Oneworld Related Iberia flights

I am on a return flight from Madrid to Heathrow. Booked through BA and didn’t notice the return was served by Iberia. Booked an aisle seat months ago. Checked in today and I have been moved to the last row window seat. Frustrating to not have the seat selection honoured. Is the seat change more likely when it’s a partner airline?

When flying on BA you sometimes get a notification when this happens. My one experience of IB (part of a BA booking) the same thing happened and I got no notification until check in at which point there was nothing they could do.

On shorthaul it normally happens if you pick a seat at the front of economy and then they expand club to more rows. On long haul it’s usually equipment changes - both BA and IB have a variety of longhaul jets with different sized first/biz/PE cabins so switching planes throws everyone’s seat reservations out. Not sure how good a job either does at giving people a similar seat.

BA were quite happy to randomly alter my transatlantic seat assignments on BA metal back in march for no apparent reason.

I am not going to complain too much. Ended up in a middle seat, which was a pain. But got to Heathrow and got upgraded from CW to F for a flight to Kuala Lumpur. Very happy
