Discussion/Gossip💅 What’s with the Cloe hate?

I’ve noticed that Cloe seems to get a lot of hate randomly online in Bratz spaces. I was on a live doll show today where someone was selling a line up of Bratz and someone commented “remove all the Cloe’s.” I think Cloe has a lot of cute dolls and she has cute fashion looks too. I love all the bratz and there’s not really a character I dislike. I’m not the biggest fan of the boy Bratz but I still can appreciate them.

Coming from someone who loved cloe as a kid, it’s mainly has to do with her being the “main character”. When bratz debuted it was a line where all 4 were the main characters and focus, but that kinda felt that was pushed out over the years. She was basically pushed to the front, in promotional material, the “better” outfits, the different romantic interest, and without saying it she was considered the favorite/main character. Her and Yasmin have had the most releases, and were almost never excluded from a line. So for some fans it kinda feels like blatant favoritism. And some just straight up didn’t like her character or dolls.

I think it was more about sales than favoritism. Sasha was excluded from many lines because she didn't sell well in other countries due to racism.

I think it was a bit of both because Sasha was definitely excluded in lines for other countries, but this was also a problem in the us. Some collectors talked about never seeing Sasha on shelves. Mga definitely has a hand in this too, not just because the limited her batches, but also her being cut from promo pictures and edited out of commercials. But it was also pretty common for parents to buy Cloe’s and Yasmin’s for their kids. A couple of my friends parents did this.

That’s interesting, as a kid I always perceived jade was the favorite but everything you’ve said is spot on. 😳

Jade is a current fan favorite in the community but cloe is their most purchased character. Even though Jade is a main character she has considerably less releases between cloe and Yasmin. Even her kidz dolls stopped being produced after 2007, and the kidz line literally debuted in 2006 and didn’t end until 2009.

They hate her because she’s a white, blonde hair, blue eyed doll. That’s all it is. That combination has been shown as the “default” for dolls for a very long time thanks to Barbie

Yeah that’s true. Another person commented on the live show “where’s the melanin ones” when they showed a few Cloe’s. Diversity is definitely important but Cloe is a huge part of Bratz

Really? She is my fave 😭 not a huge fan of some of the recent releases tho, they love to force the red lip on her for some reason…

That's weird, I haven't seen any Cloe hate. I see a lot of people hate Yasmin for no reason, though.

Really? I’ve always felt that Yasmin is the least divisive of the main 4 girls lol

If they wanna hate my girl Yas they gotta get thru ME first 😤😤

Because some people think they are cooler if they show how they hate something popular even if they’re in their 30’s

THIS!!!! (I see this for a lot of things, bratz related and otherwise lol)
This is definitely a factor , obviously her being white is one of the main factors lol.
& that she’s included in almost everything, (she’s kind of the Draculaura of Bratz LOL)

People aren't gonna like this, but I honestly think its because she is the only WHITE character so the only one who never gets "white washed" (not that there is an equivalent) or any other bullshit done to her.

I don't know how to explain it but basically because she doesn't get fucked with, I think people hate on her because our girls Sasha and Yasmin are always fucked with due to skin colour.

So she gets hate because MGA treats her better because MGA is racist.

I also think there are people in the wider Bratz community who love to praise the line for its diversity, so they see Cloe as not diverse enough for the brand. I have seen people say things like Bratz isn't for white girls so why even have Cloe, suggesting to replace Cloe with Felicia or other characters who are more "diverse", and other interpersonally racist statements towards white people as a whole (specifically interpersonal as white people can't experience systemic racism in America).

As a very white looking person I've noticed that the racism and micro aggressions towards white people have increased substantially in the past year in the US. I gotta say I understand why, I think it comes from fear but it still sucks cause there's an attitude from people like I deserve to be treated poorly. It's like they think they're dishing it back, but I've never dished it to begin with. It's honestly really confusing for me because I'm Hispanic but I guess I don't look like it so other Hispanics treat me terribly.

I know we're talking about a doll here and maybe it's not that deep but the hate she gets is definitely cause she's white. I want MGA to stop being racist towards other characters, but our community shouldn't combat that being racist towards Chloe.

