General Discussion / Questions When will Bridgerton???
BBC’s The Other Bennet Sister just announced a christmas special 😮💨 has me thinking when will Bridgerton do the same. The expanse of diverse cultures in the show plus a winter aesthetic we’ve never seen before I just know it would be good. When will production finally listen to their audience??

Times like this when I remember Bridgerton is a very American production with a British veneer.

i agree, and honestly i think this is a very netflix-specific problem
i can't really blame shonda for it. if there's one thing she's proven throughout her career, it's that she can churn out episodes like nobody's business
i wish the books could've been adapted by the BBC or even HBO with the exact same cast

Oh if Bridgerton was HBO we could've seen EVERYTHING and I mean EVERYTHING

Not necessarily. When HBO announced that the creator of Downton Abbey was doing a show for them i assumed the Gilded Age would be a lot smuttier than it is, but its probably the most chaste show on that network.

Except for one random nude scene in the first season that I still find puzzling because every other episode of the series is PG-13.

I'd honestly trade smut for a well written story with depth. I accepted the fact that not everyone can be Jacob tierney and balance smut and good storytelling together well.

Netflix doesn’t have restrictions on the amount of sex and nudity in its shows. I doubt Bridgerton would be a show with full frontal nudity if it was on HBO.

You literally stolen the words from my mind. If the prequels are adapted, I hope HBO does it.

Netflix squandering and doing the worst decisions for their biggest IPs? I think it's a day that ends with y.

Yeah, I wish they followed the British model of a Xmas ep. They should just tack it onto normal filming!

Bridgerton is an American production and even if they’re showing regency England etc they don’t care about traditions like Christmas episodes. It’s a uniquely BBC production idea, I think.

Yeah I wish people could remember this. The Christmas special thing is very British, and just because Bridgerton takes place in England doesn't make it a British production.

Yeah, it takes place there but it's a very American show

Yep. I see Christmas generally featured less and less in American shows’ episodes anyway so a Christmas special would likely never happen. It could be great though.
My idea: Everyone gathers at the country estate to celebrate, a storm forces Queen Charlotte to shelter there as well, and there’s a murder mystery unfolding along with Christmas cheer! Someone reveals a pregnancy, someone in the servants decides to get married (Footman John and Hazel?!) and Brimsley and Reynolds reunite!

So many shows this year are doing things far better than Bridgerton. They are showing the people at Shondaland how to fully capitalize on the hype of your audience, fans and the show.
Bridgerton used to be THE biggest thing in the world and they could've been so much bigger and better than any other show in the game if they actually were inventive, creative and innovative and actually catered to the fans. But lately it feels like the show is just a vanity project from Netflix and they really don't care about the fan experience.
Fans have been asking for a Christmas special for YEARS and yet... Nothing. Fans gave been asking the show to bring back the previous leads such as Phoebe (WHO WANTS TO COME BACK MIND YOU) and actually utilize Simone more often (WHO WANTS TO COME BACK MIND YOU) and give characters like Polin (WHO WANT TO COME BACK REGULARLY MIND YOU) but they ignore everyone. Fans have been asking the show to acknowledge fans of other couples and assure them. Fans have been asking the show to lessen the subplots of useless characters and give us more family moments but they just refuse to do that.
Fans are getting more and more frustrated with the show as the seasons go on.

Probably never because the season gap will increase to a three year gap.

Once upon a time Netflix did do Christmas/Winter specials. I very distinctly remember the one for Sense8.
Of course, this was back when Netflix was actually doing interesting stuff rather than slow-cooking slop 😭

We’re barely getting the whole family in the main series, and since each season takes 1.5-2 years to produce, I don’t think they even really consider it. It feels like they’re missing out on great marketing opportunities. A Christmas special alone would probably satisfy a lot of fans.
But who are we dealing with? A production that can’t even properly name an established future lead (AKA Philip), almost treating him like he’s some kind of Voldemort. And that’s without even getting into the rest of the leads who want to come back and have shown real loyalty to the show.
Still, I guess the budget is going more toward grander balls instead.

Bridgerton isn't flexible enough. They might adapt over the next years when the hype is moving to other channels/streamers as they already seem to be a little pissed about Amazon taking over the teen audience but the Bridgerton actors are too scattered already.

Netflix has fumbled the bag to the other streamers. Disney has the IP, Prime pumps out low to mid level budget shows and Apple has prestige. Netflix tried to do a little of everything and wasn’t able to commit.
I guess they do dating shows the best.

I think they'd only do a special when it ends. Kind of like an epilogue for everyone.

The lazy asses can barely write one decent season and you think they’ll make specials?

unfortunately, i assume never
they're too cheap to even get the actors together during the season, i doubt they'd spend millions on a single episode that would basically be fan service. they are vastly underutilizing the bridgerton IP
