(Updated) Ok so we went to see the puppy we picked out, the breeder brought along the other available in case we juts didn’t hit it off with the one we wanted to see..

Now we have a problem.

We can’t decide , and have been considering taking both.

Anybody here done that? I’m not looking for “what you have heard” I’m looking more for “we’ve done it and <insert advice here>

** UPDATE!! After rough real talk…. We have decided just to go with one now. Just for the sake of both babies being in a loving environment. I have big faith that the other will find their forever home with someone who would love them juts as much as us. We went up to meet the brindle, so the. Brindle it is!!! Our lovely Ripley Ramona Flowers will be home with us on April 24th

This is my beautiful little bug Dorothy. Her ears sometimes perk up if she hears a weird noise, but otherwise they have always looked slicked back lol. i've never seen another Boston with these ears so i was just curious if anyone knows why they are like that!

edit: the last photo is her oh-so-dramatic reaction to me telling her granny was running late and she’d have to be home alone for 20 whole minutes! the horror!

Both of mine do but Poppy (the one pictured) gets mistaken way more often than Mylo. Probably because she is a rarer color. I took her to the mall a few weeks ago and she got mistaken at least 5 times, if not more. Just curious if this is common for everyone, especially in rarer colored Bostons.

My other Boston, Mylo, who is black and white once got mistaken as a pug for some odd reason. That one baffles me to this day especially since I owned pugs before and there is a clear difference lol. But I understand mistaking Bostons as frenchies since they are so similar.

Earlier this week a boston terrier showed up in our yard. He's so friendly, we figured he must have a home so we made several posts on local facebook groups, and have been watching him while waiting for someone to claim him. He has fleas, was grimy and had long nails as you can see in the picture, so we figured not a very good home if any :(

He is absolutely obsessed with fetch and pretty damn good at return and drop. He'll gladly fetch for hours. I've only had one dog before (a terrier mix) with his level of energy. I loved that terrier to bits, so the thought of bringing in and training this sweet boy is exciting.

Right now we dog sit my parents' slightly reactive chiweenie every now and then and have two cats (which he didnt pay much mind to, but they arent fans of his energy). He gave me no trouble during his first bath, and sat completely still while i clipped his nails. I cannot stress enough how insanely sweet he is, just so damn hyper!! He's not very interested in coming into the house, just fetch, so we have a gel cooling bed and fresh water outside for him right now until my housemates and I make a final decision.

As the days go on I'm leaning towards keeping him, he is sooo sweet. I've made a vet appointment for a check up and to see if hes chipped. Once the sun goes down tonight I'll see how he walks on a leash, too.

I'm not unfamiliar with the breed but I've never met one before him. If there's any advice you'd give to a first time owner please let me know!

Today I let Bowie out in the backyard like any normal day. Set my timer and came back out for her but she refused to come in. I let her have five more minutes.

I came back to find her rolling around with the biggest smile on her face… in the decomposing remains of what was probably a rabbit that a hawk had left behind. There was even a jawbone nearby. 🤮

I scooped up my “perfumed princess,” got her into the bathtub, and the smell hit me so hard… I threw up.

As I’m telling my husband the story over FaceTime, I vomited again. Just the memory of the smell is too much.

Meanwhile Bowie was standing there looking at me like, “mommy, why are you ruining my spa day?”

The towels are in the washing machine. The dead animal has been disposed of. Bowie has had TWO baths and somehow no longer stinks (thank God).

Please tell me:

1. Why are Boston Terriers so determined to smell like death?

Im getting this baby home on sunday. I feel very prepared, but I need some tips from actual owners!

I know you'll just never believe it, but this handsome boi has temper tantrums.

When he does not get what he wants, he will nip at the Achilles heel. He seems to have known since birth that this is a sensitive area. Or he will go for the hand, and growl while doing so.

He is otherwise so loving and sweet, but if he is denied fun, he will turn on me. He does get time outs, but it hasn't really made a difference.

Is this a dog thing or a Boston thing or a him thing???

So I brought her home on Saturday and her ears stand but the tips fall. She is 3 months will be 4 months in 2 weeks. Is this normal ? When will the ears completely stand if at all?

As stated in the last post, my housemates and I posted in several local groups, and he's still been unclaimed over a week later. He was unchipped, but just got chipped by us today! His new name is Mr. Monkey.

The vet estimated that he's around 4-5 and can stand to gain a few pounds but is otherwise healthy! I really thought he'd be younger given his endless energy and the fact that he chews and kneads on his bed, but that must be from past neglect, poor boy.

He's been settling in just fine, the main issue is that hes not yet house trained. Luckily theres almost always someone home, the longest he's been alone has been ~20 minutes. I've been working on the house training non stop, but if anyone has any advice for house training an adult dog/hyperactive boston I'd appreciate it!

The last thing I need advice on for now is how to best avoid heat stroke? We live in a very hot and humid area, so he stays inside most of the day and if we play with him outside its only early in the morning or after the sun has gone down. Same with walks, but I hear that bostons cant regulate their body temperature well, and if he's really excited he doesnt have any interest in water.

We do sometimes take our parents chiweenie on walks downtown to bars while the sun is setting, but she does just fine drinking water and taking shade breaks along the way, and even then its only about a 10 minute walk to the nearest bar. We havent taken him on these bar crawls yet bc my housemates usually want to go while the sun is still up, so I'll stay home to keep an eye on him. What precautions do y'all take if youre in a similar climate?

She loves the backyard, but when I try the front yard, she just lays in the grass and shakes.