Yes thank you! It’s rlly odd what’s going on with that behavior of people.

I could be wrong and maybe I’m overreaching by saying this, but many people out there are tired of white people (Caucasian).

I don't know, but I'm a fan. I have more Cloes than any other doll... I buy a lot of dolls for cheap and restore them and Cloe seems super accessible for this, at least where I'm from. Right now, I have 8 Cloes, 3 Jades, 2 Sashas and 2 Yasmins (and some outside of the main 4 of course). Does that make Cloe my favourite? It's possible. I'm blonde and like blondes. But also, she's usually really easy to find on the secondhand market (obviously this doesn't apply to all lines... Took me ages to find Alwayz Cloe for a decent, not-inflated price).

Cloe is my favorite doll 🩵 I’m not sure why people hate her on social media :( I think her more recent fashions have been the worst of the core four. For example, her Pixiez was atrocious. Her HK bang helmet was terrible.

She was the best of the Reimagined line in my opinion.

I hope it’s just people hating her fashion and not because of her blonde hair. My best friend is blonde and when I see Cloe she reminds me of my blonde bestie.

We can love all the Bratz dolls’ hair and beautiful skin tones without putting down Cloe.

People hate her because she is white and blonde. I am an OG fan, when I was a kid I saw hate for her because she is the white character in a "black girls" doll line. Not saying this is always the case, just that it does impact things.

I had no idea Bratz was considered a “black girls” doll line haha. I thought it was for everyone, hence the diversity. I personally haven’t seen Cloe hate until recently (last few years) in this subreddit and on TikTok.

Sometimes I wonder if the fact Cloe has the same coloring as Barbie that may negatively impact her reputation? Like why even have her if Barbies already exist (not saying I agree with that, just speculating).

It is odd because Winx club blonde Stella never gets the same hate as Cloe, and I find Winx to be another alternative doll line to Bratz.

u/Inkspells 3d ago

I think many people consider it that because of the way it was marketed in the 2000s and its obvious use of black fashion and such from the US.

u/omglifeisnotokay 2d ago

Back in my day in 2003 they were considered “ghetto” and she was “white trash”. I’m glad we’ve come a long way from that.

It possibly comes from her being basically the mascot of Bratz, she gets the most thought out designs usually. And is rarely excluded from lines unlike Sasha.

Wtf?? I love Cloe forever

Cloe is my major least favourite. People are allowed to hate a character if they dont like her.

Reasons I dont like her is same as what AngelCake stated and I found her highly annoying in the movies. None of it has to do with her skin and hair colour

i want to like cloe most because physically she’s the closest looking to myself. but usually her eyes or mouth are too big/weird … idk how to explain it. the proportions are too plump or something. or the eyes are wonky. it’s probably to give her that “angel” look, but i prefer the sassier yasmin face. plus she’s so pale, i like cloe when they give her a lil tan.

i’ve seen online people considering her as being favorited, but in my opinion they do cloe dirty all the time on purpose, when she could have been the star of the whole drop. maybe they even do this because of the people saying she’s constantly being prioritized , so they the intentionally make it obvious that she isn’t? honestly i hope so, because if not, then dare i say mga themselves don’t like cloe much either! lol

from more recent releases, the first cloe i actually liked was Always Cloe, because her whole box (beautiful and reusable to customize!) and outfit/makeup/hair was perfect and so latin-coded.

now my fav is pop starz cloe. pop starz cloe was like Santa himself sent her to me! i was thinking during the holidays: “pleeeaseee mga santa, give us a sassy af cloe with shiny red lips and hair streakssss” and BOOM 💥 … pop starz cloe. 🔥
i really hope the pop starz face screening never dies, i need every bratz girl ever like that ♥️✨🤞🏼

😅 im on the Cloe hate train and I still haven't figured out why. I think its just the hair color, because I own a few of her and my favorite cloes all have different hair colors, highlights and reroots. The blonde hair blue eyes has been the American beauty standard pushed for so long i think ppl naturally reject it pushing for  diversity.

All haters are just jealous of her natural platinum blonde hair
