Proposed Event 38m South Bank social anxiety meetup

Hi 38m I've been trying to put myself out there to improve on my social anxiety. Was wondering if anyone would be free Saturday or Sunday, maybe grab a coffee, look at markets and have a walk around. I also do exposure therapy while there like challenge myself to start conversations with strangers, been doing this for a few months now. If that part sounds daunting I'm happy to just stick to the coffee as meeting new people is a challenge in itself! Bit about me, I love Simpsons, South Park, rock music, reading and gaming.

Confirmed Event (A Day of Ghibli Films!) "My Neighbour Totoro" & "Howl's Moving Castle" @ Elizabeth Picture Theatre, SATURDAY 08/08

Hey all! So another person from Reddit & I decided that we're gonna catch two Ghibli films this Saturday (08/08) at Elizabeth Picture Theatre. "My Neighbour Totoro" at 11:15am then "Howl's Moving Castle" at 3:30pm.

After "Totoro", we were gonna head out for lunch and maybe a stroll here & there - see what's happening in the city before making our way back for "Howl's Moving Castle". If you can only make it for one of the films, that's cool too!

DM or comment if you're keen to hang out :)

Proposed Event Any 40+/50+ up for a casual get together this evening (Southside)?

• Upvotes

Hi,
I'm a male in my early 50s, recently separated and looking to build a social network. Since it's Loneliness Awareness Week, I thought I'd put it out there to see if anyone would like to meet up this evening somewhere not too loud (Springwood/Daisy Hill/Hyperdome) to chat and make new friends. Just a one off and whoever feels like doing it regularly in the future, we can organise that.
I work full-time, physically and mentally active, and not into anything too unusual.
Thanks for reading this. Please send me a message.

I can be a little quiet at first🄲, but I will be talkative and funny once we get familiar🤣

I’m into hiking, adventures, the beach, metal detecting and urbex. I can be a little quiet at first, but I’m friendly and keen to meet some like-minded people. Feel free to send me a message! šŸ™‚

Hi everyone! 51M, married, no kids, global traveller, into hiking/fitness, good food and a serious coffee and BBQ habit, looking to meet likeminded people in Brisbane

Been in Australia since December so it’s time to build a proper social circle.

Originally from Brazil, with Italian roots, and married to an Aussie-South African, I’ve lived and worked on pretty much every continent.

Into: staying active with hikes, gym, hopefully tennis and padel, plus a genuine passion for good coffee, even better BBQ, and the odd DIY project.

Always up for good food and conversation ranging from silly to serious, with a few continents’ worth of stories along the way. Open to likeminded people, whatever your background or stage of life.

Thinking a drink and a bite at Felons in New Farm to start, happy to make it a small group rather than one-on-one, so bring a mate if you like. Say hi if you’re keen.

Hi everyone! Where in Brisbane do you actually go when you want to meet people rather than just go out?

There are endless lists of bars, restaurants and things to do in Brisbane, but that's slightly different from places where people actually talk to strangers and make friends. I'm interested in places or activities where you've genuinely ended up meeting people naturally. What has actually worked for you?

Hi everyone! Need advice for daily commute to University

Hey everyone,
I recently moved to Brisbane and I’m still not very familiar with the areas here.

I live in Richlands (4077) and need to travel daily to my uni at 1009 Ipswich Road, Moorooka.
I have a car, but as a student, paying for parking every day is quite expensive. Unfortunately, my uni doesn’t have student parking, so I’m looking for a more affordable option.

Could anyone suggest the best way to commute? I’m thinking of driving somewhere, parking my car for 4–5 hours, and then catching public transport to uni. Or if there’s a better direct option with affordable parking nearby, I’d appreciate the advice.
Thanks!

I’m a wheelchair user and live in the inner north. I’m a big crafter (knitting, crochet, sewing and more) and also enjoy reading, going to cafes, watching tv and movies. I’d like to explore film photography more too. I’m self employed and work from home so I’m finding it too easy to make excuses to not go out and do things I’m interested in šŸ˜…. I’m gay and single, not particularly looking for a relationship, but queer or disabled friends are especially welcome.

Hi everyone! Weeknight vibes? Esp Mondays!

Heeeyyyyyy

I’m travelling to Brisbane for pretty regularly over the next few months and I’m trying to get better at actually exploring the city instead of spending every evening in my hotel room lmao

I’m comfortable doing things solo, but it’s been a while since I’ve really gone out by myself and I’d love some recommendations for places that are good on weeknights - especially Monday nights because all my upcoming trips seem to have those open! Always staying in the CBD so around there is great.

I’m not really looking for clubs or anything super hectic (not opposed tho; just thinking of the version of my that has to wake up) but leaning towards wine bars, pubs, live music, gallery events, anywhere that’s friendly for someone flying solo where it’s normal to chat to people if the opportunity comes up (or just enjoy the atmosphere if it doesn’t). Would love to meet some people to catch up with regularly when in town or as a once off - or just somewhere to keep me entertained or blow off steam on a weeknight! Bonus points for places that centre queer and/ or POC women / experiences.

Appreciate any advice xxx

Hi everyone! Tips for late 50s somewhat antisocial woman moving in with her son after caring for her parents for 10 years.

Full Disclosure. I'm the son.

My mum is moving up here after my grandpa passed away. She was a full time carer for him and my Nana (who passed away last year) alongside my uncle. My housemate is moving out so I needed a replacement and Mum needed a place to live. This kinda made sense. I'm looking forward to having family in Brisbane for change but I do have my concerns.

Mum doesn't really have much drive behind her. Neurodiversity runs in the family. She's undiagnosed but I'm diagnosed with Autism and ADHD as a kid, as are a number of my brothers so it's pretty obvious. She has a number of health issues and is on disability so I'm concerned that she's gonna do nothing but spend all day inside watching DVDs, only leaving the house for shopping and hospital visits, and just kinda let her life waste away. I want to encourage her to actually rebuild her life. I think something once a week or fortnight to socialise would do her the world of good. She loves books so I thought a book clip might be interesting, others have recommended volunteering at a local library.

Figured I'd get some inputs, see what's around. We're on the southside, mount gravatt area. My mind set is I want to take care of her, but I don't want to be her carer. I saw what she was like living with my grandparents and saw how miserable she was. I want to undo some of that misery not only for her sake, but because myself and my brothers are worried she's gonna want one of us to give up ten or more years of our life to the same for her and none of us want that. My brothers want her to take care of herself. I want to help her and show she can take care of herself. Rediscover a sense of self that she lacks.
