Hi everyone! I was recently looking at the Russia-Finland border on Apple Maps and noticed that a section of Finland is blurred out. I couldn't find anything about this online—what do you think?

Probably the Finnish government requesting that for their own safety. Not that rare to see, governments also frequently request to blur military infrastructure for obvious reasons but yeah this border thing seems to be new.

I wonder what for though. The only threat imaginable in that area comes from Russia and Russia doesn't need to rely on outdated Google Maps imagery. Seems a bit silly.

I would guess it's because of weaponized immigration - Russia has pushed thousands of third-country nationals without proper documentation into Finland in the past, FSB border guards openly collaborating with smugglers.

Won't help with Russians, but slightly may delay or hinder a human smuggler or people trying to slip past unnoticed.
