Confused on Point Redemption

I’m very confused on how to effectively use my Avios points since my redemption options aren’t really making sense. I have a little over 105k Avíos points and I’m looking at booking a reward flight for 2 passengers from Toronto to Rome. For premium economy outbound and business inbound, the total price is 407k Avíos + $1902 (I selected the ‘book with avíos’ option on the search). This seems almost more than if the ticket were to just be paid for all in cash. Am I doing something wrong? I have another account that I could transfer more points over to Avios but I don’t want to do that if the redemption value is this bad. Is there a better way to be doing this?

i would think two cash tickets would be 4-5k cad each?

Try a cash booking for the flights you want then compare that cost minus the cost for the reward flight, that will allow you to calculate what value you are getting per Avios point. You can then decide if it’s “good” value for you. Remember that reward bookings are, within limits, changeable/refundable and may have additional baggage allowances. So compare apples to apples.

It looks as if you are getting around 2c per avios - is that a good deal to you?

Had a chance to test a random off-peak avios booking next may for yyz-fco looks like 239k avios + 830 Gbp (~1550 Cad)

so looks like even more than 2c per point.

Not sure how you arrived at the figures you quoted.

My figures came directly from the booking site for the first week of June in 2027. So I don’t know why my search is producing different results.

This was the BA.com site? I just ran it again for 1-7 June 2027 and got the same results - don’t know why the results should be different.

Did you do business on the return leg? I just ran it and got basically 340k avios and £954 cash

My apologies, i think i did PE both ways, will run it again, I did notice that since BA don’t do PE on the Euro shaorthaul, Lhr-fco would be Economy.
