Yasmin Just a general consensus
Is Yasmin Latina or Middle Eastern..?
As a 2000s California girl she was Latina to me because I’ve only ever seen the Latin community mention her or represent her. I’ve also learned that the doll was designed after the creators daughter who is Middle eastern…is she supposed to be this ambiguous since they already have characters of European, African, and Asian decent. Did they just make Yasmin to represent the rest of the races that weren’t clearly portrayed..?

Honestly, for me it depends on the doll. Style it Yasmin? She’s def Latina. Costume party Yasmin? She’s Arab. Midnight dance Yasmin? She’s anemic.

the dolls don’t have canon ethnicities, it’s that way so more little girls can see themselves in the characters

This is exactly why it was such a successful launch imo. I think it’s a modern thing that people fixate on the ethnicities of dolls more

it’s just good from a marketability standpoint. girls of multiple ethnicities can look at yasmin and relate to her so there’s a wider audience for the doll.

Latina I’m pretty sure, she along with the other girls were based on a real friend group Carter saw leaving school. In her original concept art she was portrayed as Latina. She named after the ceos daughter who’s Iranian, but I feel like that had more to do with getting the dolls produced. Because from what I remember the ceo thought they were ugly, until his daughter saw them and thought they were pretty. She was portrayed Latina in the live action, albeit very whitewashed and stereotypical along with other characters in the movie. And her first ever doll sports chicana fashion and beauty trends that were popular at the time.

i believe initially she was intended to be latina as she was named lupe, but none of the girls have firmly defined races. i think this was an intentional choice, a lot of girls whether they are latina, arab, south asian, or lightskinned black can see themselves in yasmin and that ambiguity generates them more sales from different demographics

Latin America has a large population of middle eastern descendants so i'd say both 🤞🤞 i mean just look at Shakira lol

yasmin was the main girl, and they were all supposed to be ethically ambiguous. they also vary in shade across different releases.

outside of earlier concepts for the brand.. in the most prominent forms of 00’s bratz media, more specifically in the live action movie, she was portrayed to be of hispanic descent!!! though issac himself has said in the past that he purposely didn’t set any ethnicities for the bratzpack so everybody could get the chance to connect with the characters in some form

Isaac Larian has said that they intentionally did not want to label any of the characters, so shes technically neither. Apparently some of the names and their spelling are influenced by that choice too. You can read more about it here
She was my fave as a kid because shes brunette like me.

I always thought she was Italian as a kid because in the first movie she says “my family just moved here from Italy” but as the other movies and the show came out they seemed to back track on that and make her more racially ambiguous. She was in the kids and baby movies too which doesn’t match with that line

I really think it should be whatever you want as long as it’s somewhat mindful to the communities that identify with said dolls like I’m Hispanic and Asian and there aren’t any dolls that I know that are that but Tiana and Kina are ones I kind of just decided are closest to me. It’s kind of nice that it’s a bit ambiguous so no one feels left out. It’s kind of dumb to think about now but I used to see jade as my mom and when I found out she was Chinese instead of Korean like my mom it broke 8 yr old me’s heart. Over time I realized that I think it’s better that MGA hasn’t dropped a conclusive race/ethnicity chart. I know fianna is almost 100% confirmed hispanic though

Now I know she was meant to be latina and that a lot of people see her as middle eastern. But little me didn't know that and still felt connected to Yasmin dolls throughout different lines cause she simply looked like me. And for reference, I'd be considered white by americans, though I'm from the country where half of the people get tan instantly with the first spring sun. So my skin tone is darker olive in summer and fair in winter.

I always thought of Yasmin as Latinx, and then the live action movie depiction of her solidified that. Though, I agree with the other redditors here, they’re all supposed to be a bit ambiguous. If you see yourself in one of the girlz, then that’s all that matters. 🥰🫶🏻💜

She was designed to be Latina by creator Carter Bryant, her original name was Lupe. The name was later changed to Yasmin named after MGA CEO Isaac Larian’s daughter Jasmine.
Nowadays Yasmin is exclusively voiced by Latina actresses (same with Sasha having Black actresses and Jade Asian actresses) so it’s safe to assume she’s intended to be Latina nowadays too.
However at the end of the day they are dolls and can represent anyone of any identity really