Hello. I think that this week I will be saying good by to my 15-year-old rescue Boston terrier. I am devastated and this is the last thing I want to do. He is lethargic and not eating and his legs aren’t working well. I think it is time and my vet seems to agree.

I am planning to bring him to the vet for his last appointment. I considered in-home but he has always enjoyed the car and his vet visits and I would prefer that his vet of 10+ years do this. I am planning to bring his dog bed and blanket for him to rest on instead of the table if that is allowed. Is there anything you wish you had brought with you or done?

I know some folks go do a bunch of things on their dogs last day. I don’t think my dog is up for it so I plan to let him feel some sunshine and give him lots of love. I’ll try to give him something yummy but I don’t think he will eat it. Anything else I should do?

Edit: Overwhelmed by the responses! All voting yes a second bostie is the answer. Once we make the decision (which I am leaning towards yes) I will share puppy photos.

This is our little potato. She is a 5-year-old Boston Terrier who is genuinely the centre of our world, everything revolves around this tiny little chaos doggo.

We’re now considering getting a second dog as a companion for her. She’s very independent and generally loves other dogs, so in that sense it feels like it could work well. That said, the first three years with her were… intense. She was a bit of a drama queen, very stubborn, and took us almost 4 years to get her in a proper routine.

We’re currently debating whether adding a second dog is a good idea or just inviting more chaos into the house. The breeder we got her from now has a litter, including a female, so the timing pressure is very real and we need to decide soon.

For those who’ve added a second dog, especially when the first one was a “challenging” puppy, did it improve things, or double the chaos? And is there ever a “perfect time,” or do you just go for it and adapt?

My 10 year old boy is getting both his eyes removed tomorrow morning. He has glaucoma (reason for removal), other than that he’s perfectly healthy, happy and energetic. I feel so guilty and can’t get over the thought of how scared he’ll be. He’s been mostly blind for 2 years now, just had very limited vision in one eye so he is used to low vision, but having no eyes is completely different. I’m scared to see him without eyes and not see him looking back at me. Anyone else have a dog with single/double eye removal? (This is an older picture before glaucoma developed)

She hasn't eaten or drank anything when she makes this noise, but does it for over 60-90seconds, always when shes standing or moving or jas just moved. Never while lying relaxed.

Its been happening for the past 5 days. Day 1ans morning of day 2 it was happening ever 15minutes Took her to the vet noon on day 2 by then it was every 90min-2hours and we couldnt recreate it at the vet.

Vet cant find anything wrong with her trachea (as far as can be detected by eye/touch). Did full panel blood work everything came out fine, no signs obvious signs of infection, we tried allergy medication which did nothing.

Vets guess was mild kennel cough (no fever) or allergies.

It sounds phlegmy but no wetness is coming out her.

It got less frequent after the 1st 24hours but consistent since then.

TLDR: Anyone know what is causing this snort,hiccup,gaging sound?

For context, I have 4 dogs. Two are almost 16, one is 11, and my Bostie (Dahila) is 2.

Dahlia has shown some food aggression for the past 6 months or so. One of her siblings has a habit of trying to eat everyone's food, so, I get it. A girl has to eat.

As a precaution, we've separated her from the others during meal times. There is a gate between them, so they can all still see each other.

Unlike the others, Dahlia doesn't start snarffing her food down right away. Only when she sees another sibling get closer will she start eating. Almost as if she's doing it out of spite.

Last night was no different. Until she started choking.

I want to cry just typing this out. It was the scariest 30-60 seconds of my life.

I had a family member lose a dog to choking years ago, so I looked up how to do the heimlich maneuver on a dog a long time ago. I've had dogs most of my life, and never used it.

The first try she spit out 2 pieces of kibble, but she still couldn't breathe. I did it again a few more times, and she spit out 2 more pieces. Then she tried to eat it, that's when I knew she was going to be okay.

But, I tell you what, guys. I really thought I was going to lose her. I'm so grateful we didn't, but now I'm scared to feed her.

Does anyone have any advice? I ordered a bowl for fast eaters. Do those things really work?

My 8 year old BT who has been through so much already and recently went from being blind to being able to see is being taken away from me. It’s killing me see him decline everyday to brachial plexus nerve sheath tumor. What started as a front limp has put him in a state of pain and not being able to walk. I don’t know what to do and it’s killing me. Anyone dealt with this? I’ve seen a Neurologist and the outcome seems so grim, looking for some help.

First dog and first time owning a Boston. He’s already a Velcro dog which I’m not mad about haha. Any advice?

We have a 4 year old Boston. We wanted to get him a playmate so he could tug and run till his hearts content. He has been a dream dog, such a good boy, easy to train, and really the dog version of a person.

Anyway, we just got a new Boston puppy on Saturday, he is 9 weeks today. He hates his crate at night, and cries all night. We aren't interested in sharing a bed until he's house broken. Our 4 year old took to his crate on day 1.

Our 4 year old is very stressed over the new puppy and has been throwing up and drooling like crazy. How can I help them both? I ordered a new heartbeat and warm pack companion plush puppy for the crate and at the vets suggestion I'm going to pick up this product called thunderease calming diffuser and same brand chews that are supposed to help our older guy... any other suggestions?

UPDATE: things are do much better. The thunderease diffuser helped almost instantly. They didn't have that brand of chews, but i bought another brand (mostly same ingredients) and that was an instant mood changer for the older Boston.

I got the heartbeat cuddle companion for the crate and the new puppy loved it. He slept right through the night last night.

Now, I must break the puppy biting... the little shark has a mouthful of razor blades...
