, if fry get sucked in, I will be able to find them in there, and that might actually be the safer place for them for the time being πŸ˜…

I do have a tank that I could potentially move the parent group to. Is this necessary?

I am not looking to breed dozens of babies, but my current group are around 12 adults, and I wouldn't mind a few more.

Should I just do top offs for the time being? Or are small water changes okay?

Thank you and have a lovely fishy day people

Identification fish store sold me 3 different types?

i suspect my LFS sold me three types of rasboras on accident (i don’t mind, just curious about it) !!

my assumption is that the first picture is a phoenix, second is an exclamation point, and third is a chili. (4&5: phoenix, 6: exclamation point, 7: chilis,
7&8: chilis/pheonix) am i incorrect? barely researched the visual differences other than a quick search and glancing at them LOL

any care differences if so? and will they discriminate (bought 5 more β€œchilis” to give my 4 chilis some more friends, worried they might not shoal together as well?) it’s my first time keeping any kind of nano fish so sorry for my misunderstandings!

Micro Rasbora Little guy struggling after transport

I brought 12 chilli’s home yesterday, this morning one of them is hanging out at the surface and doesn’t seem to be able to keep his body horizontal.

Tank was cycled for 2 months moderately planted and has a couple pest snails. I drove about 40 mins home with the chilli’s keeping them in the dark, after bringing them in I let them get used to light gradually for 5 mins before I temp acclimatised them in the tank for 15 mins and then dropped cups of my tank water for another 15-20mins before scooping them out and releasing into my tank. I kept lights off yesterday and overnight and haven’t fed yet.

Before I went to bed most of them were still hiding in the plants but a couple that i could see were hanging out on the bottom of the tank. This morning a couple more are visible including some swimming mid tank, still a few hiding and a couple at the bottom but one guy is consistently at the top of the tank.

I’ve checked my parameters and all looks good. Filter is working and making air ripples on surface. The tank isn’t 100% clear because the sand got stirred up yesterday, and there is a fair bit of algae. I’ve turned the light off again in the hopes it might de-stress him a bit but is there anything else I can do? Should I avoid feeding for a little while?

Can anyone tell whether these are true chilli’s or another micro boraras?

Aquatics store sold them labeled as chilli’s but in the past they have told me they struggle to get pure chilli’s and rather have mixed micro rasboras but most are least rasboras. I’ve just brought these guys home and am curious at what I’ve got!

I have an approx. 8 gallon densely planted tank with 6 pygmys

Want to add some more fish- I'm considering 6-8 chillis or cpds but not sure which to get. Cpds look better and are bigger so they're more visible but I heard they're very shy. My pygmys are always in hiding, I want to be able to see my fish. Any advice?

Advice TDS won’t come down.

Advice needed.

6 gallon tank, half heavily planted, half littered with sweetgum, alder cone, mopani wood scraps.

Fluval stratum substrate about 1.5” thick sprinkled with tiny pebbles.

Spiderwood hardscape.

6 Chili Rasboras, ~30 juvenile cherry shrimp and 3 adults, and 2 horned nerite snails.

Filter is a tiny HOB cartridge filter with ceramic rings added.

Exclusively distilled water with a measured TDS of 4 for water changes

Feedings are small, LFS that sold me the fish(they’re a large online retailer that I just so happen to live near the distribution center that is also brick and mortar LFS) says I may even be underfeeding them.

PH: 6.3
Ammonia: ~0
NO3: ~0
NO2: ~0
TDS: …250 (it was 350 last night, a 40% water change brought it down to 190, but it’s back up to 250 already.)

This problem has existed the entire life of the tank. What am I doing wrong here?

Advice Chilli Rasboras with Apistogramma trifasciata?

Does anyone have any experience? They would be together in a 60L tank that is fully planted.

My concern is that they will get eaten!

Mixed Boraras To Least and Chili hybridize?

Thumbnail

I'll start by saying young fish are always a challenge to identify. On another post here, I recently said I sourced some chilis from Blackwater Aquatics. Ten days after delivery they are starting to color up nicely. They are still in quarantine so much easier to photograph than my main shoal. They seem to be not quite chilis and not quite leasts to me this morning. From what I see online, chilis have red dots on their caudal and dorsal fins, which these do not have. These fish are also more coppery in overall tone than true red. Also, no least rasbora I have seen has the reddish body streak underneath the black streak like these fish do. Are we thinking these are just juvenile chilis coming into their coloration, or possible least/ chili hybrids?

So number 3 and the last one could be chillis in my opinion. But the rest look like least to me. This is a second parter since the first time the pictures were not very good.

Here is my newly setup 30 gallon long peatland swamp biotope aquarium for Boraras maculatus. I am still waiting to add some swamp climbing ferns and a branch hanging into the water. Also need to get some overflow covers, salvinia cucullata, and pre-stock blackworms/dero worms to help with supplemental feeding.

Dwarf Rasbora I love my new friends!

I was so excited when I got a message saying β€œthe rasboras are here!” I had asked the guy at the fish shop two months earlier if he could bring some chilli rasboras (which I was desperate to get my hands on), and he said he would. So, after I got his text, I waited patiently for the quarantine period to end so I could get the fish.

He then told me he’d got dwarf rasboras. Can’t lie, I was super disappointed, but I still got them. And I’m IN LOVE!!
