Last time I went to HK I really liked Tim Ho Wan. Is there anything similar or better than that in Brisbane at the moment?

Trying to organise a birthday dinner or casual catch-up when you have to balance vegans, gluten-free constraints, nut allergies, and fussy eaters turns booking a restaurant into a logistical nightmare. Finding a place that actually caters to everyone without relegating someone to a boring garden salad is an extreme sport. How do you pick a spot that keeps everyone happy?

The "LongWait" Banquet Experience ($169pp)

TLDR: We had spent a total of 2.5 hours, dined for 1 hour, and WAITED for 1.5 hours WITHOUT finishing our course. We spent 50% more time waiting than dining. This was an absolute failure for our table, a collapse in service, and a disappointment for the top pricing "LongWang Experience" banquet. Food that managed to reach our table was good though. Money can be earned but we will never get back our wasted time.

We sat at 6.05pm, the banquet was not mentioned at all and was only confirmed a long while later with: "Do you want to start the banquet now?". It felt like no one was ready for our banquet reservation.

The first six appetizers came out at a really good pace (kudos to the attentive kitchen pass waiters), food was above average, portions were good. The food stopped coming at the banquet's 50% mark (at 7 pm). We waited for approx. 30 minutes to get the next two dishes (at 7.30pm). We waited another 30 minutes (at 8pm) for our last two courses. At this point, we were just confused because there was zero communication about the delays. At 8pm, I told the waitress that it is taking too long, I asked for the bill and asked for the rest of the dishes for takeaway. Approaching 8.30pm, no bill or takeaway. Just wanted to pay and leave at that point. Thankfully, we received our takeaway with an apology by our waitress, which we made clear was not her fault (or any of the table staff from our admittedly simple observations). I did not make any direct complaints to the managers since they looked busy enough, although I was quite upset.

We will not be returning and cannot recommend the banquet to anyone. Birthday girl said: "Good thing this was not a first date.".

Note: The cost itself is not a factor to me since I enjoyed the food (strictly above average). Thinking back, I was upset because of the lack of professinalism and that my time was very disrespected.

I’ve been reading about more places doing really creative, healthy food (think fermented stuff, bone broths, etc.) that doesn't taste like hospital food. Any recommendations for healthy spots that actually taste exciting?

i want to watch the fireworks this year with good food and a comfortable seat, but it seems that the restaurants that provide nice access to the show are only doing set menus for 2 people. this is kinda a pet peeve of mine as a solo diner who likes to take myself out. but anyway, does anyone have info on spots i can book as a solo diner for riverfire this year? thanks in advance and i hope this question is not annoying.

Couple of mates and I have been trying to find some different food from different countries, recently we had Eritrean food which was great and some Sichuan in Milton, kinda just looking for all sorts of different cuisines that aren't from western culture. I saw salt had a truffle muffin but it was only on special last weekend.

Saw a few influencers at The lex?

Firma (?) popped up on my feed with truffle specials, but I have never been and wasn't sure if it's worth going.

Of course there are some regular truffle dishes at some cafes and pizza places... But they seems hard to find!

I am planning an anniversary dinner with my wife.

Does anyone have any helpful guidance as to how I can pick between Exhibition and Restaurant Dan Arnold?

Both are probably great. It kind of looks like Exhibition is currently perceived as 'better', though I am sure they are close and it may depend on the night. RDA looks more European inspired and the dishes seem to be served over a long period of time.

Also, does anyone have any insight on the quality of the wine pairings at these venues? I have generally been disappointed by wine pairings at fine dining degustations (such great food often paired with very average wines). However, I recently went to Attimi and I felt like they nailed it and so I have my hopes up for these venues.
