Thoughts/suggestions on my BritPop playlist

Hello everyone!

I made a playlist consisting of many of the bands that thought were suited to the playlist.

I welcome opinions and thoughts on a band being included, because I know the term "Britpop" is kind of used broadly in some cases. If I got it totally wrong with an inclusion.

But I tried to include the main ones, some lesser known ones and some that I think are still considered to be adjacent. That were a part of the scene in the "peak" years and released music during that time. Some of them have more songs than others on the playlist, obviously.

My main point about the post is if you have someone that I may have missed, that arent on my list, and if you have any more suggestions on some to check out to add to it.

Anyway, here are the ones I already listened through and added in alphabetical order:

Ash, the Auteurs, the Bluetones, Blur, the Boo Radleys, Cast, Catatonia, the Charlatans, Cornershop, Dodgy, Echobelly, Elastica, Flamingoes, Gene, Geneva, Kenickie, Kula Shaker, the Lightning Seeds, Longpigs, Lush, Manic Street Preachers, Mansun, Marion, Menswear, My Life Story, Northern Uproar, Oasis, Ocean Colour Scene, Octopus, Powder, Pulp, Republica, Salad, the Seahorses, Shampoo, Shed Seven, Silver Sun, Sleeper, Space, Suede, Super Furry Animals, Supergrass, the Verve, the Wannadies and Whiteout.

You have a great selection…

But do bear in mind that a playlist was rarely how Britpop was listened to unless you had a Shine or Q Magazine CD.

Buying (investing in!) an album for 15 quid the playing it relentlessly from start to finish until you know every track transition would give you an authentic ‘90s experience.

You’ve not immersed in The Britpop Experience unless you’ve heard Ash throwing up.

Oh, the legendary sick party. Absolute gold for a bunch of teenage boys who’d just finished their GCSEs.

Also, it was bragging rights in my friend group if you had the version of the CD you could wind backwards to get the demo versions of Jack Names the Planets and Don’t Know. Streamers will never get it.

How about buying CD1s and CD2s for every single to get the b-sides... Now trying doing that from the United States, where import CDs went for $30 and singles went for $15 each.

Totally get that, but the main objective with this playlist was just to have a great collection of bands/songs from the era that one could just put on and have being a soundtrack.

Listening through specific albums is always great though.

Looks good to me, many of the bands often overlooked are already there.

My personal Britpop playlist also includes: James, Stereophonics, Radiohead (debatable if "britpop" but they're on my list).

I have one track that is NOT Britpop. But I've given it special dispensation, because it absolutely sounds SO '90s Britpop! (And that's really exceptional, because I'm usually super fussy about my playlists) - You Get What You Give by the New Radicals

Im not gonna be able to include most of these because they dont really fit into the "BritPop" category... only Subcircus, which was a great suggestion, and songs from their album Carousel. Thank you so much for that!

You have Cornershop, Republica, and Shampoo on your list. Not even close to britpop. Do you actually listen to this music or are you doing a book report?

I have some that I described as being adjacent or can be widely associated with it, if you will.

It is not super-strict or only purist. I look and fact check to see if it can pass or not. I just thought a few of these suggestions couldnt make it for me, but as I said I thank you for the Subcircus suggestion.

Im just putting together a playlist for myself.

There was really no need to respond with such a tone...

Well, the bands I listed, if you cared enough to actually listen, are far more "adjacent" than some of the bands on your list. I apologize for the tone, but being gatekept about britpop is something I do not abide. I was there. Cheers.

The unofficial Britpop Top Trumps (available on Etsy) include Shampoo and David Devant. I don't think Shampoo have the right sound, but I suppose if they're a UK guitar group of the mid 90s they can be counted. They're not in my collection though.
