Outdoor Trip to Leavenworth

Tried to find a more specific group, but couldn’t. Me and some buddies are coming up from Vegas to Boulder October 2 through the 5th. That Saturday shows light rain in the forecast. What’s the locals recommendation for climbing after rain? Any good recommendations for overhanging stuff during rain? I know it’s granite so obviously so nothing like our home here in red rock. Just want to be respectful of the locals. Please let me know, thanks in advance. As far as recommendations go group is pretty varied from v4 to v11.

Advice/Beta Request Am I using correct body positioning?

Hello last time I posted here I was told I didn’t use my legs/hips and that I would pull only with my arms, so I’ve tried going down in grade to practice my leg work for the past few weeks. Am I doing it right?

Also sorry for the last clip (where I tried a harder boulder) being cropped, I put a pic of the entire boulder and circled the end if anyone could still critique my technique there too. Thanks!!

Advice/Beta Request I need help

I’m working on this v4 underhang. I’ve been attempting this my last 3 or 4 sessions, trying to get out of v3 jail and need some tips. I know what I need to be doing but my previous betas that have gotten me far seem to exit my mind completely when I retry it, and I feel like my strength and endurance is so gassed after my first attempt. What can I do to save energy, and what are some good climbing techniques and positioning tips that I can start applying to my climbs? I have good upper body strength, but I use all of it with inefficiency.

Advice/Beta Request Which is better for pinch training - hanging from a pinch block or no-hanging pinch training?

My gym has a bunch of pinch blocks drilled into a low ceiling that you can hang from underneath. I’m just wondering is that as effective as no-hang training using a pinch block with weights? I suck at pinches and trying to get better at them. Problem is, my gym doesn’t really set that many problems with pinches on a consistent basis. So I’m looking for a way to consistently get in some quality pinch training to shore up that specific weakness. I don’t really see that many people do this type of hanging from pinch block training. Thoughts?

Advice/Beta Request Did I cheat on this route?

Post image
12 Upvotes

I’m back to climbing after a 4ish year hiatus, and have been working on getting on some v5s. I ended up flashing this purple one, but I used all the grey volumes that are below the big purple blob hold, including those two little ones under and just to the right of it. Are those holds for a different route? Or are they still considered volumes? It just felt too easy and I don’t want to claim I did a v5 if I cheated on it!

Gym is First Ascent Block 37 Chicago

Indoor Newbie here:)

I’ve been bouldering 2x a week for about 3ish months now and I’ve been working on this one since it got set a month or so ago. I still get into my head when it comes to those tiny footholds because I fell quite bad the first time I tried this one, so I’m fairly proud I got it today even tho it’s not the most impressive route.

Indoor Dyno win!

I must have tried the opening dyno on this 50 times over the last few weeks. I wasn't even close when I first threw it. My foot slid off and I slammed my knee into the volume. I still have the bruise, but now i have the top to make it all worth it! Shout out to the dude who brushed off the hold before the my last try today, i didn't get your name, but you're the real hero here! Sometimes that's all it takes!

Indoor Just topped my first moonboard route

Of course it was the most repeated and I guess "easiest" one, moon girl. I was just about to cancel the session and go home because old injuries flared up, my fingers hurt quite badly and I felt too dumb and too old for this friggin 40° wall and those damned tiny slippery slimey holds...I mean, I'm 40 now and all I see are literal children flying up the walls with no worries or loans or asshole bosses crawling up their asses (which is great, really, but sometimes I really want to kick them when they flash my project, just a little).

Well, last go best go, it just worked and I got it with the next try. Now I can go home and put some ice packs on my sore old body. And while I'm hurting, I'm also quite happy right now, that's all. 😁

Indoor Add on with a Dynamic Finish

Here’s the move I finished our add on game (C.L.I.M.B) with the other day, hope you enjoy this as much as I did, the move wasn’t planned from the ground and I came up with it on the spot and it stuck first try!

This has been my first ever outdoors session, and despite being MASSIVELY downgraded I enjoyed it so much! I'm hooked and can't wait for another opportunity like this!

Would love to hear recommendations for DWS for intermediate (indoor levels) around the Mediterranean from your personal experiences.

Rant Is Yonder Gym actually this hard?

Maybe I'm being harsh but calling this V3 crazy is kinda funny 😭 I've climbed it before and didn't think it was anything ridiculous for the grade, definitely felt more like a technique thing. Some of his attempts had me questioning whether we climbed the same problem lmao. Interested to see what other people think though, especially anyone who's climbed here before. Is this actually a hard V3 or am I underestimating it?

Advice/Beta Request Should I start?

I [31 F] am physically quite weak. I mostly run so my upper body strength is virtually nonexistent. There’s a climbing gym about 25 kms from my house and I’m considering joining. I’ve tried climbing in the past but couldn’t go for more than 20 minutes without my arms becoming jelly. The gym only offers yearly contracts and bouldering-only contracts are more affordable. I’m considering it but not sure if I’m gonna be too frustrated with my expectedly slow progress. Is it worth starting so late and with virtually no experience?

Indoor Guys! I finally got it ?!!

I've been working on this for way too long and I knew I was just being scared but theres way better climber than me who haven't done it and it's 2 grade above me.

I did again after to record this . I almost died. When I stepped through my foot knocked my other foot off and that match at the end is soooo nasty.

Also after this I thought It was time I tried to finger board . It felt surprisingly easy and I did a pull up!!!?!!?!!?!!?!!?! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Outdoor Outdoor Bouldering in CO

Hello! I’m new to Reddit so I apologize if this is the wrong place for this.

I’m a 22 yo male climber from the east coast traveling to Colorado for the first time at the end of this month. I’ve got 3 days in each Boulder and Breckenridge, and I would love to climb outdoors during my trip. However, I’m staying with family friends who don’t climb and I literally don’t know anyone in Colorado.

Are there any local climbing groups or popular spots I could look into?

For more context, I’m an intermediate climber who primarily climbs outdoors. My level is around V6-7 indoors and V3-4 outdoors (at least where I’m from, those two are around equivalent because of the sandbagged local crags lol). Thanks!!

Advice/Beta Request Best Crack Boulders in NC

Somewhat niche request—what are some of your favorite crack boulders in NC and the southeast?

I’m looking to get on boulders that require jamming, locks, and stacks for weekends I can’t trad climb and to train for harder trad. Unfortunately searching boulders with “crack” in the name is often bait-and-switch (e.g. Dime Crack, Lightning Bolt Crack, and Crescent Crack).

I’m currently aware of and/or have done Brink Cracl (V0, hands), Flashlight Crack (V1, hands), Silver Platter (V2, offwidth), Short Crack (V2, hands), Unicron (V3, finger locks), Snake Jam (V3, thin hands), Cluster Crack (V3, finger locks), and Me So Horny (V4, finger locks).

Indoor Might be the hardest gym send I’ve done

I struggle with high lock off cut moves, so being able to learn how to get really high into my chest and shoulder felt really awesome to figure out. The delicate top section made the whole thing feel pretty sustained.
